THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. 30s Art Deco Heirloom Wood Roos Sweetheart Cedar Chest w/ Tray Insert Excellent!
Vintage 30s Roos Cedar Chest This is a gorgeous heirloom quality Roos Sweetheart cedar chest from the late 1930s. This Roos chest was made in Forest Park. IL. The chest is made of Claro Walnut, Striped Walnut and Black Walnut. The inside of the chest is aromatic Red Cedar. The cedar chest is still quite aromatic, it has a special sealite lid to prevent the escape of the protective cedar fumes. The chest measures 47-1/4" long, it is 23" tall and 18-1/4" deep. It has a cedar tray on the inside which is 10" deep. The cedar chest is in excellent condition, the wood is rich and it gleams. On close inspection it shows a few vintage scuffs, mainly where the back edge would rub against the wall when opened, but nothing outstanding and it shows no abuse. The inside looks like new. There is a lock on the chest but I do not have ... morea key. This chest comes from a smoke free and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Buyers are welcome to ask for other forms of payment. Local pick up is welcomed. I live in South Bend. Indiana close to Interstate 80. I would also be willing to deliver within 100 miles for a reasonable delivery fee. THE YALE AND TOWNE LOCK DOES WORK AND IS FUNCTIONAL.THE BRASS LOCK HAS GREAT WEIGHT AND FEEL AND LOOK. THE TRUNK LOCKS UP VERY SECURE LIKE FORT KNOX. I HAVE A FULLY FUNCTIONING KEY THAT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL KEY BUT WAS MADE BY A LOCKSMITH TO WORK. THE KEY DOES WORK BUT YOU DO HAVE TO WIGGLE AND SLIDE IN AND OUT A BIT TO UNLOCK. Contents of chest not included! This si an antique hope chest bench. Solid wood with cedar lining. pad bun feet with decorative wood trim on sides and oval in center. wood bench style back of trunk is about 3" high with carved design, the skeleton key lock is original hardware( no key is included) the hinges appear to have been tampered with, lost some nails and replaced, original screws in cedar lining(top and inside of trunk) this would look gorgeous with some love, there are a few paint drips on top as shown, there is wear to bottom of feet, top edge of seat/ chest and top of back design. there is also a faint but short note written in pen on inner edge. please note vintage and used items may have been exposed to pets or smoke. thanks

This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. Cavalier- the Cadillac of Cedar Chests. The Cavalier Cedar Chests have been around for more than 70 years. These are among the best cedar chests and provide long lasting service. Produced in the 1930's by the Tennessee Furniture Company. Considering the age of this chest. The exterior and interior are in great condition. There are only several wear marks. There is a black spot on the lid(see photo) A lock is present, but I do not have a key. The two knobs shown at the bottom need tightening.
