Antique vintage armoire wardrobe waterfall--closet cedar lined--5 drawers
A pre-owned armoire wardrobe with original casters- in the waterfall design from the art deco period. A metallic gold seal inside the top drawer reads Hooker Bassett Seal of Quality. Stenciled on the back is XO 30 ROBE. It is 36" wide x 60" tall x 20" deep. With inside closet measurements of 20" deep x 16-1/2" wide x 56" high. The drawers are dovetailed and four drawers are 15-1/4" x 14-3/4" x 8" deep. The fifth(top) drawer measures the same accept it is 6" deep. The mirrored top adds 6" to that side height measurement. Overall, the original casters add 2" to the height. They also make it easy to move. The knobs and pulls are of a white metal with marbleized pink thermoplastic decoration-celluloid or Catalin. Etc. It is a quality wardrobe in very good solid condition. There are very ... moresmall pieces of veneer missing mostly on the bottom. There is a tiny piece missing on the top edge of the third drawer down and a crease in the front of the second drawer from the top. The mirror has some small issues. This piece was purchased by my mother as a place to keep her many crochet projects and to store her completed afghans. It served her well over the years. All her things are being sold off. ESTATE VINTAGE/ANTIQUE CHIFFEROBE WATERFALL WOOD PATTERN This 74-year old piece was part of a bedroom set purchased by my Grandparents on June 29. 1939 as their wedding furniture. See photos for receipt. It was purchased from Mintz& Mintz Furniture in New Orleans who closed their doors in January 1990. This wonderful piece has two wardrobes with hanging bars. One on either side, four deep drawers with dovetail, and a hat box with a mirror in the center. The entire piece is covered in various exotic veneers with fine attention to design and detail. Decorative trims and moldings accent the edges adding to the unique quality of this piece and helping it to stand out amongst its peers as a prize example of this formerly popular style of furnishing. The Chifferobe has been stripped of its finish down to the original wood and the door/drawer ... morehardware is missing. There is some peeling of the wood on the back of the piece. However I was unable to get a photo as the piece is in a storage unit. The peeling is unnoticeable as it is on the backside. Waterfall Chifferobes are hard to find- use this piece in your living room. Library, dining room, sitting room or bedroom. The armoire has no damage to the finish or the closet itself. The handle to open the armoire appears to be brass. Closet is 75.5" tall. 18" deep at widest point, 44.5" long. It measures 69" high by 39" wide with a depth of 18" Its features are 4 drawers, a Hatbox compartment and a full length area for hanging garments. I was excited to find this piece and fell in love with the scroll work on the top edge and on the door. On the inside it is beautiful walnut with a mirror mounted on the door( no cracks) with brass clasp to hold it into place. The door pull is in a tear drop and that just makes the whole piece work. The wardrobe is wood and wood laminate backing with two glass windows inside. Dimensions: 20"L x 36"W x 69 1/2" H. The condition of the wardrobe is good. It is functional and ready to use now. This is an early 1900's antique"chifferobe" or"chifforobe" or"chiffarobe" I.e. wardrobe with 5 drawers and a small mirrored door on one side, and a full size wardrobe door on the other side. Behind the full size door is a place for hanging garments with an iron hanging rod. A couple of the drawers need some work but everything else functions normally. Beautiful wood grain with wear and tear that would be expected for age of furniture. Has been in continual use for 75 to 95 years! The inside of the chifferobe is somewhat more rustic than the exterior. One drawer bottom is quite interesting(see photo# 6)I don't know if this wooden crating material was a replacement or if it originally came that way. Either way. Smaller'hatbox' compartment has original beveled mirror in the door. Larger door on wardrobe side locks and also has the original beveled mirror. I had to reset the mirror as it had wiggled down and once inside found the label from the glass company in Tennessee dated August 1907(didn't think of it at the time. But I should have taken a photo of the tag) Inside this long side, is the original metal rod for your hanging clothes. It is original, sturdy, and strong. This chifferobe stands 64 inches tall outside. This wardrobe was in some disrepair. My husband restored it using new wood for the long door and the drawer bottoms only. The facia is all original. There is normal aging and stress marks. There was some square nails in the construction which somewhat ages it. The pulls are new as the original wood pulls were not all there. This antique Chifferobe is functioning the way it did when it was brand new with all the character of years of use. Built between 1915 and 1930(having metal drawer hardware rather than wooden knobs) It was in really rough condition so we rescued it. While refinishing the cabinet and drawers. Antique Edwardian Wardrobe / Media Cabinet / Armoire - Vintage Furniture
An ornately carved Edwardian oak knockdown cupboard measures 6' tall. 4' wide and 21" deep- perfect for a 42" TV. The shelf in the upper corner will hold today's cable box or game console. The doors latch to close, and have a key to lock, or will stay open easily. The hardware is ornate and functional. The carving and hardware have middle eastern inspiration. We would estimate pre-1920s(early Downton Abbey days) though we don't know the lineage. This sturdy piece is amazingly light and as a knockdown has latches to take it apart in 4 pieces for easy transport. The black shelf was added to accommodate a good watching height from the sofa. It is not attached. We will deliver in central Ohio.
