I have done my best to describe this chest. It is very old and will contain the usual wear marks of typical everyday use. Nice clean interior. Scratches. Bumps& nicks apparant. It's actually very appealing to show the wear.tells a great story of all the years this trunk has seen! Periodically. You should empty the chest and gently rub the cedar lining with sythetic steel wool. This will remove oxidation and allow the fresh cedar oils to come to the surface. Appearances aside. This is still a great cedar hope chest by Lane. I believe it is from the 1940's. It measures 46" x 18" x 21"high. The pictures tell the story. But I will point out the issues. The Bad: Lock is missing. Veneer is scratched and chipped away in spots. The inside shelf is broken. One corner has separated and was badly repaired. The Good: It smells amazing. The back is pretty perfect. It's got great bones. The inside shelf has most of the working parts to get started on that repair. It will be a wonderful piece when it is restored to its former glory. vintage cedar lined hope chest/blanket box - 1900-1950, American, dark wood
This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. Vintage Rare Blonde 1962 LANE CEDAR HOPE/Blanket CHEST
This is a Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- mfg. date june 14 1962. this chest is in very good condition considering its age. Has a few minor spots on the outside but the inside is near mint condition. There is definitely nothing wrong with it, nothing that would make you say damn after you bought it. Due to safety regulations the lock or latch mechanism has been removed. It measures 43 1/4" long 16 3/4" wide and 19" in height. If pickup is possible it would be great, if not we will work out the details and how you would prefer to have it shipped. Lane Sock Cedar Chest ANtique Vintage
This is an unusual piece I cannot find another like in my research. But quite certain it is a factory piece and fyi, I picked it up about an hour away from its birthplace in Altavista, Virginia. I believe this was used for storing wool socks and other smaller garments from moths. I just wiped this off with a damp cloth. Leaving the final finish up to the new owner. The flaws are some scratching on the surface. Some edge splits(that could be glued) and a small chunk missing at the tip of the"foot" lid. Also. There are nail holes toward the top on each side evidencing there was a straight piece of cedar creating another section originally.but easily fixed. This cedar chest measures 32.5 long x 8 1/4 deep(not including the foot) x 7 inches high.

Cavalier VINTAGE pedestal style cedar hope chest with drawer at the bottom
This is an awesome vintage piece of furniture. It is a Cavalier cedar hope chest. It is pedestal style and stands off the ground. It has a bottom drawer. I have never seen one like this. There is no key. On the back it has a stamp that says chest and the best I can make out the numbers one set is 513 8609. But I cannot make out the second stamped set. This is absolutely beautiful and would be great for anyone that collects antiques and vintage items. There is the original paper on the inside of the lid that tells what it is and all about the wood that was used in making the item. This item is in really good condition given its apparent age. The inside looks like brand new. The lid on the front corner does have a chip taken out of it. Other than that there is some minor scratches that comes along with the age of the piece. Original antique/vintage Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. Date of manufacture is Serial# in reverse: 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also a few small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section(see 8th picture) where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. This might be able to be restored. The interior is in very good condition. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. Legs are solid and intact. At one point. The Lane Company issued a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock has been removed. Vintage 1920's Child's Nursery Rhyme Cedar Chest by Farley & Loetrocher
This is an adorable child's toy chest in cedar made by Farley& Loetrocher Mfg. Co. Dubuque, Iowa in the 1920's. The top of chest has a picture of the nursery rhyme characters from"The Cat and The Fiddle" depicting a cat playing a fiddle, a dog in a clown outfit, a cow jumping over the moon, and a dish running away with the spoon. Picture measures 5.5" x 3" The front of chest has a picture of three white rabbits eating from a large yellow bowl. This picture measures 3" x 2" Chest has a cedar handle on both sides and four decorative cedar feet. Chest measures 18" in length, 9.5" in width, and is 8" in height. This chest is in overall excellent condition and is structurally sound. Finish has subtle shade differences due to it's age which only enhance it's charm. This is an Ed. Roos Co. Cedar Chest which is great condition. The information below gives you information about the company and vintage era about this cedar chest. Cedar Chest by Ed. Roos Co. The Ed. Roos Co. manufactured quality cedar chests from about 1916 to 1951. Most of those years they were located in Forest Park. IL. They were very successful for a time and made a large quantity of cedar chests. Because of that they are not particularly scarce. They are, however, of very good quality and were manufactured in quite a few styles. The style and condition are the determining factors in value. The Art Deco"waterfall" style. It is. However, in better condition and would be worth about $200-$250. The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had ... moreseveral children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. They used a rooster in several variations in some of their logos. The"Ed Roos Company of Forest Park" started in Chicago as the Roos Cedar Chest Company in 1916. And also manufactured cedar chests, but it is a different company. They used a tree(presumably a cedar tree) in a circle as their logo. There are also other logos without the tree, and one with a heart for their"Sweetheart" chests. They also used a variety of paper and cardboard labels. It was started by Otto's brother. Edward. The company moved to Forest Park, IL in 1918 and changed its name to the Ed Roos Company of Forest Park In the 1920 federal census. Otto Roos is listed as President of a wooden wares business. So it is clear that the original Roos Manufacturing Company was still at work in 1920, after Ed Roos opened up shop in 1918 in Forest Park. IL- Far west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit ... moreof veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. Vintage early 30's Lane Cedar Quilt Hope Chest Clinton Iowa Tucker Furniture
This antique includes a great provenance. But please note that this is local pick-up only in Clinton, Iowa. This Lane cedar quilt chest was put only lay-away at the Tucker Furniture store in Clinton, Iowa, in 1933 by the then Opal Wells. The pictures show that there were several payments over the next year before finally redeeming the chest in time for her wedding to Larry Wiley in 1934. The original warranty card is also included as it was never actually mailed in. The chest stood at the foot of her bed for more than 50 years. There are some scratches on the top from wear over the years, but the rest of the piece is in beautiful condition. This is a special piece for the right local antique collector!

Here's a beautiful vintage ROOS Cedar chest with drawer and clock. Has some inlaid wood work on the front and top. The clock has the figures of the zodiac around it. The top seals with felt strips to fully seal the inside. The original warranty card is intact and boasted a cash reward if your clothes where damaged. There was 2 pieces of wood and 2 rollers inside the drawer as seen in the photos but I'm not sure they go to this chest. Some scratches but mostly in the varnish. local pickup in Elgin IL. Beautifuly Renewed Vintage 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest, Blanket/Storage Chest
Absolutely Beautiful Renewed 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest. This is a really amazing chest with fantastic colors. Beautiful decor and is in great condition. It's a solid chest. Very well built and has stood the test of time exceptionally well. Overall, the chest is in outstanding shape considering its been around since before the big war. All the trim pieces are fully intact. The hinges are tight, the ornate feet are very secure, the inside is perfect and very aromatic. There are a few small pieces of veneer missing. One on the top right hand end, a very small piece on the top left side and a few slight chips across the back. I don't replace veneer but I do stain the underlying layer of veneer so the missing pieces don't stand out so much. This chest was definitely taken care of through the years and with good care it should remain ... morebeautiful for many years to come. This is truly a rare heirloom piece that would look great in any home. This chest has been renewed by numerous hours of polishing to remove the surface scratches and smooth out the deeper damage. After the polishing process. I rub it with rejuvenating oils then spray a few coats of clear to preserve the new-found beauty. What results is a chest that looks years younger. It does have a few minor chips and dings that you expect from such an old chest but they don't stand out after the renewing process. The lock has been disabled due to a Lane recall. 48" wide. 20.5" tall and 19" deep Serial# 236111. Built November 16 1932 The pics look good but I don't think they do it justice. A vintage Lane Cedar Chest. Style 48787. This chest does not have a self-locking lock AND IS NOT RECALLED-it has to be locked with a key. Key is lost. The chest stands 24 inches. Maximum dimensions are 48 X 20 inches. The storage area is about 45 X 18 X 12 inches. The case is mahogany and the box is, of course, lined in cedar. Lane imprint on inside lid; style number is stenciled on bottom. Chest is in good condition, but there are scratches, scuffs on the finish and some repairs. The leg repair is very professional and we've had the chest for over 30 years and had no trouble with the repair. The cedar lining is in excellent condition and still aromatic. Chest is sturdy.
