Solid Brass Neptune NR Oil Burning Ships Lantern
This Solid Brass Ships Lantern was purchased by us from LL Bean in the early 1980's and is of the highest quality construction. The solid brass has great weld joints and copper rivet construction. The entire inner glass chimney portion is easily removed by two brass handles for fueling and cleaning. The lantern has been used several times and has some black smoke on the glass chimney. Still has 6" to 7" of cotton wick left in fuel pot. Other wise it is in perfect condition and could be passed on for generations. This could be polished to a high shine but I have preferred the acquired patina. The lantern measures approx. 15" X 8" and weighs approx. 6 lbs. Brass oil lantern manufactured in the early 1900's for use in finer staterooms. It is an absolutely beautiful antique in great condition. There are two small cracks(you can see them in the last two pictures) around the base of the lantern. Most likely caused by age. Also I had a hard time screwing together the lantern and the piece that connects to the wall. I think it could be easily replaced with another bolt. And it might even go together if it is forced. I was trying to be careful when I was putting it together. See the third to last picture to know the piece I am talking about. This lamp was manufactured by C. Gray Ship Chandlers Established 1882 Arbroyath. Scotland. You can ... moresee that information on the brass nameplate(see picture above) This lamp used to belong to my aunt’s great uncle and he bought it many many years ago in San Francisco. The lamp is very heavy! The burners are original with a double wick. The knobs are stamped"Duplex Made in England" It appears to be original and in working condition. The wick knobs turn. I have not attempted to put fuel in the lamp or light it. Because I do not know how and I do not want to mess it up! The lamps have not been polished because I wanted to keep it in its current condition and I liked the way they look! The clear glass chimney is in perfect condition. As you can see in the picture the green shade does not fit around the holder(it fits there just fine. But it does not go to the edge of the metal rim) so I do not know if it is just made that way or this is not the original shade. Either way it looks beautiful. I just want to make sure you can see that in the picture and you are given the best description possible! It is approximately 8" in diameter and weighs 19 3/4 pounds. It obviously has been exposed to sea air and has a wonderful patina and wear. It has been electrified with new wiring that can be adapted to any use the new owner wishes. The glass has a few nicks that are old ones and do not detract from the beauty of the piece. Made in England for the colony of Newfoundland and used I believe on the coastal boats that delivered goods and services around the coast of Newfoundland before the present roads were built. As you can see from the pictures this was a working light used to light the compass on the sailing boats. The brass is very worn. The handle which is brass with an insert are skewed and have been like this since I acquired them and I would guess its from heavy usage in all kinds of weather The lantern is all original with original doors and clasps and glass. It also has the original oil burner with ceramic ... morewick holder. The wick turner is very stiff and probably needs oil. The burner is signed and trademarked Barton's(England) 9 3/4” from base to top of handle the base is not square but rather a circle with a flat front measuring approx 2 7/8 from front to back and 3 2/8 from side to side. This beautiful solid brass wall lantern was manufactured by“Norwell Mfg. Co. INC” and is listed as an electric fixture by the“Underwriters Laboratories, Inc” This information is included on a yellow sticker still attached to the back side of the lantern. I am not sure when this lantern was manufactured. It has a nautical theme…there is a ship’s steering wheel on the top front. With a brass nameplate inscribe with the name“Flying Eagle” I have 4 more of these lanterns, which I haven’t cleaned up yet, that are identical to this one, except for the name. Each lantern has a different name. I think that maybe these lanterns decorated a restaurant or perhaps a yacht or nautical vessel at one time. Overall this is 10 1/2" and the glass globe. Case and brass lamp do not show any damage. It is a wall mount and the round wall mount area is 6" across the center. The elder estate seller(100 miles north of NYC) said his Uncle lived in Brooklyn NY and owned a tug boat decades ago and this is from the old tug boat. It is very heavy weighing 6 pounds without packageing and box. It was very hard to read but the globe has letters and numbers that look like"9S4971-L" but not positive of the numbers as they are in lightly raised glass. The brasss cage or basket area has no breaks and it reads numbers that look like"24CGH" or something like that is raised brass. The case also reads"R&S CO. which stands for the Russell& Stoll co) There is no other writing anywhere on this 3 pc set so I have no idea how old ... morethis actually is but it is very industrial. Pair Large Solid Brass Marine Nautical Signal Lights Boat Lanterns Lamp
These are a great pair of Marine Nautical Lights. They are solid brass with heavy ribbed glass shades. They have been rewired and are in working condition. One of the lights has its original red insert so it can be used as a signal light. The 1st picture shows the lights with the red insert in one and a green light bulb in the second one if you wanted to use these that way. Or you can take out the red insert and have both lights clear as in the 2nd picture. Or put in any color bulb you choose. The lights are very heavy. The one with the insert is about 15 lbs and the other 13.5 lbs. These lanterns have handles that you can use to hang them or just for carrying. One of the lanterns has a little more copper tone to it then the other one and has 3 little feet to attach to a deck. The tops can be removed or slid to the side with the screws on ... morethe top to replace the lightbulbs. The globes are marked with a makers name. One of the shades has 2 small internal fissures at the bottom of the globe but they don't go all the way through the glass. Solid Brass Anchor Lantern. The classic anchor lamp used on sailing ships for hundreds of years. Our anchor lamp is hand machined in pure heavy-gauge brass. The Fresnel style lens is made to magnify the oil lamp light to be visible for 20 nautical miles. The anchor lamp is named for it's use. A 360o white light is required to be displayed at the highest point. the tallest mast) on all vessels at anchor or under way at night. Bulpitt& Sons Solid Brass Nautical Maritime Ship Oil Lantern all original BULPITT& SONS BIRMINGHAM Is embossed on the chimney of the lantern. But barely legible due to a light stamp. The date is also stamped on the chimney but cannot be read. Fully functional. Heavy gauge brass with copper rivets lantern complete with all its original parts. Used aboard a ship as a bulkhead, cabin, wardroom lamp/ lantern. Bulpitt and Sons LTD is imprinted on both the chimney and Bulpitt on the oil tank. Manufactured by famed English maker. Bulpitt and Sons, Birmingham, England. This is an extraordinary and rare item in excellent condition. The lantern measures 16" at the tallest chimney point and 20" with the wooden handle extended. 8" wide at the back, 5" deep. Weighs amost 11 lbs. The back is flat and boasts a huge brass clip ... morewith copper rivets for sturdy mounting. The front is three-sided with glass windows which are all intact, with no cracks or chips. The original brass burner is also in excellent condition with a wick, not sure it is the original. The stamp on the burner clasp reads Bulpitt. A brass reflector wall is behind the burner. The burner looks as though never used and slides out easily through the glass door on the right. There is also a slide on the side of the door that moves to expose an opening without having to open the door. The chimney top opens and the entire top is hinged to flip back allowing access to the chimney. It even still has the solid brass knob on the front lower corner. There are a few small dents consistent with its age. But it does not detract from the overall beauty of this gorgeous piece of British seafaring history. This would make a great piece to add to any maritime nautical collection.

This auction is for one very heavy Solid Brass Ship Light With A Glass Dome. It is an explosive proof light but it does not currently have any rubber seals in it. It is 8 1/2" tall. 6 3/4" deep and 4 1/2" wide. It weighs over 5 lbs. It has a receptacle that is designed to accept a twist-lock type bulb. I suppose it could be retrofitted for a different type of bulb. It has a brass cage that unscrews and a glass dome. The only markings on it is 60 W. It has part of a wire protruding from one side. Vintage The Portable Light Co. New York Nautical spotlight base solid brass?
Here's a vintage base/stand for a nautical search/spotlight made by The Portable Light Co. New York. It seems to be made almost entirely of chrome plated brass or copper. Though confusingly there are some signs of rust in certain areas and it is very faintly magnetic. My best guess is that a thin layer of iron was put over the copper or brass base before the chrome was applied to act as a bonding agent. Everything still rotates well and would be perfect for use if put with a fitting spotlight. There is some paint staining and copper oxidization present. Mostly on the conical base piece. The chrome plating on that area is also quite dull and faded. The base is also marked"STYLE/1-MILE-RAY" NO RESERVE. Please make sure you contact me if you have any questions.
