RARE Vintage Lantern Light Buoy Piling Ship Anchor Dock Nautical Galv. Brass
Up for auction today is vintage nautical lantern. Different people call these types by such names as; buoy. Piling, master head, anchor, or dock lantern/ light. I am not sure of the proper name or use for this lantern. Can you inform me? It measures 17 ½” tall. The bottom is 8” in diameter, the top is 7 ½” in diameter, the lens is 4 ¾” tall(the exposed portion) and the lens is approx 5” in diameter. The lens is a dark ruby red and I see no cracks or chips. The body is galvanized metal with the rings. Latching hardware and the top ring of bottom portion being made of brass. There is a makers mark on the inside but some is missing and I cannot tell by what I can read who the maker is. Do you know? I assume that it was battery operated but there is no battery or wiring that is visible. I did not take the top portion apart and ... moredo not know if there is a bulb inside. Some tarnish. Scuffs/etc and three brackets screwed into the base. A small ding or two that I wouldn't call dents, but you may. Approximately 10 inches across the bottom and 19 inches tall- 21 inches if you count the top handle- more if you count the bottom handle: I do not know if the oil burner works or ever was supposed to work. Vintage brass bronze boat quadrant pulley ship anchor
Not quite sure what this is but it is well made. I believe it is a boat quadrant but I could be wrong. I believe it is made of bronze or something like it. It is not steel. You could see some very shiny areas poking through so I believe this would shine up nicely. It is about 11" x 11" There was also a bronze key attached with it but not quite sure what it is for. If I needed one of these I would seriously want this one. It is a beauty. It weighs just over 6 lbs. I really wanted to shine this up but I didnt. If it doesn't sell its going to sparkle! Description: This is a large antique"birdcage" type oil lantern that was made between 1860 and 1890. It has a period Fresnel lens globe that is in good condition with a bit of chipping around the rim. But no cracks or structural damage. These brass lamps were re-produced by Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation but this one is an original 1800s light as shown by the beautifully decorated hanging ring at the top, careful handmade construction, etc. This one is also extra special in that it has the post fittings for use in a light house- it is missing the brass plate which would have marked it as such, but you can see where it used to be attached. These antique nautical lamps were used extensively for anchor lights, and after its life in a lighthouse it may have been used at the top of the mast during heavy fog or in the night to keep other ... moreships from running into the boat. It is missing the burner and bottom plate- it may have been wired for electric after the use of whale oil lamps declined, but please note that only what is in the pictures is included. This is a large nautical lantern measuring 14" tall and 6" wide. Lamp measures a stately 23" to top of handle. 18" tall without handle and at its widest a 10" diameter. With the exception of a dent in the brass at the base the lantern is in excellent condition. Lantern inner chimney has a couple of chips and a crack at the bottom where it sits in base. This can be easily replace but I beleive that this one is original so I will not replace. RARE UNMODIFIED ANTIQUE BRASS SHIP ANCHOR LANTERN MARITIME NAUTICAL COPPER RIVET
Up for sale is RARE UNMODIFIED ANTIQUE BRASS SHIP ANCHOR LANTERN. This is such a great find because as just stated it is UNMODIFIED. Meaning it has NOT been converted over to electric. This lamp features a brass body with handmade copper rivets. All the hardware(rivets. Hinges, hasps, etc) appear to be hand made/forged. The ANCHOR brass label is applied on the top section which opens to expose the burner. The hook and chain to secure the hinged top are still intact. There is also a hinged top cap for flame inspection. When you open the top cap you will see that the chimney is triple insulated. It has a Frenzel type lens which appears to be old and original glass. The oil tank and burner assembly fits snug inside the lantern. Upon removal of the burner assembly from the oil tank. The wick is new and the inside of the oil tank has no residue ... moreor oil smell, suggesting it has to have been either cleaned very thoroughly(with several areas inside the tank unreachable) or possibly never used! Even though it seems to be the latter of the two options we still say possibly due to now documentation or provenance on the lantern beyond the current owner. This lack of evidence of use is consistent with inside of the metal chimney where no obvious traces of soot can be found. The base has aspiration vents all around it. The burner's wick knob has the words"SHERWOODS LTD. B'HAM MADE IN ENGLAND" on it. Making this from the very early 1900s at the latest from what we can find on the company. We have no reason to believe that this burner insert is anything but original to the lantern. Meaning we believe the lantern to be from the same time period. If anyone knows any different please share with us. In use this lamp would have been hauled up the ship's mast with halyards. To secure it as such. The lamp is equipped with substantial brass bail handles on the top and bottom. These are attached to heavy cast brass brackets riveted to the body of the lamp. This is a beautiful copper and brass kerosine anchor light with a nice aged patina. It is in is in excellent condition. There are no dents. Cracks or missing parts. All parts are made with heavy gauge copper and brass. The lens is thick heavy glass. You can see some small air bubbles inside the glass) This is truly a quality lamp that will last for many years. Here is a neat. Old maritime light. It's a wall-mounted light. The casing around the glass is aluminum. I'm pretty sure the anchor on top is brass. The glass is ribbed.it has no cracks or breaks. I do not see a Maker's name anywhere.so I couldn't tell you who made it. Right now it is wired to just be plugged into a socked.someone put the end on it. You can easily wire it directly to the wall, if desired. It uses one standard size bulb. From the base to the top of the anchor measures approx. 9 1/2" tall. The glass.the part that is showing) is about 3" tall and 4" in diameter. The center of the glass sort-of'bubbles' outward. No cracks or breaks. RARE Vintage 14 Inch Copper Brass Nautical Ship Lamp Lantern by Anchor Electric
Rare antique copper and brass ships lantern from the south Texas coast. Lantern is an ANCHOR brand made by W.T. GEORGE Co. Ltd. Sherlock Street, Birmingham 5. The main body measures 14 inches tall by 10 inches across. Has both an upper and lower arm to allow it to swing with the ships movement. It was electrified several with 16/3 wiring but it does not light up at this time. Pops a breaker so it it probably in the on/off switch built into the long electrical cord. Super conversation piece for that man cave.

For auction is an old oil lamp. Very unusual one, I think. I have not been able to figure out too much about it. It has some age though. The bottom is weighted, which I was thinking might indicate that it was to be used on a boat or ship. The only marking is on the knob and it has an R and V on each side of a anchor. I have had this a few years in my basement bar. But changing themes and it is time to let it go. I am not sure it is functional, but the way it is made I would expect that it might be. Here we have a very large ship or boat lamp or lantern marked"Anchor" This estate found lantern is made from solid brass which has been lacquered. Although the lacquer is crazing from age. It still displays very nicely. The center cap in the top flips up and it also opens at the base of the top as well. There is an oil lamp inside that does have the wick. In the center there is a very thick ribbed glass lens that has no cracks. There is a brass anchor hook on the top and the bottom. No dents, nice vintage condition. Very large, the lamp itself measures an impressive 18 1/2" tall not including the anchor hooks at the top and bottom. Diameter is about 9 3/4" This sizable lamp displays nicely.
