Very old trunk. I got it from an elderly friend of mine-in her 90's. The trunk belonged to her aunt-so it has to be at least a hundred years old if not more. It is 19 inches wide. 13 1/4 inches deep, 32 inches long. Lid is 3 1/2 inches deep and inside is 9 inches from the edge to bottom. The trunk is wood with metal bottom with 3 2 inch brace boards for support. There are metal bands for support on all edges and corners.The bottom and lid have a crack length wise. Leather handles on side rotted off. Back and front leather straps are rotted off. Has original hardware and hinges- front and back. Missing hinge on left side inside lid. Own a Piece of American History Today! This trunk is over 100 years old! ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(591.100) With Measurements: 30.5"w x 17 3/4"d x 23"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over ... morethe top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. For your consideration is an antique steamer trunk. Dates to approximately 1932. There are stickers on the trunk. Which I did not remove. This is a large trunk, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. I was told that this trunk went from Germany to England and to Scotland and then to the United States. Measures 40" wide, 21" wide and 21" deep. This trunk does show wear, but adds to the history. There is some damage to the inside and made some holes on the underside. This does not effect the look, but would not make a good shipping trunk anymore. Antique CHILD'S DOLL STEAMER TRUNK Metal Over Wood, 3 Wooden Drawers & Hangers
This is a wonderful antique streamer truck/chest for doll's clothes. A toy most girls had to have at the turn of the 20th century. I'm not sure how old the trunk is. It is made of thin metal over wood and the metal reacts to a magnet. The trunk has a center key lock(non working) and 2 metal clasp brass colored steel(magnetic) All 4 corners have the same brass colored metal with tacks. There is a black metal band along the center edge with grommets or tacks. A leather strap embossed with the number 22 allows for easy carrying by an adult as the trunk weighs 16 pounds when empty. The handle is sturdy but has light surface cracks. In its upright position. The trunk opens to a wooden interior with 3 stacked drawers and a side for hanging the clothes. It does come with the 7 original wooden hangers(one is missing from the picture) The ... moredrawers can be removed and are stack-able within the trunk space. Slight loss of the blue paint on the edges of the right side. The trunk measures 22" tall x 12" x 12" There is a blank metal tag on the top near the handle. This trunk has been part of my family since I can remember. I believe that my father had it in the early 1930's but can't verify that. It could be older or newer. It measures 23" high. 19"wide and 34" long. The trunk is made of some type of metal with wooden stays. It has decorative tin type on the top and front. The lock has no key. It reads- Yale& Towne Mfg. Co/ shamrock around the keyhole with Y& T/ Stanford Conn. U.S.A. AB The round top has 5 wooden stays. 4 on the front and back and 3 on the bottom. The rollers are in working condition. The inside has no tray or decorations. As you can see. The inside of the top has some crayon marks(probably from my sister! a small crack by the hinge, and two strips of duct tape on the bottom that can easily be removed. Antique Wood Chest Small Trunk Fabric Covered Worcester Metal Goods Co. Lock Key
The box measures 15.5" x 8.5" x 7.5" and is in good condition for its age. I do not know the maker of the box but the hardware is made by Worcester Metal Goods Co. It is very sturdy and the hinges are holding up well. The fabric is very soft but I am not sure what material it is. It is tearing at some of the edges but is mostly intact. It looks like only one nail is missing and I think it just held the fabric in the corner in place. All of the rivets for the hardware are original and intact. The lock is a little tight but it works well and has the key. The inside feels similar to wallpaper and has some wear and discoloring but is in pretty good shape. Feel free to ask questions. The smaller of the 2 wood chests is estimated to be from the late 1920s to 1930, and the larger wood chest is late 1800s to early 1920s. A nice lot for collecting or restoring and re-selling.
