I believe from air plane panels. The quality is military over-build which is very durable and tough. On the top of this trunk a hole punched stencil reads'Major Ben W. Hunsaker. M.A.T.S. Andrews A.F. Base, Wash. D.C. M.A.T.S. stands for Military Air Transport Service. Activated on 1 June 1948. M.A.T.S was a consolidation of the United States Navy Naval Air Transport Service(NATS) and the United States Air Force Air Transport Command(ATC) into a single, joint, unified command. It was inactivated and discontinued on 8 January 1966 when the Air Force and Navy set up separate strategic airlift commands. There is a red metal tag riveted to the front reading'KOWA Industry' and leather carry handles at both ends. Two latches and a locking mechanism secure the trunk. Matching KOWA key is included. As you can see in the photos the trunk is in good vintage condition with normal wear consistent with age and it’s use. All which adds to the character of the piece. There is some faint writing on the lid in faded marker. See photos. This trunk is 29.75” long x 17” wide x 13.5” high. Use as a coffee table, end table, or storage chest. Vintage WWII Japanese Footlocker/Trunk. Made of wood(not sure what kind) Is a little"rough around the edges" but sturdy. Several nails have been hammered inside the lid(see pics) One latch is missing(see pics) Dovetail like construction(but NOT dovetail) Name engraved is Hachiro Kita. There is some writing on the front of the box in(I think) indelible marker. I'm not certain what the inscription means(if anything) My guess is that this was used during the period when the U.S. created'camps' for the Japanese that lived in the States during the war. Did some brief internet research on Hachiro Kita and it looks as though he may have lived in Colorado during that time. None of this information is confirmed. However. If you have any insight. Vintage WWII Shipping Container with painted legs
This is a reclaimed military shipping container that I propped up on wooden legs and painted to mirror the worn look of the box. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned. The box has been lightly reinforced to not split the wood. The box itself has been waxed inside and out with two separated waxes to insure no further wear and tear. Cleanliness of the box and to make it easy to clean in for years to come. This piece will provide a ton of extra storage as well add panache to any room. It is my understanding that this was a shipping container from WWII. I have no documentation of that, but is a great conversation piece! For sale is a U.S. Military luggage style chest/trunk. The trunk measures 30 3/4" in width. 12 1/2" in height and 16 3/4" in depth. The trunk is complete with front leather handle(very worn) and is missing the single side handle. The lock has since been removed. The inside top compartment tray is in good shape. Vintage 1942 Shwayder Brothers Toy Box Trunk Foot Locker Chest WWII MILITARY
Very old all wood 1942 vintage trunk. I believe it is actually a WW2 Shwayder Brothers. Inc. 1942 U.S. MILITARY WOOD FOOT LOCKER. It has lost most of the paint and someone has put vintage superheroes stickers all over it many. Many years ago. All the hardware is metal including the latches, corners and all the ends. One corner piece is missing. The handles on the sides are wood. All the hinges and latches work. Inside lid reads Shwayder Bros Inc 1942. If you look closely at the pictures of the lid you can see there is also some stencil letter writing. I can not make out what it says but it appears to have originally taken up almost the entire lid. How great if a family member saw this ad and brought it home! This charming old wardrobe trunk is a LAUB'S LUGGAGE Baggage Builders brand. Manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky. It is in good condition inside and outside, with obvious age related scars but no major flaws. It can be used flat for a coffee table or upright to store items in the four drawers of various sizes. It also still has the original wooden clothing hangers on the left side and looks awesome decorating an old-fashioned bedroom with vintage style clothes hanging inside. ... moreThe outside is black in color and the inside is a medium blue. The long side is flat but when standing upright. The top end has a slight curvature design& this end also opens for easy access to the clothing hangers. The Laub Brothers were trunk makers from around the 1860's through probably the 1920's and possibly as late as the 1930's. They had two stores located at 422 West Jefferson Street and 516 South Fourth Street in Louisville. Kentucky. I believe this particular trunk was probably manufactured towards the end of this company's history so early 1900's. A 1926 advertisement read"Buy Laub's trunks first because Laub's trunks last" they certainly did! The trunk opens/closes well& is quite sturdy- has been stored in a dry. Safe& clean environment since we've had it. Size is approximately 40" on the longest side& the other two dimensions are approximately 22" each. There is no key& the lock would need repair. Vintage WWII Shwayder Trunk Co. steamer trunk/ foot locker. Measures 30" x 16" x 12" and is quite large. Shows signs of wear and use. Light rust, plenty of dings and dents, and the main locking latch appears to be bent. The side latches work fine and do a great job of closing. It is solidly built and has a beautiful aged patina which has never been cleaned. Handles read'Shwayder Trunk Co.
