It does have some light surface scratches and wear from general use, but no major damage or gouges. The top has a lot of water stains on it, and the finish is a bit faded in this area as well. It is footed and sits on slight cabriole curved feet. It has beautiful grain and was manufactured by a trusted furniture manufacturer. It was made by the Caswell-Runyan Company in Huntington Indiana. The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water stains. There is some minor shrinkage to the floating panels(top and sides) that seems to self adjust with more humidity as the weather changes. Antique Amish Cedar Chest
This cedar chest is very solid although the top has 2 cracks in it. The bottom side of the top has been glued and reinforced and is very solid. One side shows where the cedar cracked but it does not effect the integrity of the piece. I am not a dealer or an expert. I was told when we bought this chest 30 years ago it was Amish but I don't know that for a fact.It is evident it is very old and hand crafted. The original hinges have been replaced. I have never tried to remove the ring stains on the top. The lid closes and fits properly. It is obviously not a perfect piece but quite unusual and has a lot of character. I do not know the significance of the heart carving on the front or the age of the chest. It has no markings on it. I have not put any stain or poly finish on the wood. Just some furniture polish to bring out the grain.

Lane Sock Cedar Chest ANtique Vintage
This is an unusual piece I cannot find another like in my research. But quite certain it is a factory piece and fyi, I picked it up about an hour away from its birthplace in Altavista, Virginia. I believe this was used for storing wool socks and other smaller garments from moths. I just wiped this off with a damp cloth. Leaving the final finish up to the new owner. The flaws are some scratching on the surface. Some edge splits(that could be glued) and a small chunk missing at the tip of the"foot" lid. Also. There are nail holes toward the top on each side evidencing there was a straight piece of cedar creating another section originally.but easily fixed. This cedar chest measures 32.5 long x 8 1/4 deep(not including the foot) x 7 inches high.

Original antique/vintage Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. Date of manufacture is Serial# in reverse: 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. The"Lane Cedar Chest Company" started in business as the"Standard Red Cedar Chest Company" in 1912 and the name changed to Lane Cedar Chest in 1922. Chest and box manufacture was their primary business. This chest is in excellent condition. And has a push in latch. We vacuumed out the interior, cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. The scroll Panel on the front is wood and there are a couple of very small dents and dings. Like many of the later chests this is solid red cedar on all sides covered with verneer but the rear could be finished so it can sit in the open in a room and be used as a cocktail table. With or without glass. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit ... moreof veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. This cedar chest has been in my family since it was new. From the research I've done. It appears the date of manufacture is 10/06/1936. I have the serial number and style number. see photos) The interior is perfect(see photos. It would be worth a lot more money if refinished and possibly the lock replaced. The lock can easily be replaced and it still available for free due to a lock recall, so I just ordered one online and am waiting to receive it in the mail.
