Up for auction is a vintage boating warning light recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition. I am unable to test this to see if it is operational or not, but certainly could be made to work. This light has a tear drop shape and would be mounted in the bow to determine port or starboard sides. It is consistent with 1950-60's era boats. This light would be great for reuse or as a nautical decorative accessory. There is pitting and paint on the chrome surface, as seen in the photos. The lens appears to be plastic. It has a nice deco appearance. I cannot find any markings or numbers. This light measures approximately 3 7/8" x 6 1/4" x 3 14" in size. A nice maritime piece. This could shine if you cleaned it up but I love leaving the maritime antiques with the patina on them. The picture with the light is a flashlight used to light up the glass. This is a vintage bow light that is a bolt on unit and can be removed when not needed. It came in a box of fishing and hunting items. It's made in USA. I can't see a manufacturers name though. It has patent no. 2301714 on both sides. The internals look good. This wasn't stored with a battery in each side. So it's not all corroded or anything. The bulbs look clean and the parts look good, the inner housing have some light rust. The external parts show it's age. It could be cleaned up. But, I don't like to clean and shine old items, I would rather sell them as they come, as they look, and let the buyer decide. So, what it looks like is what it is. It is of cast bronze and the masthead light as shown is embossed on the top of the lamp marked US. 3 1/8 FOCAL HEIGHT LAMPS and M-5251-1. The lamp has three single holes for mounting on the base. Three heavy outer guards to protect the thick glass Fresnel lens and a bezel type removable lid. The original interior light fixture remains and is still functional or can be easily replaced. Retains a fine old weathered viridian green patina on the bronze surfaces. The date is etched in as 1977. The Fresnel lens survives in good order with just a few minor edge chips. DESCRIPTION FOR AUCTION: This is a very unusual find. It is an original automatic lamp changer that would go in an old brass buoy lamp light navigation marker or light house light. I have a brass marker lamp listed this week and this is a second mechanism. It has a wheel of sockets that holds 4 bulbs. As one burns out. The mechanism rotates and lights the next bulb. I can't find the manufacturer name on it. There are just some serial numbers. The mechanism measures about 5 inches across the base and about 6 inches to the top of a bulb. There are currently 3 bulbs in this one. It is a 110 volt mechanism. I attached it to a 12volt power supply. The lamps didn't light but the mechanism rotated when a bulb was removed. Here's a neat vintage item with red glass on one side and green on the other.no chips. I believe it is brass. see photos for a better condition insight. It is dented on back of lamp and missing one screw. it appears to be adjustable. I have not truly cleaned this item. The base is almost 4 1/2" in diameter and is stamped. I believe, SGJ. Measures 10" tall with top loop standing up straight and approximately 4.5 inches at it's widest point. Classic design. Heavy thick brass. Bottom unscrews where oil and wick can be placed. Glass Globe is a 1/4" thick glass. This lantern weighs a surprising 1 pound and 14.1 ounces(almost 2 pounds) Nothing thin and cheap. All heavy duty quality. We think it was made back in the 1950's.
