U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. Constructed of brass, glass, and brass plating over- judging from the tarnish- probably copper? This is most likely an older decorative reproduction. It's rendition is very faithful. Measuring 22" tall(not including handle) width of about 11" The piece is painted but as far as I can tell the most or possibly the entirety of the piece is made of copper. The lantern is a forward facing type with mounting rings on each side, an access door on the back an a top hatch that looks down into from the chimney above. Inside the back hatch, the burner assembly is on a track and is removable. It appears to be an oil/kerosene burner with a large reflector. The glass globe appears to be intact. There are three attached metal labels or tags on the front. I will try to decipher them for you, due to age and paint there are partially legible. Hi. This measures 15"in. TALL× 10"in. WIDE. This is made out of either bronze or copper. It has a placard on the bottom with a inscription reading: Presented to C.O.R. Y.C. by JACK& RUTH CARSTARPHEN. I don't know who they are, or what that stands for, I don't know much about this, it was purchased at a flea market by my mother 10-15yrs ago. Stunning antique ship lanterns from the beginning of the Interlochen Music Camp/Arts Academy. These lanterns were hung from the trees around the"Bowl" the original performance center at the Music Camp in Interlochen, MI, which was established by Joseph E. Maddy in 1928. They hung in the audience space around the Bowl. And lit the walkway which adjoined the area, and were a part of Interlochen history from at least 1929(archival photos) to the 1980's. This is a great opportunity to own a piece of Interlochen history. These lanterns each measure 21" Tall and 12" Wide. The additional height of the hangers brings the total height to 27" high. Which has a light purple patina, which could have been originally clear glass that has changed color during the aging of the glass. The glass is in excellent vintage condition, with no cracks. The lamps were originally oil or kerosene lanterns. And later were converted to electric. One has the refurbished electric components at the top and the other at the bottom. The bottom of the lanterns have a sliding air vent mechanism. To adjust the air to the burning requirements of the lantern when fuel-fired. One of these slides freely, the other has dents which prohibit free movement. The lanterns do have dents, but still are in good condition for their age. Each of the lanterns have a door which opens on the rear of the lantern, to maintenance the light. The hangers are quite Arts& Crafts in design. This interesting old lamp is most likely from the early part of the 20th Century. Perhaps before. It looks as though this piece has all its necessary components including a key, at one the end of the original chain, in order to control light(it moves the wick up and down) Even the wick looks like it would most likely work with a bit of fuel. There is no key available for the front hole(not sure what that one does, see last photo) Definitely a charming piece for the just the right decor.
