Usually they are made of bronze. This one has the bronze metal under all that black paint. Lantern appears original. With clear Fresnel lens. Lens is intact but has some BB dings or chips or cracks. Marked in the bronze casting on the side is"A" under that) is U.S.L.H 6. With few if any very minor expected dents, no cracks that I see. Lantern was electrified years ago but it needs repair or the wiring replacement. Overall in good, original condition. Approx. 12” dia. Fantastic Old USCG SOLID BRONZE SHIP CHANNEL MARKER LIGHT Clear Fresnel Lens 24"
Fantastic Offering OLD USCG CHANNEL MARKER LIGHT This looks to be solid bronze. Clear Fresnel lens. I've had this one forever! It's real and it's heavy. May have come from the Charleston. SC harbor.but I will not attest to that provenance. It shows the signs of use as the fresnel lens has some chips and the pin that allows the top to rotate open has been removed for safe operation(just unscrew the knurled ties and carefully lift the top completely off) One of the rods is wrung off too, but is hardly noticeable. This nautical lantern was originally painted white inside and that paint is partially intact. We think that the main body is cast bronze but could actually be brass, some of the components are indeed brass. We believe that the exterior was painted red(for red right returning) and remnants of that remain. Boat or Dock Light* This is a vintage maritime nautical Fresnel Lens Lamp that was previously being used as a dock light in Austoria. Oregon on Oregon's North Coast. It appears to be brass or copper metal(do not know if solid or plate) It has a glass fresnel lens. It measures approximately 7 1/2" tall to top of hanger and 4 1/2" in diameter at the base. It is wired to take a standard electric light bulb. The metal top and bottom attach to fresnel lens with thumb set screws. It is as found and well weathered from years of use although it is still functional. We have not cleaned the metal or glass and there are deposits from the elements on both the metal and glass. Peter Gray & Sons Ship Lantern with Red Fresnel Lens
This lantern is badged on the inside of the door"PETER GRAY& SONS. MANUFACTURERS, BOSTON MASS. The company used this name from about 1885- 1920, so presumably it was made during this time period. It stands about 13" high by 7" wide and 7" deep, not including the bracket on the back. The body of the lantern is steel, as is the burner except for its bottom which appears to be copper. It is complete, including the burner(the wick is even still there! and the mounting bracket on the back which clearly had fit into a mounting plate. Overall, it is in good condition, but here are the issues that I have found: The lens is chipped in four places. The worst of which is the dime-sized chip on the right side(shown in picture) There is also a chip from the edge of the lens on the top right and two in the lower left. The door does ... morenot close properly. I didn't wan't to mess with it and possibly cause further damage. I'll let the buyer make that decision! On the back. There is a crease about 4" long running beside the bracket- Slight surface rust here and there This belonged to my father and he told me that it is a ship's port lantern. While I cannot swear that this is accurate and that it is not a railroad lantern. My research seems to confirm that it looks most like a ship's lantern. I used an LED flashlight to take the picture with the light from the inside, but it does not really do the color justice. The lens is a beautiful ruby red.

RARE Antique New England Whale Oil Ship's Lamp With Blue Fresnel Lens
This beautiful ships lamp measures approximately 16in.x9in. and was found in a seaside barn in Massachusetts. The lamp has a heavy blue/green fresnel lens in two pieces joined by some type of fiber caulking. The body and lens cage are made from a heavy metal and are painted aqua-green. There are a couple of chips in the seam of the lens but is otherwise fine. The overall condition is fair with some rust and pitting that could be cleaned and reprinted if desired. There is no sign of wiring so I assume this was meant to be lit by oil. I have never seen a similar lamp and can find no maker's mark. This is for one vintage– antique red glass lens for a boat light. Ship light, shore light or lantern. It is in the shape of half of a cylinder. The lens is in the shape of a Fresnel lighthouse style lens. It is red glass through and through. Not just red on the surfaces. It is 7 3/8 inches tall and 7 7/8 inches wide at it's widest. It has an inside diameter of 6 9/16 inches. It has a molded in rabbit or stepped edge for mounting in the lantern on the top and bottom. On the top edge it has"Corning Made in U.S.A. molded in the glass. The side edges have grind marks from making it flat there. There are some small chips on the edges. There are no cracks or repairs on it. It came from Duluth, Minnesota. Duluth is at the west end of Lake Superior and has a large ocean going ship harbor. Antique Maritime Nautical Galvanized Metal & Copper Lantern body Fresnel Lens
This antique nautical lantern(fore lantern? was purchased at a river-side Estate Sale and had been used as part of the rustic maritime decor in the home's spacious family room. It is 13 1/2" tall(not counting the ring to hang it by) and 6 1/2" in diameter. It weighs nearly 5 pounds. There is no battery; however. The wires are present. The copper needs cleaning and the galvanized metal is weathered. The Fresnel lens seems to be in perfect condition once cleaned up(1st photo is cleaned lens; last photo is uncleaned lens. Antique nautical marine lantern brass fresnel lens lamp
Up for bids is a wonderful old lamp from a local estate. It stands about 10 1/4" tall not including the ring on top. It measures about 5 1/2" wide. The lamp was electrified at some pint long ago. The original burner was removed and a porcelain socket was installed in its place. The cord. Switch and plug are all in good shape. The socket takes a standard base light bulb. It comes with a mounting bracket attached to a pine board. The board measures about 10 5/8"x 6" The board is varnished and has nicely chamfered edges. The bracket does not look original to the lantern, but does a good job and holds the lantern snugly in place. I have used this lamp on a table as well as on the wall. It makes a great accent light. A small tag is on the top of it with the name of the company, and the top also has a serial number on it. This is probably a marine lamp, originally made of copper and brass and painted black on the outside. This has a heavy glass Fresnel lens that goes all the way around the source of light inside, which is currently an electrical light bulb, which we believe was a later addition to this piece. The electrical cord has been cut and tied in a knot, so it would need to be rewired, or you can easily remove the socket. The swing handle is made of heavy wrought iron. This lantern, which stands approx. 11.25" tall and 7.5" in diameter, has been put to work in its past, and shows scars of close encounters with various dings and bends. Vtg Copper Sealine Sea Line Hanging Ship Nautical Fresnel Type Lens Oil Lantern
This is the classic solid copper anchor lamp used on sailing ships for hundreds of years. The lamp is hand machined in pure heavy-gauge copper with brass trim. Comes with burner and a bit of wick. The Fresnel style lens is made to magnify the oil lamp light to be visible for 20 nautical miles. The Anchor lamp is named for it's use. A 360 o white light is required to be displayed at the highest point(the tallest mast) on all vessels at anchor or under way at night. These oil burning lanterns were made to be lit. Hoisted to the top of the mast with one rope tied to the handle and a 2nd rope tied to the bottom bail to keep it from swaying as the ship rolls with the sea. A very nice lamp. Ready to use. USCG Lightship LV-88 Bronze Lantern AGA Fresnel Lens Columbia River Lighthouse
This is one of two AGA bronze lanterns made in Sweden which were fitted to Light Vessel 88. Stationed off the mouth of the Columbia River from 1909 to 1939. Soda blasting has revealed various old stenciled markings around the base, but these are not easy to read. This lantern and its mate were removed from the LV88 by her last owner here in Canada. After she was sold by the Maritime Museum in Astoria, WA in 1980. The vessel was converted to a barquentine rig and chartered commercially in the Caribbean before being sold to a city in Japan for use as a simulated"black ship" of Admiral Perry's time. The location of the fresnel lens from this lantern is unknown. But identical 400mm lenses have been offered for sale on the internet for as much as $15,000. This is a difficult item to price, so I welcome information that would help ... moreto establish fair market value. This lantern weighs just over 380 pounds. Most of which is bronze. Three of the triangular panes of glass are broken or cracked. These could be replaced by a competent glass worker or foundry by hot bending plate glass of an appropriate type over a form. Probably it would be simplest to make a pattern from a flexible material and cut and grind the glass while flat and then bend to fit. This could probably be done more economically off-shore these days. As could the replacement of the fresnel lens if an original could not be found. The lantern is secured to its base with six 1" bolts and could be mounted for indoor or outdoor display. Polished or left as made. That will be up to the buyer! The brass screws that secure the brass strips that retain the glass panes tend to stick and break off. Requiring drilling out, but some careful heating with a small oxy-acetylene torch might prevent this. All of the retaining strips that were removed are present- none are missing from the lantern. The lantern will be crated by me. Secured by its mounting bolts to a suitable forkliftable base for truck freight. Pickup in person is also an option as equipment

I even found some old crouse- hinds catalogs with nothing on this lamp.The only place that I saw one a little alike was a history salvage place in Chicago. Two small chips about 1/4 long on several of the ridges.A slight bend in one of the ridges also, shows well in pictures, easy fix. Trying to be honest, they are there. Tag is nice and easy to read. This light was painted once with very little rust. Light is forged marked Crouse-Hinds Comp. Syracuse N.Y. USA and also HLP-1924. Has the old Crouse-Hinds logo forged into the cover plate. Light measures 27" tall with a diameter of 9" It is used, you could use it as is or restore this thing. When plugged in it covers a large area when shining. Need more pictures,let me know. If this auction goes well I have one more on hand plus one for exterior parts. Ask questions, and I think he pictures also do a good job for a description. Tag has a catalog# 44602 FRO 918 B. Weighs almost 20 lbs. Will be packed RIGHT when shipped. The power supply cord is a old extension cord I had laying around the shop. I just jury rigged the thing to see if the light worked after I got the light.
