Antique Vintage Boat Nautical Marine Oil lamps Port Starboard Green Red Ship
Up for auction are two antique nautical port/ starboard oil lamps. I have yet to see a pair exactly like this with smooth glass. Unfortunately i do not see any markings on them. The body's of the lamp appear to be galvanized but i could be wrong. The lenses of these lamps are in very nice shape with no visable cracks. One is green and one is red. These lamps appear complete minus the one is missing a part out of the bottom as seen in the picture. The only other issue is that the top of the one lamp has a dent and the top has some minor damage. Other then that they would make a great display piece. These are being sold as is. An antique boat lantern in good condition. All original patina. It has a kerosene/oil? burner with adjustable wick. Red glass on one side and green glass on the other. I do not see a manufacturers name on it. I don't think that the top is the original top. But I could be mistaken. There is a small dent on the left side and some of the green glass is chipped as you can see in the last picture. It measures 10" high and 5" wide. Unlike many of these lanterns this one still has the original Perko lamp inside as shown in pictures. The sliding hatch mechanism still works on this piece. It was used as a display piece in the house and they had a screw in the base of the signal to hold the sliding hatch open. Lamp measures a stately 23" to top of handle. 18" tall without handle and at its widest a 10" diameter. With the exception of a dent in the brass at the base the lantern is in excellent condition. Lantern inner chimney has a couple of chips and a crack at the bottom where it sits in base. This can be easily replace but I beleive that this one is original so I will not replace. It is in fine working condition, but as with all vintage items, it is imperfect. I cannot speak as to its age: the 1842 in the name is probably the founding date of the company. An original solid brass oil lantern made by BULPITT& SONS BIRMINGHAM 1940 Embossed on the chimney of the lantern. F ully functional. Heavy gauge brass lantern complete with all its original parts. Used aboard a ship as a bulkhead. Cabin/wardroom lamp. Stands 16" high. 20" high with the handle upright, 8 1/2" wide x 6" deep. The unit has a three sided glass face. With a right side access door. These are from my 1976 English offshore racing sailboat. I've never used them. So cannot verify their working. I'd imagine they are fairly bulletproof simple things that should work, perhaps needing a bit of maintenance. They could use a good polishing. It is possible the the body brass is pitted beyond shine. The upper cap rod is missing its end cap thread, entirely aesthetic. All in all they seem a quality build.
