Marine - Nautical Lantern With 100 ft. Attached Water Proof Cord - Works Great
I was told this is a Marine Lantern that is waterproof. This lamp has some weight to it. About 16 pounds. I plugged it in during a heavy rain shower and it lit right up. Stayed lit for 12 minutes as the water pounded it until I unplugged it. I got wet enough. It works fine. Do not know exactly what it is for but you probably do. I found no name on it. Genuine. Early 1900’s ship’s lamp known variously as a“hurricane globe lantern, watermelon lamp, or onion lamp. It features a heavy glass globe indicative of its early manufacture. This lantern is complete with its original oil font and burner which fits into the bottom of the lamp with a positive half twist. The top of the lamp is fitted with a heat disbursing castellated chimney cap and the lamp is equipped with a stout wire bail handle for hanging. This diminutive little veteran of the sea measures 11 ½ inches tall and 10 inches in wide. Inclusive of the handle it measures approximately 13 ¼ inches tall. It is in good condition given its age and apparent actual use at sea. There is a small sent in the chimney cap and a stress crack in the globe which cannoy be felt when rubbing you fingers across it. Here we have a very large ship or boat lamp or lantern marked"Anchor" This estate found lantern is made from solid brass which has been lacquered. Although the lacquer is crazing from age. It still displays very nicely. The center cap in the top flips up and it also opens at the base of the top as well. There is an oil lamp inside that does have the wick. In the center there is a very thick ribbed glass lens that has no cracks. There is a brass anchor hook on the top and the bottom. No dents, nice vintage condition. Very large, the lamp itself measures an impressive 18 1/2" tall not including the anchor hooks at the top and bottom. Diameter is about 9 3/4" This sizable lamp displays nicely. Here is a brass oil lamp is marked but is written in German I think please see photos.the The lamp looks to be in very good condition. It may be off of a ship or train. It has a bracket to mount it to a bulkhead or a wall that is with it. Just mount the bracket to the bulkhead or wall and the lamp just slides into the bracket so it can removed to refuel the light. You can also just remove the burner and tank to refuel the lamp.The lamp is approximately 15" tall by 5 deep by 12 wide. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. The Roflar Navy Battle lantern was/is used on Navy and Coast Guard ships and boats. These lantern are made study for battle conditions. This lantern has been tested and works. Here is an absolutely stunning and very rare example of an early. Solid brass, candle powered ship's navigation lantern. Though one in this price range isn't for everyone, it is for the serious collector. Circa late 1800's to very early 1900's. This style of lantern was also often used as a Lighthouse Keepers Stairwell or Passageway Light. As it was made by the famous lighthouse Fresnel Makers- Barbier Benard& Turenne of Paris, it seems only fitting. The lantern has a plate on the front of it's lighthouse style body, that names this maker. It is made of highly polished solid brass. And is 7.5" wide, 16.5" w/o bales extended and 26" with bales extended. It is a fairly large lantern. This candle, black out lantern is extremely rare, and almost never found for sale. It is from the late 1800's and is complete with it's original heavy glass globe, which is in perfect condition, showing no cracks or chips. The lantern likewise shows no signs of rust or cracks. Here is a great and unique piece for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an auction where it was commingled with a lot of marine/nautical items from an individual's collection. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! I have never seen one of these before. The body is made of brass. The tall neck can be screwed off of the body by the fixed bolt head on the end of it. At the end of the neck is a pinhole where the fluid vapors could be let to allow the flame for lighting the lanterns. What looks like a key is where the flammable fluid would have been put in the body. Think that is true with the"pan" around the key to facilitate the pouring. There is a brass side ... morepiece with screws in it that does not go to the inside of the pot. So. Another way to hold it. or locking into a device that it was inserted into. The brass and wood handle has some good age to it. I suspect the brass at end of handle was resoldered back on to the pot at some time in the past. There are two patent dates on the piece. On the filler cap key is a date of April 19 1892. On the pot itself is a date of April 4. 1893. Appears the piece could be used as a lantern or torch. Per the patent date of March 1 1864. The burner has the name"Convex on the other side of the brass wick guide. Struck out when attempted to find something online for that patent date. Ring for hanging it is still on the top of the lantern. The lantern also has a brass spring clip affixed to the back of ... morethe lamp. Someone put felt on it. So as to not scratch the surface the lantern is attached to. The lantern has a thick rounded glass on it. The glass is not cracked. There is a chip in the glass where the clear globe meets the metal body on the top left side. The burner appears intact and has a wick in it. A ding in the bottom of the burner. The case of the lantern is made of metal. Probably repainted with the black paint on it some time after it was new many moons ago. No major rust or corrosion to the lantern body. The lantern is 8.75" tall. By 3.75" across, by 5.25" wide. I do not see a maker's mark on the body of the lantern or lens, just the burner body. I was told that it is extremely rare to see a Bakboord piece designed as an electric table lamp. The condition is excellent for its age. With the only noticable wear being on the wooden base. Looks to be c.Late-19thC vintage to me. Lantern is 20" tall not including the top swing handle. Buying as you see it as found in estate. The globe has a large hole on one side with crack lines going out from hole. The remaining thick glass looks stable as is however. Globe still displays well on good side. There are other ridge chips on glass. A couple of dings spots on shoulder of lamp. Top lid has dent on top. Vertical cage rod is pushed in where the hole in glass is. Opposite rod pushed in somewhat as well with some broken connectors to cage. Layer(or layers) of old black paint on surface. Old patina to lantern. Antique Ships Masthead Lantern off a fishing vessel from Ireland
You are bidding a turn of the century masthead ships lantern. The lantern is made by the Cera lighting company Glasgow. It is in good antique condition and the clear glass has a small pinch out of it shown in the pictures. The handle and oil/ wax drum is made of copper. The main body of the Lantern is made of a different metal and is painted black. The label is made of brass. This is a beautiful piece and measures 17.5 inches tall to the tip of the handle and 7 inches in diameter. It weighs over 10 lbs. The lantern has a tremendous history to it. Fishing the coastal waters of south east Ireland.
