Antique Brass Two Color Boat Lantern Found in upstate New York. I am told that this is a lantern from the barges that they used on the Erie Canal. The lantern has a flat back and a rounded glass shade in the front. The glass is divided in the middle by a brass shield that extends from the front of the lantern- one side is colored green, the other side red, I guess to signal whether you were coming or going. On the top is a nice decorated piece that has little cut out heart shapes and a ring handle. On the bottom, there is a flap that can fold out showing the inside burner. From an estate sale is an Antique Vtg Brass Wall Oil or Kerosene Lantern. It measures 13" long and the beveled glass windows measure 4" x 3" All windows are free of cracks or damage. There is some surface rust on the inside but no corrosion to the metal to cause holes or damage so it could be cleaned if needed. The very top of the lantern has been soldered(see photos) but it doesn't affect the workings of the lantern. Antique Sailing Ship's Cabin Oil Lantern on Gimble with Wick & Hurricane Globe
This is a small sailing ship cabin copper/brass oil lamp with glass hurricane globe mounted in a gimble for full motion on a rolling vessel. I have no idea of it's exact age but likely from the late 19th century. It's tarnished and I haven't attempted to clean it up. It measures approximately 7 1/2/ H by 3 1/2" W and would stand away from a ships bulkhead approximately 4 1/2" and weighs approximately 1 pound. It has the glass hurricane globe intact as well as a frabric wick so all you would need to do is fill it with keroscene(or whale oil? and light it up. Wonderful old lamp from the days of sail. Up for auction is an original George Carpenter& Co Solid Brass Nautical Lantern With Glass Working. This is an original early 1900's Nautical Lantern. Originally this lamp was probably carried on the deck of a ship as it has a handle for carrying. It was also probably an oil lamp converted to electric at a later date. The lamp works perfectly well with the socket. Has a nice warm glow that radiates from behind the glass. It is approximately 10 inches tall and about 4" inches wide. The brass still has its original aged patina and has not been cleaned. It may have also at one time had a bottom piece that held oil. The glass itself has a few chips in it and a crack but most assuredly isn't going to break in the near future as it's extremely thick. this lot contains a Vintage Brass PERKO Marine Nautical ship RED pole Lantern Early 1900s. it has been modified to electric a long time ago. It was wired for ship use as it has a ground wire as well? it has a very thick red glass with a few chips& cracks from use& age. nothing that compromises it's usage or condition. it weighs 11 pounds& is 10" x 6" the light itself has been tested& works. it has not been cleaned or polished by us, although it looks like someone took scouring pad or steel wool to some areas, none of which has caused any permanent or bad damage, but you can see these areas in pictures. the one crack we found is only on the inside of glass& can only be seen when held up to light& spun til found. Appears to have been designed to burn oil(see photos) History: In the early l960’s. I purchased this lantern from a marine salvage yard in San Francisco. I disassembled everything and had the metal parts dipped to remove decades of paint and crud. And then sprayed the metal parts with clear matte acrylic. The objective was to just clean it up; not to make it look new nor“restored” At that time we had a waterfront weekend place on Bethel Island. CA, in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta area. Our dining table was placed before a window which overlooked Piper Slough. Where we moored our boat, and Frank’s Tract(lake) This lantern was hung above the table and centered in ... morethe window. During the wiring to accommodate 110/120V“shore power” I installed a small pull-chain switch at the bottom of the lantern. Here’s how it worked: If the adults were gathered round the table sippin. Dippin. And grinnin, we might prefer the red“mood light” only. If the kids were playing checkers. They would pull the chain to activate the down-light. There is ample space for a Par38 halogen floodlight. The beacon is lighted by three other internal lamp sockets illuminating the Fresnel lens. Hanging chain and canopy(as shown) included. This listing is for a vintage Perkins PERKO Marine boat Kerosene Lamp. Finding one in better condition than this one will be a challenge. The lamp is made of Galvanized metal and has a Brass Top/Finial and the Kerosene lights hardware is made of Brass. The Dark Green and red lens are made of Glass and are chip and damage free. The design of this lamp is different than most others. The inside hardware is accessible from the bottom of the lamp only. It has ingenious spring loaded tabs of each side. If you want to pull out the hardware you simply squeeze the tabs and pull the hardware out. As you can see from the photo's the Brass hardware is in excellent condition and includes what is probably the original wick.I think this lamp has spent most of it's life indoors. The outside Galvanized Metal is also in excellent condition. Nothing ... moreis loose. All corners etc very tight construction. The top finial piece with hanging loop is made of Brass. I did not clean this. Left the original patina. I did however clean the Brass Perkins/ Perko identification tag because I could not read what it says. Navy Batle Lantern
The Roflar Navy Battle lantern was/is used on Navy and Coast Guard ships and boats. These lantern are made study for battle conditions. This lantern has been tested and works. Please look at the pictures. These lanterns take 1 standard 6 volt house hold battery which can be purchased at any home improvement or hardware store-battery goes on the right hand(USN) side. Item show standard wear and tear for a military used item. But it is in very good condition. The switch needs to be switch back and forth but will stay on. Offered for auction is a very rare marine/ ships lantern. Bow light or Dock lantern. Made by the Wm Porter's Sons Co. Probably in the mid-to-late 1800. Wm. Porter was a long-time naval/navy man. In 1823. At the age of 12, he signed on as a midshipman on his uncle's ship, the Franklin. 11 years later he was commissioned as a lieutenant. From 1838 to 1840 he served as lighthouse inspector on the east coast. Ultimately he reached the rank of Commodore in the US Navy and commanded the USS St, Mary's and the USS Essex In 1942 the destroyer William D. Porter was named in his honor. Originally an oil lamp. This antique ship lantern was given to Hospitality Homes. A Boston MA based charity that provides housing in host homes for families of patients who come to Boston for medical care. It was purchased by the donor about 50 years ago from an antique dealer in Needham, MA. I don't know much about it and really can't make any promises. It looks to have been recently polished and is in very good condition. There is a removable lantern with a wick and glass that sits inside the lantern. The base is about 7 inches square and the lantern is about 15.25 inches to all without the handle up and about 18" tall with the handle up. Antique brass boat lantern Made in England by the Viking Company.IT HAS BEEN ELECTRIFIED AND IS UNTESTED. VERY GOOD CONDITION. I SEE NO DENTS, GLASS HAS A CHIP ON ONE OF THE PANELS. Nautical Lantern Cargo Light Great Britain 1939 No. 3954 Touch Electric
Up for auction we have a Nautical Lantern/Cargo Light. Plaque on the front reads Cargo Light No. 3954 Great Britain 1939. This lantern has been converted from an oil burning lamp to a 3-level brightness touch activated electric lamp. Light is approx 15' tall. 9' wide, 6 1/2' deep, and weights approx 9.4 pounds. I have not cleaned the lamp because it gives it a better look. Lantern is in very good shape, only showing normal age for a piece like this. Offered as is.
