This doll chest is in good condition. It has definate aged appearance and patina. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. It appears that the tray and handles were added and are not original to the chest. Very nice and decorative detail and appeal. Inside original interior paper is mostly gone. Measures 18" wide x 10 1/2" high x 7 1/2" deep on the inside with removal of the wooden tray. There is no lock for this trunk. Two beautiful handles on either side. Has wonderful metal features and attachments. Opens to a interior tray. Plenty of room. Color: Brown. Fantastic primitive appeal. This is a grand old Jenny Lind Travel Trunk that is made of pine wood and has iron latches and support strips. The trunk is a copy of the old Jenny Lind travel type made famous by her. The trunk is dated about 1940 or so. It has been reconditioned as there is slight discoloration in hidden places. The truck is wonderful. It's strong and sturdy ready to haul heavy items or simply to store blankets and such. The trunk is naturally distressed all over, there are cracks in the wood that lend to its beauty and charm. The trunk measures 14 inches tall, 26 inches from side to side and it has a 4 inch top lid that opens to reveal a 3 1/2 inch tall pull out shelf. This is a old metal vintage steamer trunk that opens from the side. Not sure about the age. It's in pretty good condition for its age. The top is wooden. There is some small damage on top that could be replaced or leave it as is. The inside is great. The lock is a little bent. I'm pretty sure you can straighten it out. Several nails have been hammered inside the lid(see pics) One latch is missing(see pics) Dovetail like construction(but NOT dovetail) Name engraved is Hachiro Kita. There is some writing on the front of the box in(I think) indelible marker. I'm not certain what the inscription means(if anything) My guess is that this was used during the period when the U.S. created'camps' for the Japanese that lived in the States during the war. Did some brief internet research on Hachiro Kita and it looks as though he may have lived in Colorado during that time. None of this information is confirmed. However. If you have any insight. Vintage wood bound steamer trunk. There are no identifying marks on the hardware or trunk other than the number 75 below the keyhole on the latch. I believe this trunk was made in the UK as the estate I acquired it from had many vintage items from Europe. However that is not for certain. I am not a collector and know very little about old trunks. So I have taken pictures from every angle so you can see the entire trunk. This is a wonderful antique streamer truck/chest for doll's clothes. A toy most girls had to have at the turn of the 20th century. I'm not sure how old the trunk is. It is made of thin metal over wood and the metal reacts to a magnet. The trunk has a center key lock(non working) and 2 metal clasp brass colored steel(magnetic) All 4 corners have the same brass colored metal with tacks. There is a black metal band along the center edge with grommets or tacks. A leather strap embossed with the number 22 allows for easy carrying by an adult as the trunk weighs 16 pounds when empty. The handle is sturdy but has light surface cracks. In its upright position. The trunk opens to a wooden interior with 3 stacked drawers and a side for hanging the clothes. It does come with the 7 original wooden hangers(one is missing from the picture) The ... moredrawers can be removed and are stack-able within the trunk space. Slight loss of the blue paint on the edges of the right side. The trunk measures 22" tall x 12" x 12" There is a blank metal tag on the top near the handle. Antique REFINISHED Flat Top Steamer Travel Trunk Wooden Chest Original Hardware
Refinished antique wooden steamer trunk circa late 1890’s. Early 1900’s with original hardware. This has a wonderful flat top surface, perfect use for a table or at the bottom of a bed. Plus it is nice and roomy, excellent for extra storage. The inside has been stripped of the original paper. Brass colored hardware and front lock, no key. Original handles in tact, which is rare as most broke off over time. The wood has been finished in a nice warm medium pine color with a not to shiny, not to dull, just right finish. The metal hardware has not been repainted, only cleaned. I like to leave the hardware in its found state. Rear hinges are in working order and original inside hardware holds lid up perfectly. It stands on four free moving castors and the top is hinged at the back edge with two strong and sturdy hinges. It is finished overa ll in a reddish mahogany colour internally it is plain and dry. There are.Of course, a myriad of very characteful nicks, dinks. Scars, dents, scratches and so on over most of the piece, with paint splashes and a couple of chunks that have been gauged out on the right hand side, but nothing serious and all very characterful. This is a very nice vintage humpback trunk with hand painted flowers and artist signature. I am not sure of age of trunk but flowers with artist signature is dated 1978. This trunk is solid wood and very large and heavy. It is about 42 inches across and about 17 inches wide. The inside is very pretty. An old original fab steamer chest with lots of metal banding and end cap brackets. It is a original steamer chest from circa 1900's and would have been used on the ships of old Metal handles at each side. Front locks and clasps there is no longer any key for the middle lock long gone. Four hardwood slats on top with one at the front and back also. It is approx. half the height of the standard ones. So would be great for any room in the house to make a great look and not take up to much space. The chest has a nice shiny bri wax finish. The trunk bears the maker's mark(badge) on top over the lock: Henry Likly& Co. Makers. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This is an older restoration and all the original hardware and materials are still there. The refinish is not perfect and still maintains much of the same appearance it did as when Henry Likly first delivered the trunk. It has been in a home that used it everyday and never left in storage not being used. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Refinished and stained. The ... morelock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is intact with a few rips or scuffs. The fabric has been sealed to stay bonded to the wood. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has been recoated and looks great with the pings and dings from being around a 100 plus years. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is intact and in decent condition. The interior has zero smell and not mildewed. H Hoskins and Co marked wooden trunk and/or box. This is a really remarkable piece and I haven't been able to find any other trunks like this one. This trunk has a few markings on the interior of the box(please see pictures) But it looks like it was from Wm. H. Hoskins and Co, which was a stationary company from the late 1800's into the early 1900's in Philadelphia. The box also has a"Penn. R. marking, which makes me think this might have been used on the railroads, but this is just my own speculation. The box measures 37"L x 16"W x 14"H. For sale is this Gorgeous Vintage Wooden Trunk Covered in a Metal Outer Shell. The outer shell is painted black. The trunk body is in very good condition. The bottom is not rusted and all of the wooden parts of the bottom are attached. There are only a few notable cosmetic issues. The paper on the inside of the trunk has some damage to it(there is staining and some tears) It is also missing the handles on the sides. I dont have the key for the front lock and neither did the previous owner. I assume that is the reason for the detached bottom plate of the lock from the trunk's body. L.R. WEBSTER is stenciled on top There are a couple of labels tacked to the top and front which are no longer legible. There are also a couple of Railway Express Agency labels(remnants only) attached to the sides. One is fragmenting(bits might fall off before you receive it) Nice heavy handles on the sides and a padlock hasp to secure the lid. The remains of casters are on the bottom(the plates are all that remain) So this item was probably used as a portable chest in the past. The interior is painted with a cream colored paint. Which is chipping as shown. I left the exterior finish un-polished. When you look closely you can see water stains and other marks of character. You can certainly apply a polish like Old English. This auction is for a wonderful antique rustic shop trunk and it is really unique. It measures 11" long x 6 1/4" deep and it is 7 1/4" tall. It has the most wonderful look to it and it is marked"RED" and Electric Shop on the top in silver. It's handle is missing from the top(and the hardware on the front is missing too and there are no side handles) and as you can see this old handmade trunk is quite worn- it has marks. Dings, gouges, splits, surface loss, paint marks, etc. and when you open it up(it opens up in the middle) it has one side with a divider and the other one is one compartment and the piece in the center has sort of a flat writing desk as well.
