U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. RARE Navy World War II Liberty Ship Brass Nautical Marine Ships Mast Light HUGE!
You are bidding on one RARE WW2 Mast light from the Liberty Ship SB Buckner. This item is guaranteed as advertised and to be working. Its heavy 40# and made of SOLID BRASS. Own a piece of US Naval History! General Simon B. Buckner(T-AP-123) 1945-1997. Previously USS Admiral E. W. Eberle(AP-123) and U.S. Army Transport General Simon B. Buckner USS Admiral E. W. Eberle. A 9,676-ton(light displacement) Admiral W. S. Benson-class transport built by the Maritime Commission to its P2-SE2-R1 design. Was commissioned in January 1945 with a largely Coast Guard crew. She departed San Francisco in March with troops and supplies for the Southwest Pacific, then moved to the Philippines where she embarked over 2,000 formerly interned civilians for repatriation to the United States. After arriving at San Pedro, California, in early May Admiral E. W. Eberle ... morewent to the Atlantic. Where in June and early July she made a crossing carrying troops from Naples, Italy to Trinidad and another returning servicemen to the United States from Le Havre, France. In July and August the transport carried troops from Marseilles, France to the Philippines. After upkeep at Seattle, she made three voyages from the West Coast to Japan and Korea between October 1945 and March 1946. Admiral E. W. Eberle was decommissioned in May 1946 and transferred via the Maritime Commission to the Army. The Army soon renamed the ship General Simon B. Buckner and operated her with a civilian crew as part of its water transportation service. She returned to the Navy in March 1950 when most of the larger Army ships became part of the newly-created Military Sea Transportation Service. Still civilian-manned and retaining her"General" name. The ship made numerous crossings of the Pacific in support of the. In February 1955 she departed San Francisco for New York. Vintage Perko 1164 Brass/Bronze Ship Nautical Light- 18" Tall. 7" in Diameter Great Condition for Age The globe is etched with Perko No. 1. On the top cover it is marked"PERKO 1164-74-T. On the bottom it is marked Perko 1164-8-8( Original finish when removed from ship; has not been stripped. Photos verify that the lighting mechanisms are still in place. Lamp could easily be converted to a table lamp or outside light. It appears that the reflector plate on the rear portion of light can be removed. Very heavy; weighs approx. 22 lbs. A great light for the nautical collector. This is one of the many nautical items from my late father-in-law's collection that he acquired from World War II ships that were being sunk for artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. Amazingly rare old antique ship lantern. Marked 1942 in 4 places. Has two removeable glass lenses one red, one blue, when you remove these you have a clear glass lens. GPLd 1942 markings. Would be a neat lanten for your den, man cave restaurant or club.
