These are a work of art ... moreas well as fireplace andirons. They are circa 1820 to 1830 and have much artistic detail. Each andiron is topped with a flame finial in brass. The base of each andiron has much detail including figural bust. Floral, scroll, classical architectural swag. The rear legs are cast iron. Each with a Pine Cone Finial. The andirons have a Paw Foot. Each andiron measures 19" tall x 9 1/2" wide x 19" deep. One cast iron leg where attached to the brass column base has had some work at some point in time possibly creating a minor crack in the seam and the rear adjusting bolt on each leg has been replaced with older bolts. There is a minor ding in the large ball of each column but otherwise in very good condition and stunningly beautiful. These are in as found condition. Not cleaned, with great patina. Pair of Heavy Estate Ornate Brass Antique Fireplace Andirons Chenets
Up for auction is a beautiful pair of antique brass andirons. I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. This piece does not effect the way you use these andirons. Nor their ability to stand. As you can see in the pictures it is not really something one would notice unless you're looking for it. They are a beautiful addition to any fireplace. However, due to the missing piece, I am selling these andirons at a very inexpensive price. I will be honest. I do not know much about these andirons, except to know that they come from the estate of the great-great grandfather of a friend of the family. Ornate Antique Brass Andirons-Chenet-Lions Heads, Swags, Flame Top-17 lbs. ea.
Description Super fabulous pair of antique brass andirons-chenets with ornate designs of swags with lions heads on the bottom of the large end and flame top finials. Each measures 20" wide and 17-1/2" tall and extend back 6" They are heavy. Each weighs 17 pounds. I have shown them with a can of coke so you can see how large and impressive they are. Details are shown on the top under the flame and on the sides. The andirons have recently been polished but still retain a deep, rich patina. There is a hook on the back of the bar I have shown in the last picture- there may have been a bar as part of the set at one time. The construction of these andirons show they were made in the late 1800's or early 1900's. These are trully a magnificant set- with handcrafted workmanship that is no longer found today. Very nice pair of old brass ball andirons. Solid and heavy. The one arm or extension has been repaired with a sleeve of sorts and wiring around the arm. It is shown in photo 2. Nice repair job and very usable. I started to polish the finials(one on right has been partially polished) Would b gorgeous polished. Measure almost 18" high and the extensions are 14" The balls measure 11" around the ball. So they are on the larger size. The only identification I could find is what looks like 100K or R on the bottom of one of the arms. These came from an estate in Baltimore. Wonderful cast metal andirons. With pierced brass rosette tops. The scrolling brass tops feature an urn with flowers and thistle detail. They are raised, and sit on a slender gooseneck stem which emerges from a wonderfully textured, hand wrought leg. The base has an light arch and pad foot. Each is marked on the reverse with the number 238. They are attributed to a Sheffield. NY maker, C. 1900. The andirons stand 22" in height, and have a length of 18" The pierced ornament at the top has a diameter of 6" We have recently acquired the pair form a local New England estate, and they are in good condition. We have not cleaned them, so as to preserve the lovely patina that has started to develop on the top. The rear supports are clearly charred, as can be expected. Here is a beautiful set of antique brass. Very detailed and ornate fireplace andirons with cast iron backs marked BENNETT. Claw feet, acanthus leaves around the top, a pattern similar to fleur de lis up the front and side of the top. Very, very detailed; there isn't a part that doesn't have some kind of design on it. The feet alone are double knuckled, detailed and measure 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" to give you an idea of size. Some of the fanciest ones I've seen. They are in excellent condition. Each one measures 23" tall. 18" deep, and 10" across the front. These are quite heavy.

This is an absolutely stunning pair of large antique ornate solid brass Victorian fireplace andirons. They are made from heavy brass and exquisite ornate detailing throughout. Footed with very detailed. Three dimensional claw feet and heavily embossed lion heads in between with beautiful scrolls completing the composition. The shaft is also very detailed and topped with a large multi-level brass finial. The back wood rests are made from solid cast iron. And have a brass plating on the top with a flame finial. A massive and fine pair of ANTIQUE brass fireplace andirons. Blacksmith-forged wood supports are original. The log stops. Feet, and secondary supports are all brass, just discolored from use. The only parts that are not brass are the horizontal log supports. This is an early pair. I have added a photo of the underside so that you can see that the tops are connected by a rod through the log stop and base. You will note that the rod bottom is peened or flattened with a hammer. This is a true indicator of age. Later 19th century ... moreandirons will have a rod that extends through the base with threads on the end. Secured by a nut. An exceptional pair. Unmarked, as best I can tell, and certainly worthy of further research. This pair is massive. And extremely heavy. Each stands 16 3/4" tall and 21" deep. The feet are 10 1/2" wide. Sold just as-found. Uncleaned and unpolished, with original warm patina. The smooth surface is as good as I have seen. This set displays beautifully. With expected wear, surface scratches, and minor dings, but no repairs. One has a short split on the BACKSIDE, as seen in bottom photo, but this is not visible from the front. The other andiron is missing it's secondary brass foot. I am not an expert on antique brass, so please view photos for exact condition. These are easily disassembled. They appear to have been polished somewhat recently. They are a two piece casting with the support brackets being sold brass. These wonderful andirons have their orignal patina. They are a little dirty and could use a good cleaning if desired. Duck Andirons Matched Set Solid Brass Information/condition This is the second and last set I am selling for my late uncle. He was to put it mildly an avid duck hunter. He had two amazing sets of Andirons that he rotated. each would go 6 months or so in the fireplace. I really don't know much about these. But like the other set which was slightly different(heads didn't swivel) they are amazing and I am sure they were quite expensive. Antique Federal Period Brass Andirons, C. 1810, Chippendale Style, Full Seams
This is a pair of late 18th to early 19th C. Chippendale style andirons in brass with iron returns. Appropriate to their age. They are have full-seams, hand peened rivets, and a very old patina. They are 15.5"H, 8.25"W, and 16.75"D. There is a repair near the base of one upright, another repair at the base of the other, and some solder is visible. There is slight corrosion to the very top of one andiron, and there are a few small gaps in the seams of the andirons' sections. However, they are sturdy and appropriate for use.
