These REALLY look like brass. But a magnet sticks to everything, so I am assuming it is cast iron. They are at least from the 70's, because they were in my Mothers house for at least that long. They are very heavy, and solid. Of course, there is some slight surface rust and signs of age, but no damage or abuse to call. I think they will clean up beautifully! The poker is a little bent, but nothing that cannot be straightened if it bothered you. The stand's handle unscrews, from the base, so I will separate it for shipping. That should just about do it! this is an estate find of a vintage set of old andirons. these measure 19" tall and 10" wide. the base that holds the wood is 19" in length and 4 1/4" tall. they have a beautiful medieval gothic design with hammered detailing and a bronze hue. there is a"J" on the back of each andiron(see pic) not sure of the manufacturer or year these were made. they look like 1930's or 1940's. i am new to selling on ebay which means i don't have much feedback yet. please let me know how i can help you feel more comfortable if this concerns you. thank you so much and happy bidding!

This is a historic and authentic. Original, and very unusual vintage, turn-of-the-century natural gas fired stand-alone cast iron fireplace/mantle piece from the New England area. Not too many of these around. The unit measures about 36" wide X 7" deep X about 48" in height. The inner hearth area measures approximately 20" wide X 20 1/2" high. There is a cast iron center boiler main section behind the decorative cast iron(pictured as main section) which forms the majority of the mantle and fireplace piece and which has. At it's base, a decorative, functional, and exposed gas log(shown in silver) This boiler center section is itself a very. Very heavy cast iron structure. estimate is 150-200 lbs) There are two cast sides which bolt on, the top crown unit, and then the flat cast iron top piece. Go back in time to the 1800's and you will find this wonderful decorative cast iron Fireplace Screen taken from an old brownstone house in Brooklyn N.Y. It was too beautiful to leave behind. Very charming design of a female wood nymph in her garden. The frame is beautifully etched to compliment the center design. It has lived now as an architectural adornment in my garden and has developed a beautiful patina which I hesitate to clean. A massive and fine pair of ANTIQUE brass fireplace andirons. Blacksmith-forged wood supports are original. The log stops. Feet, and secondary supports are all brass, just discolored from use. The only parts that are not brass are the horizontal log supports. This is an early pair. I have added a photo of the underside so that you can see that the tops are connected by a rod through the log stop and base. You will note that the rod bottom is peened or flattened with a hammer. This is a true indicator of age. Later 19th century ... moreandirons will have a rod that extends through the base with threads on the end. Secured by a nut. An exceptional pair. Unmarked, as best I can tell, and certainly worthy of further research. This pair is massive. And extremely heavy. Each stands 16 3/4" tall and 21" deep. The feet are 10 1/2" wide. Sold just as-found. Uncleaned and unpolished, with original warm patina. The smooth surface is as good as I have seen. This set displays beautifully. With expected wear, surface scratches, and minor dings, but no repairs. One has a short split on the BACKSIDE, as seen in bottom photo, but this is not visible from the front. The other andiron is missing it's secondary brass foot. I am not an expert on antique brass, so please view photos for exact condition. These are easily disassembled.
