Antique Trunk Hardware Lot of 79 Trunk/ Suitcase Latches.These latches measure roughly 1 1/2" high by 1 1/4" wide. The 32 latches on the bottom row have no spring. The 24 latches on the middle row have springs. The 23 pieces on the top row are the latch tops. I do not know if the tops fit the bottoms as these all came to me like this. I believe these are all steel. And many have some corrosion on them. This auction is what you see is what you get. Thank you.

Antique R.H. John Galvaston Trunk Factory Stagecoach travel trunk
This is an antique R.H.John Galveston Trunk Factory stagecoach trunk from between 1880's- to no later than 1910. I could not find anything like it for comparison to get a better date. The trunk is made of metal. Wood and canvas coverings both inside and out. It has a red wash on it, so it was done right and appears to be original. It looks really good, but does have some dents along the side/edge fixtures, a small dent in bottom metal base, some tearing of the inside canvas, mostly along sides, is missing an inside wooden brace that would have possibly held a top box, has some staining spots on inside lid, has an outside tear of the canvas along a side edge about 3-4 inches long(pictured) the outer leather straps are worn, but still strong enough to lift it, there is an inner strap that is broken and 2 long cracks of the inner wood bottom ... morethat does not show through to metal bottom. There are wood slats along the top, bottom, and sides. Please ask for more pictures if you need to see more. This is heavy for it's size-over 37 pounds. It is 41 1/2 inches long, 20 3/4 inches wide and 13 inches deep.

Pre Civil War Antique, All Leather Steamer Trunk. Rare Find!!
For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. The inside of the trunk had an incredibly rare drop down compartment with a green envelope type thing attached with gold trim decoration ... moreand logo. Again you will not find a trunk like this. Antique Semi-Dome Top Trunk Simple semi-dome top trunk. Slight dome. But not as pronounced as some of the other high dome models. Copper buttons which are fairly rare are all intact and in good condition. Nice rich colors, new handles, simple flower pattern interior. No tray in this one, but a very nice trunk overall in excellent condition. Circa 1870's. Dimensions are 30" wide x 20" deep x 20" tall. Shipping is FREE via Greyhound Freight. Antique Steamer Trunk Camelback ORIGINAL 1830. Nautical, Leather/Pine.
With something this old you'll have to read the pictures to gather your own information. It's structurally sound inside and out. No rotting! The paper and artwork inside are still fully intact. It has a few dings here and there but would be an absolute simple restoration. All parts are original. There is a barely visible engraving on some of the latches that read" PAT. DEC.23.7" The leather handle strap on the left side is missing and the main latch is bent a little bit. But other than that its fully useable. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Civil War Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and a hidden compartment in the top of lid. My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished Civil War trunk with a small amount of a dome in the top of lid. Imagine what this trunk has been through being used during the Civil War time in our history's past. The particular d imensions for this are 30" length. 17" width and 17" heig ht. This particular trunk would be a nice trunk for a college student. Or a wonderful place to store keepsakes. We refinished this particular trunk by taking ... moreoff the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. The inside of the trunk was built with the rough cut appeal so we sanded finely to leave the natural look. A fter t his. We applied Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the trunk a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Attached to the lid of this trunk we applied two new chain stays so it will remain opened when wanted. On the inside of th e lid you will find a secret compartment. It folds down so you can store small things in there. Working the way down to the b ottom of the trunk you will notice that it is in wonderful shape. With no holes or cracks in the wood. A rather stunning early 19th century table box in the fashionable chinoiserie style. The box is made of hardwood and comprises a detachable front panel which incorporates its original 19th century chinese brass lever lock. The panel is lacquered and gilt painted with figures in a garden setting interspersed with buildings. The detachable panel encloses an arrangement of seven drawers and an open recess. Each drawer with its own brass pendant handle in the chinese style and the bottom drawer with a secret escutcheon and lock. To the sides the box has a rich patina and two brass carry handles with handle rests beneath. The corners are bound with brass braces. Measures 50cm wide by 53 cm tall. It was also a trunk you could safely have loaded on an old steam locomotive train. Looks original. I do not see where someone re-furbished it. Has the original#35 key. Big brass lock works just as it should. Inside there is a leather pouch for papers& documents. Trunk shows wear from use; otherwise very good trunk that could still make another trip. Leather hand-holds on the ends are gone. A few shipping stickers that are hard to read. There is part of a sticker that came off in a plastic bag. Inside. The trunk has a faint smell of moth ball. Killarney ware marquetry box stunningly decorated in intricate marquetry depicting Muckross Abbey on the lid with shamrocks around it. The sides are decorated with shamrock motifs. Inside the lid is a harp motif. Many woods have been used including walnut. Yew, boxwood, satinwood, and more. Provenance: the box was acquired in a Cardiff house clearance and had apparently been acquired by a forbear named Williams. Written in pencil on the base is"Muckross Abbey. September 1895 MAW. After apprenticing from his father in 1791. In 1830 Thomas Milner founded the firm Thomas Milner and Son in Liverpool. It would become the foremost English safe company of the 19th century. Early on in his career his clients included the Duke of Wellington and the English War Office. Milner safes are also known to have been aboard the Titanic. Milner was a pioneer in the development of the fire resistant safe(thus the phoenix stamp) and much involved in the taking out of patents. These fire resistant safes were developed by adding an inner body and filling in the space inbetween with a compond which would insulate the contents and emit moisture which lowered the flash point of any paper contents. He demonstrated the excellence of his safes by placing them in the centre of huge bonfires. Milner later emerged with Chatwood nearly 100 years later and were subsequently brought by Chubb in 1962.

Early 19th Century Blanket Chest, Black Paint with Painted Floral Design
I bought this chest almost 40 years ago. I am not a dealer in furniture and this is the only early American piece that I have. I was told it is an early 19th century blanket chest made in Pennsylvania. What I like about the chest is the painted floral design on the top and the fact that it is large and great storage. A hinged box is built in to hold candles. And are slots underneath them that were probably used for valuables. It measures 25" high, 51" long and 23" wide. Forged iron hinges allows the top to be opened and closed. The iron handles on the side are solid and can be used to lift and move the chest. Now that I have moved. I do not have room for this chest. Metal-covered, round-top trunk that dates from the late 1800's. The trunk has a beautiful metal design of berries and vines. The inside has been lined with a nice victorian design fabric. All of the hardware is original, but the handles have been replaced. No key for the lock and unfortunately even if you had a key it would not lock. At some time in it's history someone has removed the loops from the back of the double lock(see pictures for detail) and it will no longer lock. This doesn't really take away from the beauty of the trunk and since you can still fasten the top of the trunk with it's latches there's no ... moreneed to lock it anyway. These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. But I had taken the picture in October and was trying to match nail holes with actual pieces. too lazy to take new pictures) Sizes are approximate: 4- slats 18” 2- slats 17 ½” 1 slat 17” These were the best of the lot. Nice Ancient Antique Doll Trunk & Early Doll
This auction is for a wonderful(ancient) antique doll trunk(and it is older than the hills) and it also comes with a neat early stocking cloth doll as well. This nice old antique paper covered wooden doll trunk measures 10" x 6 1/4" and it is 5 1/2" tall and as you can see it is so old that the paper on the outside is in very rough condition- the top part of the lock has broken off- and it is pretty worn around the edges- even so it is a fantastic very early trunk. What is left of the scene on this paper covered trunk looks so fascinating and I can see a big round zodiac sign with the months of the year surrounding it on the back and it also has lots of people all around it too on the paper as well. I can make out the words on the front at the bottom e Lion. Carr- but the rest of the words are missing. The inside is pretty ... moreneat and clean and when you open it up the cover sits kind of crooked at a slight angle. Even in this condition it is a great find and it displays so beautifully. Most likely RailRoad, has old stickers from traveling from state to state but there hard to read do to being old, weathered and in poor condition. Has owners name painted on side of trunk and below name Cincinnati, Ohio. Inside has blue maker tag, most of the tag is missing. Trunk is in Fair to Good condition, trunk is solid with no wood rot, All the cast hardware is good, cast iron and brass lock, some of the cast iron hardware is ornate and of good quality for the time. Front latch locks have a midevil look. Missing one wheel but the caster that holds the wheel is good. Trunk has paint loss, scuffs and scratches, rips in material, rust ect. Measures approx. 38 3/4" wide x 23" tall x 22" deep. Flat top will make ... morenice rustic coffee table. Inside has one tray, seems little small, not sure if it goes with this trunk. Miscellaneous chrome plated trunk parts which I purchased about 30 years ago for reasons I don't remember. There are two locks stamped Eagle Lock Co. Terryville, Conn. USA. No key. There are two large corners and several strap hold-downs and two leather carrying handles. The handles, being leather, do show some age, but the rest of the parts look very nice. I think they chrome plated things better back when. The little pointed items, I think are ends for a robe rope for the back of a seat in a model A or such as that. Refinished Monitor Top Waterfall Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With 2 Locks &Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Monitor Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray Here we have finished a lovely. Fancy monitor top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 39 inches. From floor to top is 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 1/2 inches. This beautiful monitor top gets it's name from the late 1800's USS Monitor warship. It was a metal clad frigot that must have had this type of shape to it. Anyhow. This trunk has the waterfall or Deco style edge at the top. It is really neat how the trunk maker made the slat boards bend down around the edges. It is a pretty steep bend and it is incredible how they can make the boards conform to it back then. This beautiful trunk consists of rough cut pine and oak base wood with ... moreoak or ash outer slat boards. A lot of the boards are not planed down, they are straight off the saw mill and have the saw blade markings on them. If you look at the close up picture of the top, there are some boards on the top that are wormwood in which there are little holes here and there on the boards. You may seem some in the picture. A lot of antique collectors like to find furniture that has this type of wood on them. The wood has been prepared and finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect the wood and give it a nice appearance. This trunk comes with a lot of fancy metal hardware and a very nice feature are the factory double locks which do work and are signed. They are signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work both of these locks, so you can store your items under lock and key away from others if you want to do so. The center latch is also original and does work properly since the springs in intact. These monitor tops only come about for us to refinish in a ratio of about 80 to 1 in which we only get about 2 or so a year to do. Antique Trunk Hardware Heavy Solid Brass Trunk Lock w/ Key by Hillebrand& Wolf. Lock plate measures 3 1/4 by 4 1/2. Hasp measures 3 3/4 by 3 3/4. This lock has a very rare locking mechanism. It is one of the few trunk locks that will lock without using the key. This is accomplished by a spring loaded locking pin. However. Whats more unusual than that, is what can be called a safety latch. Inserting the hasp into the lock, locks the trunk, but you can use the key to turn the latch even more, which is a secondary locking position. This made it harder for thieves to pick the lock. Rare Antique Gold Rush Stagecoach Trunk, 1860's, tray, key, Restored and Lined
A beautiful and rare stagecoach or"gold rush" style American trunk made from about the mid 1860's to 1870. It measures 31 1/2 inches wide. 20 inches tall, 18 inches deep. Made of thick pine with metal banding and hardwood slats, attached with dozens of large brass buttons! A fabulous and impressive looking trunk which is very hard to find with six bands and in such great condition. The original lock is complete with the fancy brass cover and working key. The handles are the original style, sliding arrow design, attached with the original holders and brass buttons. A new all wood tray was made which makes the trunk much more useful inside. It was thoroughly cleaned out and relined with nice quality fabric in blue and off-white colors. Hand-forged iron. The hasp and wood on the front latch are old, but later additions to replace the original lock which is gone. I would guess the green paint is about 100 years old. There is msutard yellow and light blue showing thru the chippy surface. There are normals signs of age. This trunk is in very good shape for age, with complete inside trays and all hardware operating properly. Has several decals throughout from C&F. Trunk is covered in leather on the outside, which from age has cracked and broken or been worn off in several places. If used as a decorative piece, this really adds to the charm of the piece. Unfortunately, both handles on the side have been broken off, and the trunk does have a musty odor inside. Sold as shown. Too protect the outer leather surface from any more damage.
