It is rather large, and I believe it is made out of copper and brass, based on the way it has tarnished, but I am unsure. The burner itself, and the glass pieces appear to be in good shape, but the exterior needs to be refinished or polished. This would be an excellent project for a restoration, or just a very cool nautically themed piece to have around the house. I will be selling the second of these lanterns in a separate auction with similar details. The only difference between this one and the other is that this one has a piece of curved metal around the glass over the burner on the inside, and the glass cover is shorter. Old. Metal, brass, nautical hand lantern. This item shows overall wear including scratches. Tarnishing, discoloration, and minor rust at the seams found to the metal. All parts appear to be original including the burner which has the only markings on the knob which are for P& A Mfg Co. Made in Waterbury, Conn. Not including the back handles. This item measures approximately 2.75” x 6” x 10” at its largest dimensions. There is a very clever door opening device which is a pin with a wing behind the glass; when the pin is turned. Up for auction is a rare and unique pair of brass hanging lamps. Typically brass lamps and lighting were used in nautical applications but also found in industrial settings so its hard to say what these were originally used for. These feature the explosion proof cages and glass that characterize much of the industrial lighting. The hanging/ceiling mount hardware is elegant and should be ready to wire up(though I am unable to test the units) Overall length is 26" Lamp shade is about 8.5" diameter. I have been unable to find a manufacturer's mark or label so far. Perfect for repurposing in your restaurant. The circular plate is 4" across. The cage is 4 1/4" across& about 6" tall from bottom of cage to screw threads. Pauluhn" is cast into the cage and the angular mounting. P57" is also cast into the angular mounting. There is one part at the top of the cage that appears as though it was buffed to a shine. Antique Heavy Brass Nautical Oil Lamp Patents 1869 - 1877 2 & 1/8" Lip Chimney
Heavy antique brass oil lamp with a nautical dual wick signal oil burner having patent dates from to 1869 to 1877 on the knob. Signal Oil" was commonally used in marine applications because it was cheap and because it's thick consistency made it suitable to do double duty as a lubricant. NOTE; modern lamp oil. Vegetable oil, olive oil, Etc will work fine as substitutes for signal oil. Burner top lifts off for lighting the dual wicks, doing so reveals a spherical preheat chamber designed to warm and thin the signal oil in cold conditions. Lamp is dent free. Burner is in excellent lightly used condition including the spring clips that retain the period{lots of swirls in the hand blown glass} chimney. Has new wicks and is ready to use. Pair of 2- Old Brass ship lanterns. Made by the PERKINS MARINE LAMP CORP. out of Brooklyn New York. Brass Has a beautiful natural aged patina. The original glass lens is starting to turn a very slight amethyst color. The lanterns inside were made by E. MILLER Co. And are marked. Look at the pictures closely. This is exactly the way I found them. I think they would polish up nicely. They measure about 17-1/2" tall(including the bail) and each weighs close to 9 pounds. In excellent condition. And would clean up nicely if you choose to do so. Both show expected wear. And have a few dings. Overall in Very Good Condition.

2 ANTIQUE BRASS SHIP MARINE NAUTICAL LANTERNS ELECTRIC LAMP BIRDCAGE PERKINS
I apologize for the length but I wanted to be thorough. Up for sale are two antique nautical oil lanterns that were converted for electrical use. After some Internet research I found a match for these lanterns. They are not stamped but identically match the Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation models made during 1916 to 1931. These were considered a"standing light" and were used aboard US Naval torpedo boats. Battle ships and destroyers of the WW1 era, according to"Lanterns That Lit Our World" book 2 page 120 by Anthony Hobson. Size is 17.5 inches tall and about 9 pounds each. These may or may not have been used in that capacity but they due seem genuine even thought they are not stamped with a company name. In any case as you can see one is red and the other is green. The coloring does not seem to be original according to ... morethe research but you can decide whether to keep it that way or remove the paint. Both lanterns have colored bulbs that will come with this auction. Condition The paint on the red lantern is about 50% missing. It was difficult to get a good picture that represented how the red lantern looks with the bulb on. But there is a picture taken from inside the glass to show the condition of the paint. The red lantern also has 3 vertical seams and do not appear to be cracks. I believe the glass was replaced when they were converted since the lines are straight and do not appear to be damage related. The red lantern also has two screws in the bottom, see pic, to hold the bulb/lantern housing in place. The green lantern has a dent in the top, see pic. The"hanging hooks" are a bit out of square as seen in the pictures. I have not found any cracks or holes in the brass housing that should not be there. Both lights have pull strings to turn lights on and off without unplugging. Both have old two prong style plugs. The oil lamp bases are original aside from the electrical retrofitting that took place. There is some soldering and repair work on bulb housing but it cant be seen unless yo

Up for sale is a very old Nautical Maritime Navigation Brass PORT Lantern/Light. Let me start by saying I do not know what I have here; it is old. Weathered and has some rust and oxidizing on the lantern. The top hanging part is loose as screws not secure in the back of it. I believe it is copper and or brass. I do not see any name on the lantern. There are no dents on the lantern. Front screw opening. The front has the word PORT. The light is heavy red glass. Not plastic. There is no interior piece that lights the lantern. The glass has come loose and the metal frame has separated in the corner but all of this can be fixed. Could use a cleaning/polishing. For its age. It is in very good condition. There is a partial interior gasket photo 9 that could be replaced or not. Needs a bulb has wiring. Lens rear rim that faces the back is partial not cracked and fits well. Nice winged type design. Very heavy I believe bronze/brass chromed over. The top of the lens reads 186-P. RARE 1900'S ANTIQUE NAUTICAL- BOAT SIGNAL LANTERN - BRASS - ZINC- OIL BURNING
For your bidding is a Rare P and A Mfg. Antique Nautical Boat Signal Lantern with Brass Oil Burner. Font Lighting Popular in the 1900's to communicate to other ships. Or ship to shore before Marconi was invented and used. This beautiful lamp was given to me by my Aunt when I was a child. Both my Aunt and Uncle were avid collectors of memorabilia from Great Lakes Ships and Freighters. Often they would buy the inside remains of a ship when it was to be scrapped. Removing steering wheels. Telegraphs, chad burns, lanterns, name plates, ship wheels, compasses, steam whistles, you name it. Anything that had value to be saved later and become collectible. I have no doubt this piece came off a ship. I just do not know which one. This is a beautiful piece. Which I feel is museum quality, and should belong to a serious collector. That is why I'am ... morelisting it. It is in Very Good condition for its age. Era and vintage. There is some slight wear which is understandable for a piece this old. I have not polished the Brass in years. There are no dents. Or dings on the piece, a few minor spots of rust, on the inside signal shutter, behind the lens, which I'm sure would clean up with little effort. The 3" glass lens is flawless, with no scratches, cracks, or chips. The door opens. And closes as does the spring signal shutter. The belt clip is complete, along with the two adjustable carrying handles. Inside you will find the original burner. And wick. The top unscrews to fill it with lamp oil and it is adjustable for brightness. This does have Boat Signal Lantern stamped above the hinged door. Perko is NOT the only company who made these lanterns. The only markings on this one are on the burner wick adjustment which says P and A Mfg. Waterbury Conn, Usa. Which stands for Plume and Atwood Manufacturing. The company was established in 1869.
