Pair of Heavy Estate Ornate Brass Antique Fireplace Andirons Chenets
Up for auction is a beautiful pair of antique brass andirons. I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. This piece does not effect the way you use these andirons. Nor their ability to stand. As you can see in the pictures it is not really something one would notice unless you're looking for it. They are a beautiful addition to any fireplace. However, due to the missing piece, I am selling these andirons at a very inexpensive price. I will be honest. I do not know much about these andirons, except to know that they come from the estate of the great-great grandfather of a friend of the family. Hopefully they are not worth hundred of dollars and I am practically giving them away LOL. In which case you will have won the jackpot! Very nice pair of old brass ball andirons. Solid and heavy. The one arm or extension has been repaired with a sleeve of sorts and wiring around the arm. It is shown in photo 2. Nice repair job and very usable. I started to polish the finials(one on right has been partially polished) Would b gorgeous polished. Measure almost 18" high and the extensions are 14" The balls measure 11" around the ball. So they are on the larger size. The only identification I could find is what looks like 100K or R on the bottom of one of the arms. These came from an estate in Baltimore. They have probably been stored in the attic more than they were displayed. They have never seen a real log! Measures about 17 inches tall and with the arms( I forget what they're called) are about 16.5 inches deep. Marked L and R and the fronts are stamped 1351 I think and the arms are stamped 1129 again. Previously owned but shows no signs of ever having burning logs atop them. this set of 2 Classic styled FirePlace ANDIRONS. Measures 18 1/2" height x 13" overall length x 7 1/2" width(foot to foot) The brass finial is actually 4 pieces as shown in photo#6. And is not a solid piece(hollowed out inside) The cast iron body section is hollowed out as well. The body attaches to the 1/8" cast iron legs which attach to the 5/8" x 1/2" wrought iron shank. We are offering a brass fireplace fender that we found at an estate sale. It measures approximately 42” w x 7 ½” h x 14” d. We are selling in‘as found condition’ I wiped it off but it has not been polished. It definitely has a patina and a lot of spots where the shine is gone. The only issue to note is that on one side. The bottom sits off the ground a little bit so it’s not completely level. The distance off the ground at the back corner is ½” so it’s not off by a lot. Item Description: Listed is this pair of antique Neoclassical Roman style figural andirons designed by the famed architect Robert Adam circa 1770. In the form of Vestal Virgins who protected the sacred fire of the Goddess Vesta, Goddess of Hearth and the Flame, symbol of endurance of the Roman Empire. This design is identical to a pair in the drawing room mantel at Ballinglough Castle. Westmeath Ireland. Known as the greatest British Architect of the late 18 th Century. Robert Adam’s father was an architect, which Robert followed into the family business. He spent five years on tour in France and Italy in the 1750’s. This is a very rare pair of large antique victorian copper and brass fireplace andirons. made in mid to late 1800's they are made from extremely thick copper and brass and are extremely heavy. in a victorian style with exquisite detailing throughout. the base if footed with large routed ornate feet and the center has a heavily embossed female face and a fleur-de-lis underneath. it is very thick with bubble and floral trim. the base meets the large copper globe with a ribbed brass section. the globe shaped body is made from very thick copper and also is very ornate with demonic faces connected with hung fruit. Here is a beautiful set of antique brass. Very detailed and ornate fireplace andirons with cast iron backs marked BENNETT. Claw feet, acanthus leaves around the top, a pattern similar to fleur de lis up the front and side of the top. Very, very detailed; there isn't a part that doesn't have some kind of design on it. The feet alone are double knuckled, detailed and measure 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" to give you an idea of size. Some of the fanciest ones I've seen. They are in excellent condition. Each one measures 23" tall. 18" deep, and 10" across the front. These are quite heavy.

This is an absolutely stunning pair of large antique ornate solid brass Victorian fireplace andirons. They are made from heavy brass and exquisite ornate detailing throughout. Footed with very detailed. Three dimensional claw feet and heavily embossed lion heads in between with beautiful scrolls completing the composition. The shaft is also very detailed and topped with a large multi-level brass finial. The back wood rests are made from solid cast iron. And have a brass plating on the top with a flame finial. They are in great shape and very high end. The style is very British and their origin may be England. Or possibly America. They are the perfect items to compliment a Ralph Lauren style decor! A massive and fine pair of ANTIQUE brass fireplace andirons. Blacksmith-forged wood supports are original. The log stops. Feet, and secondary supports are all brass, just discolored from use. The only parts that are not brass are the horizontal log supports. This is an early pair. I have added a photo of the underside so that you can see that the tops are connected by a rod through the log stop and base. You will note that the rod bottom is peened or flattened with a hammer. This is a true indicator of age. Later 19th century ... moreandirons will have a rod that extends through the base with threads on the end. Secured by a nut. An exceptional pair. Unmarked, as best I can tell, and certainly worthy of further research. This pair is massive. And extremely heavy. Each stands 16 3/4" tall and 21" deep. The feet are 10 1/2" wide. Sold just as-found. Uncleaned and unpolished, with original warm patina. The smooth surface is as good as I have seen. This set displays beautifully. With expected wear, surface scratches, and minor dings, but no repairs. One has a short split on the BACKSIDE, as seen in bottom photo, but this is not visible from the front. The other andiron is missing it's secondary brass foot. I am not an expert on antique brass, so please view photos for exact condition. These are easily disassembled. this is an absolutely stunning pair of rare antique ornate victorian brass fireplace andirons. they have an obscure design with a dual andiron on each piece. they have a great 3 dimensional flame finial which is very detailed. The back/ wood rests are made from cast iron. With a brass plate over the top, and this is where the second is located. the brass has a great patina from age. one measures 22 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 17 inches back to front. there is slight ware to one of the back finials but facing toward the back it is hard to see. and some blacking on the back of the backs as well but will buff or clean up. great rare set.
