An antique Powell& Hanmer HOROSCOPE bicycle oil lamp from the late Victorian era. Everything is firm and works as intended and there are no dents. The two red side lenses and clear front bi-convex lens have no cracks or chips. As you can see the chimney roof is hinged in order to facilitate cleaning and one of the side windows slides up for lighting. The oil reservoir slides out for filling and is sound. There is some cracking on one side of the wick dome(see photo) But this does not affect function. Understandably there has been black paint loss over the years but personally I like the way it is and would't repaint. This little lamp measures just under 5 inches in height.

There is a dent on the bottom edge. This has made it out of round& where the insert only lines up in one position. One of the locking wires has come disconnected but is still present& included. Clear perko Fresnel lens in great condition with no cracks. This lens is a full cylinder. This lantern is just over 6" tall and is 4.25" across the b ottom. I have made no attempts to polish or repair this lamp. This is the condition i found it in. This piece will make a great little project for someone who likes to tinker with things. Antique Clear Pressed Glass/Brass Whale Oil Lamp Only With Snuffers and Wick
This is. I believe, a lamp intended to be used to burn whale oil. The wick is unburned, so I don't think it was ever put to use. The screw on cap, snuffers, and two wick holders are brass, with a knurled top edge on the cap to enhance one's grip when refilling the glass vessel. The cap and two wick holders are 2" high. The glass vessel is 3" high with a protruding 1" long ground glass stub. The device in is excellent condition with no chips or dings. There are some light scratches on the glass. There is an obvious lack of whaling here in Colorado. So where did this come from? Well, it's part of my parents estate. In the mid-1960's(as soon as I went off to college) they bought a very old, actually centuries old farm on Grove Street in Millville, Mass. The place was a fixer-upper that had been in the same family ... morefor at least a hundred years. The lamp is being offered as found for parts or refurbish or keep as is. The lamp stands 8.7/8" tall as is. The soot catcher or chimney cap is missing. The copper housing shows a lot of aged patina. This auction is for a very rare Miller brass binnacle hand lamp. The bottom removes with an oil lamp base with a simplex wick holder. It is signed E Miller Company made in USA and has a brand new wick. The oil lamp locks into the base. It has vent holes at the bottom and the top. It has a wood carrying handle and an Eisinglass/ isinglass front that is still intact. The lamp measures 8 ¼ inches with the handle up and 7 inches with the handle down and measures 2 ¾ inches in diameter. A ships binnacle lamp has no steel anywhere in it. It is made of all brass so that it would not interfere with the ships compass. This is a very rare piece, don't miss this opportunity to add this to your collection. Lamps designed for railroad or maritime use. Heavy and rugged, have three spring clips to hold in fonts, have a wick tube to prevent fuel sloshing. Fancy cast brass back brackets, shiny font holders, tin fonts with#2 size collars. No markings I could see, could be Pullman, Dressel, Adams Westlake, or Miller, ca. 1880s. Brackets are similar. But not exact, one has(drain? holes underneath, one has arms more swept, and one is part copper/pink brass. They measures 7 1/2" from wall to font rib. And 6 1/4" from bottom to top of the collar. Condition is good. No major damage, some light denting throughout with one font holder having some stress cracks, both fonts will hold ... moreoil, the burners are not usable. This is previously owned and has been used and is showing its age. The blue glass has cracked and the blue paint is peeling away. I do not know if this piece of glass can be repaired or replaced. There are a few small dents and scratches in the copper. The copper has age appropriate patina. It needs to be cleaned from soot and dirt. Vintage, oil burning bow light. nautical design. measures 8 1/4 inches high by 4 3/4 wide. handle extends another 5 3/8 high. lamp is marked with a badge that states: HELVIC'S pattern approved by inspector of the port of N.Y. the actual lamp is in excellent condition and still has a long wick. the Fresnel lenses have some small chips. But are not at all cracked. it also appears to have some repairs done with solder.
