Painted navy blue on the outside. There are two wide decorative brass bands running up the front of the trunk and the lid, across the top of the lid, and down the back of the trunk, all held in place with tiny brass nails. Very old trunk. I got it from an elderly friend of mine-in her 90's. The trunk belonged to her aunt-so it has to be at least a hundred years old if not more. It is 19 inches wide. 13 1/4 inches deep, 32 inches long. Lid is 3 1/2 inches deep and inside is 9 inches from the edge to bottom. The trunk is wood with metal bottom with 3 2 inch brace boards for support. There are metal bands for support on all edges and corners.The bottom and lid have a crack length wise. Leather handles on side rotted off. Back and front leather straps are rotted off. Has original hardware and hinges- front and back. Missing hinge on left side inside lid. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. Offered is an early 1900 Trunk which measurers 13 inches high. 36 inches wide and 22 inches deep. It has a center lock labeled"Eagle Lock Co. 178, Terryville, Conn. U.S. which is slightly bent. No key. There are two leather straps originally with the trunk which are not complete. The side handle leather grips are in good condition. The wood slats appear to be oak type of wood, but not positive. The interior is original with no restoration, lid lock needs reattachment, and the truck interior is wooden construction with an extra metal base evident from the outside base. There is one dent in the metal base, which is black color in the photos. The trunk is wrapped in oil cloth or a canvas type of material, with metal corners and metal edges. One metal trim edge on the back of the trunk, near its base, is loose. Original labels on the side ... moreof the trunk and a partial label is on the top. There is one snap closer Broke on right side. The Box that sits on top top is in good shape except has cracks in the paper liner and one stain. MINIATURE OR DOLL ANTIQUE DOME TOP WOOD TRUNK
Up for bid is a very nice antique miniature or doll size wood dome top trunk. Believed to be from the last turn of the century. This small wood trunk, is covered with a brown and black paper, wood slats, tin corners, tin hardware, cardboard trim and once upon a time, leather handles. The paper is missing or torn in some spots, as is some of the original cardboard trim, and the handles are missing. The inside is a whole different story, fashioned with wall to wall wallpaper, and a tray to boot. There is a cloth strap inside which once held the trunk top open, so that the top did not break the hinges, when let go of. The strap can easily be re-fastened to the inside lid. The inside contents as found appear to be doll clothes and blankets or quilted items, and your getting those as well. Priced high over the years, I probably only ever owned ... moremaybe a small handful of these in the last 40+ years of being in business of buying antiques. They are rare to find, especially in such nice condition as this. A great project piece, just waiting to be refinished and used to keep jewelry, make it into a humidor for your cigars, or give it to a small child who might want to use it for dolls or small collectibles. The trunk measures 16" in length x 10-1/2" high x 9-3/4" wide. Vintage Wood Trunk White Star Line
Rare Vintage Trunk with some Very Interesting Impressions. It is Stamped White Star which I assume means it was used on a White Star Ship. It is Painted and has several flowers painted on it as well. The Patina is very old and looks to be done when the box was made or very shortly after. It is stamped with several words I cant decipher with the exception of"White Star" and the Lot Number. There are some worm holes in the bottom but the chest is very sturdy and in excellent working order. The clasps are tight and easy to use. Own a Piece of American History Today! This trunk is over 100 years old! ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(591.100) With Measurements: 30.5"w x 17 3/4"d x 23"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over ... morethe top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. This solid wood(pine) carpenter's trunk was made by a carpenter sometime in the 20th century. Carpenters would fashion themselves these trunks with which they could carry their tools. The interior of the lid has pieces to hold a hand saw. The exterior is painted a dark. Hunter green with expected wear and tear and some white paint splatter. The interior is unpainted. An iron latch suitable for a padlock holds the trunk shut. Simple, iron handles on the sides make carrying easy. The trunk measures 36-3/4" wide x 12" high x 13" deep. It weighs about 35lbs. Antique silver tin metal over wood steamer trunk early 1900's unique Rare 1930's
For your consideration is an antique steamer trunk. Dates to approximately 1932. There are stickers on the trunk. Which I did not remove. This is a large trunk, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. I was told that this trunk went from Germany to England and to Scotland and then to the United States. Measures 40" wide, 21" wide and 21" deep. This trunk does show wear, but adds to the history. There is some damage to the inside and made some holes on the underside. This does not effect the look, but would not make a good shipping trunk anymore.
