Painted navy blue on the outside. It features wrap around decorative brass hardware on the top and bottom edges of the trunk itself and on the four corners of the top, please refer to photos for detail. There are two wide decorative brass bands running up the front of the trunk and the lid, across the top of the lid, and down the back of the trunk, all held in place with tiny brass nails. The lid is hinged in the back, all hardware is brass. The front lid features two brass tabs which fold down onto the locking pins. Going through the locking ... morepins are a pair of Japanese locks, very rare nowadays, but popular on storage trunks in the 1920's and 30's. The locks themselves are solid brass, a collector's item in themselves- we have chosen to offer them with the trunk, as they came to us at auction with the trunk. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. This solid wood(pine) carpenter's trunk was made by a carpenter sometime in the 20th century. Carpenters would fashion themselves these trunks with which they could carry their tools. The interior of the lid has pieces to hold a hand saw. The exterior is painted a dark. Hunter green with expected wear and tear and some white paint splatter. The interior is unpainted. An iron latch suitable for a padlock holds the trunk shut. Simple, iron handles on the sides make carrying easy. The trunk measures 36-3/4" wide x 12" high x 13" deep. It weighs about 35lbs. Vintage Industrial Wood Trunk Crate Case Foot Locker Blanket Chest Toy Box
This wood crate has a nice warm finish and interesting hinges. A latch has been removed from the lid. And there are two handles, one on the end and one below where the latch was. The cabinet has an interior lining that is like corrugated cardboard. The trunk measures 31" L x 19" W x 13" T. The interior measures 28.5" L x 15.5" W x 9 3/4" T with a 1" of additional height inside the lid. This is a nice sized trunk that would work great for storing items, stood on end for a display, or as a low end table. It can be stood on end easily due to the lack of the handle on one end. It is gold lined with a velvety material but the ribbon is not attached but could be easily attached to keep the lid from going back too far. The latch on front of chest does need repair and there is one small crack on one of the top slats on top of chest. The slats are wood and the sides. 1900's Antique Yale & Towne Steamer Trunk Chest Wood Leather Brass
This is a great antique trunk that at one time was used by Lumpee& Russ Harness Makers; I cannot make out the rest of the wording. The trunk is structurally solid. The valet tray has two holes but this could be nicely refinished. The top tray has two sections with one that does have the leather/button loop closure intact. There is no key in the locking mechanism that was made by Yale Towne MFG out of Stamford. Conn. It weighs just under 55 pounds. This is being sold as is. If you live on the I-5 corridor on the west coast(Washington, Oregon and California) I have a shipper. Antique Hand Hammered Gilt Copper & Brass Clad Wood Chest Trunk Box on Wheels
Wonderful Primitive Antique Hand Hammered Gilt Copper& Brass Clad Wood Chest/Trunk. This is an all original beautiful piece. It is NOT a reproduction. It is sitting on wooden wheels. It has a hinged lid but one of the hinges has come loose from the lid and the piece of wood it was attached to has broken off. The hinge is still attached to the box. The lid still opens and closes fine and this could probably be repaired. There are some places throughout the box where the copper may be slightly bent. Dented, cracked etc. One of the corners has a piece of the trim that is around the edges that has come off but we do have a piece of it that may be reattached. The top of the lid has a spot where one of the nail holes is open and there is some white"sand" or something that they used to keep the 3D scene from caving in inside. Overall ... moremeasurements are 18 1/4" wide side to side, 11 1/2" front to back, and 13" tall. The scene on the front is four men sitting on benches and upside down barrels. One man standing to the side with what looks like a stein in one hand and a woman peeking out the door of the cottage. There is a cat sitting close by observing the men. The has what looks like men and women. One man looks to be helping a woman up off the ground. The scene on one of the sides is two men sitting inside amongst overturned barrels with bottles. Vases, pots etc in the background on a shelf. One is playing a violin or fiddle and the other is sitting next to him. The scene on the other side shows a man sitting in a chair with another man standing over him in front of him. Maybe he's a doctor or dentist? I can't really tell what he is doing. There are several pieces of stickers on the trunk and one from the Black Ball Freight Service with the phone number"BREMERTON 300" dates the sticker to the days before we dialed phone numbers directly. I would guess the trunk dates to around the turn of the century. It's made out of wood with metal brackets and rivets. Black laminate on the outside. Blue and white paper covering the inside. Measures 30 1/2" long by 18 wide by 19 1/4" tall on the outside. Inside dimensions are 29 1/2" long by 16 1/2" wide by 14 1/2" tall. The lid is 3 3/4" tall on the inside. It weighs 26 pounds. It would make a stunning blanket chest with ample storage. It is from the 1890's-1920's. Original detailed metal brackets. Hinges, locks, and bolts can be seen flowing throughout the entirety of this piece. The settle your gaze upon the patina and the color of the warm metal construction. Decorative metal framework and nail/tack decorations add a touch of pizazz and extra strength to this already solid piece. This piece is universal. Use it as an accent piece.
