I purchased this in ... morethe Amish area of Pennsylvania about 30 years ago. It is in the same condition as it was when I purchased it. It is complete with the tray and the top has a compartment with a hinged door. The inside and the tray have been lined with wallpaper- beautifully done. To the best of my knowledge. All of the leather is original. It has the original Brass Lock with a star pattern. The key is included and the trunk does lock. The trunk automically locks when you close the lid. If the key is not present. The key must be in the lock and turned to the unlocked position to open the trunk. Measures approximately 30" Wide(without the side straps) by 17" Deep by 15" High. Stained a Medium Brown- Base is made from Pine with Oak Slats. It does have a crack on the top. But to me, this just adds to its appeal. Other than a few very minor scratches. Which I did not remove. ... moreGermany and Scotland. Has a wonderful cloth pattern on the outside similar to L. Vitton trunks. Features 4 drawers and a wardrobe area to hang cloths. The drawers lock into place and are lined, wood on the outside. The top drawer has a key lock(not included) When you pull out the drawer, there is a leaver that you turn which unlocks the other drawers. The wardrobe side includes the hangers shown(5) and the top opens to ease in getting the hangers out. the metal slats for the hangers to slide out as well, however the right one is hard to push. Has a fabric cloth to cover the clothes from the drawers. This is a large heavy truck, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. The top(picture 6) shows the rip in the fabric. Has two tags on it. First is the Hartman Trunk co, Racine, WI. The other is on the corner and says Wasseman's, Grand Rapids, MI. That means this trunk went from the United States to Germany, then to Scotland and back to the United States. Measures 40" tall, 22" wide and 21 1/2" deep. Shipping is quoted with UPS. You would have to look hard to find a better restored origianl Genny Lind stagecoach trunk. This mid 1800s trunk has had a great restoration including new leather straps and buckles on the outside. Lovely quilted interior. And beatiful restoration of the tooled leather covering. And it does not smell! On the interior it still sports the wood restraining flap that would allow you to fill that side of the trunk and then close it without everything falling out. See the last 2 photos Petite size approximately 20" long. 13.5" wide and 9" deep. A kind and knowledgeable ebayer just added this info. the actual name for one of these is a valise. They used to put that on many of the old labels. Such as trunk, valise, and carpet bag manufacturer. condition. 19th Century Metal Bound STAGE COACH TRUNK Refinished JENNY LIND Style Lock
Beautiful Refinished 19th Century Stage Coach Trunk Solid Wood. Was covered on the outside w/ paper, but most of paper was gone paper was cleaned off. And trunk was sanded, and finished leather straps were added to the trunk. Original ones were gone I chose these straps. As the design on them was much like that of the original paper: The handle on the left side(when facing the front) is the original handle. Amazingly still very sturdy, the other is a replacement, matches very well The loop at the top above the lock is a replacement. Matches the handles The lock could presumably be made to work again. But doesn't at this time, I don't have the key either The lock is beautiful. It is a Jenny Lind style lock, very intricate and beautifully designed The inside is totally lined with leather. I chose this instead of paper or fabric since ... moreso many trunks from this century were covered with leather, I thought it would be awesome to have one lined with it instead, makes it unique and luxurious: The leather lining also has two very functional pockets on the back side. Inside, that are very useful for holding small items you might place in your trunk! measurements are 31in x 16in& 17.5 tall excellent condition!

Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Mid 1800s Jenny Lind Trunk
Recently restored Jenny Lind Trunk. Dimensions are as follows: 24x14x14. Original parts located on this trunk included brass tacks and trunk lock.Lock does not contain key. Only item that is not original is cloth that keeps trunk open. Handle on one side of the trunk is not as long as the other. I suspect it was torn at one point. I wanted to keep the trunk as original as possible, so I did not replace handles. You can appreciate this in the pictures. Trunk does show its age, as there is minor cracking in the wood, and other small dents, dings, and bruises. Trunk is structurally, sound however. Beautiful Refinished Antique Jenny Lind Style Trunk With Straps. Working Lock& Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really beautiful completely refinished Jenny Lind steamer trunk or travel chest from the mid 1800's and it is signed on the bottom in painted calligraphy with black paint of the owner's name and the county in Pennsylvania that he lived. Take a look at the picture of the bottom and you will see this beautiful signature. We think it is"James Selle" or something like that and it says. Mifflintown Juniata County" which is about 1 1/2 hours from our house and it is where we purchased this trunk to refinish. It is kind of neat to know who probably originally owned this trunk about 150 years ago. Anyhow, here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 26 inches, from floor to top is ... moreapproximately 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/4 inches. This is a Jenny Lind trunk as we have mentioned before in other ads. These Jenny Linds came about because of the opera singer from Europe. She traveled overseas to come to America to perform and she had beautiful trunks to carry her luggage in. The American trunk makers noticed the beautiful style and started making trunks with that look here in America for customers. It is the slice of bread shape on the side where the top angles in along with the base angling in towards the top. Also it has the metal banding with the decorative buttons or rosettes. These are notorious for the Jenny Lind style. The trunk dates back to somewhere around 1860 or so. The wood is in very nice condition. It has been finished with three coats of polyurethane to preserve it and give it a nice appearance. A lot of times, there is a big crack or gap going across the top on these older trunks because of wood shrinkage. This one only has a small hairline stress crack on the top which is very common on older trunks that we refinish. And he resided with his parents until he was nineteen. In 1849 he made an overland trip to California, where he remained two years. In 1853 he made another trip to California, where he remained several months. Arriving at the Mecca of his desires, CALIFORNIA, he became a part of that unwritten chapter of romantic history which thrilled the country, and for two years lived in the ribald camps of the Argonauts, taking something from the earth(GOLD) in reward for his toil and self-sacrifice, participating for ... moreseveral months in the pagan pleasure of life and the romantic zest for adventure which characterized the surroundings of the fortune(GOLD) seekers. As before, his good fortune was in no way exceptional, adding but little to his financial resources. He engaged extensively in general farming and stock-raising attaining to special prominence as a Short-horn cattle breeder, in which he first became interested before the Civil War. For a number of years he was President of the Schuyler County Farmers' Institute, and took a keen interest in its affairs. With the founding of the Bank of Schuyler in 1890, he became one of the stock-holders, and later was elected Vice-President of that institution. On his death, October 22, 1902, at the age of seventy-two years he was the owner of 1,200 acres of farm land, besides various town properties in Rushville. Up for consideration is Antique"Jenny Lind" old Stage Coach Traveling Trunk or Steam Trunk. It has the inner tray. This item is in original aged condition at present-These trunks look simply beautiful when restored and polished up. Item is structurally sound and made of oak and pine covered with a leather exterior with steel bands going around it. It has brass buttons and a old iron lock face on the front. The leather handles are missing on the ends and the lock is non-operational. And without a key. When we found this item it was full of old personal items. Bonnets and papers. The bottom was lined with the paper shown in the picture. It was published in Jackson Ohio in 1894. Up for bid is a great little 19th century antique pine trunk. Originally manufactured in Baltimore. MD, by"Jas. H. Kiningham" at the"Trunk& Bag Manufactory" at 68 N. Gay. St. The trunk, probably originally having either paper or leather that covered the presently refinished pine exterior, is all but gone. Other than a slight bit of dust, this trunk is in fine condition and has all it's original paper liner inside, as well as a hidden compartment in the lid, along with a colorful picture on the door or flap. An original paper label still is intact at the bottom interior of the trunk. The trunk sits on four iron wheels and rolls easily. The shape resembles that of a loaf of bread, so given the name of a"Breadloaf" truck. There is a hasp-like clasp on the front, but no key. The trunk has a domed top with front to back metal banding and brass studs and hardwood horizontal slats. The trunk has its original steel lock. The trunk has provenance with the name in Braille on the bottom left of the lid. It is J. Bagnall& Sons. The Trunk was made in England from 1850- 1860. Antique 1850's Rare Jenny Lind Trunk with Black metal banding and Brass, #265
Here is a beautiful Jenny Lind trunk from the Civil War period. Jenny Lind trunks are scarce. These were the top model trunks from any trunk maker of the day. They took quite a bit more work to put together and sold for a premium. Jenny Lind trunks were named after the Swedish singer who toured the U.S. in the early 1850's with P.T. Barnum. Known as the"Swedish Nightingale" she is said to have had a trunk like this one with her and they became all the rage for several years. They have a beautiful keyhole or figure eight shape. Most of the trunks like this were made in New England and are each a little different and hand made. The trunk has a beautiful interior with a lid door to store items and an interior shelf. There is scaring of the finishing material of the interior tray shelf sided where it comes in contact with side hinge ... morestrap. All that needs to be done is trimming of covering where rubbing is occurring. This will expose a beautiful wood finish. This is a very rare trunk. No key is provided and the pull over strap to engage lock is not present as shown.

Wow! Cabin/ beach/ cottage/ loft/ apartment: Coffee table possibility! From the internet: In 1850. Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale" came to America and had a two year concert tour. She had trunks which were made in London which were soon copied by trunk makers all over America, which we now refer to as Jenny Lind trunks. They were usually leather covered, with several iron or Brass bands around the trunk, fastened with large brass studs, and they curved in at the center.They are often called Bread loaf trunks. These trunks were often very decorative with brass locks, fancy tooled leather and elaborate interiors with paper lining and trimmings. Models made with brass banding are referred to as"brass bound" Jenny Linds. They were so popular that the style continued until the 1870s in many sizes and varieties, including doll ... moretrunks. Some also refer to these trunks as"stagecoach" trunks as they were also used for stagecoach travel. This is very unusual trunk looks like it was made in the 1800s. It was discovered in the attic of an 1836. NY farmhouse. We have no patents or dates to verify its actual age; however. Given the materials, the condition, and the style we are quite certain of this statement. It could be older. If you are an expert on trunks, and recognize this particular style, please let us know. He will be happy to incorporate any additional information in our listing. The stagecoach trunk has brass decorations on metal straps. It has some leather straps still remaining. One leather side handle is still present. We believe the original leather hinges were replaced at some time with the metal ones you see. Based on our examination of the area and discoloration around the hinges. One of the four is only half there. We do not have the key for the lock. Made of bent wood and in excellent condition. The key plate appears to be brass. Overall very good condition for its age. Photo 5 shows the back of the truck, the leather is water stained and I do not know if the hinges there are original to the piece Interior is fair condition. These old Jenny Lend trunk. Leather coverings came from a trunk whose lock has a patent date of 1799. The 1st picture provided is of the leather covering for this trunk's lid end. It measures about 16.5" x 11.5" The 2nd piece covered the front of the Jenny Lind trunk and measures about 27.5" x 13.5" The rectangular piece cut from the top. Center of this piece is where the trunk lock was installed. The leather piece shown in the 3rd picture provided measures about 28.5" x 22" Note the geometric. Hand"tooling" in these pieces. Square-sided Jenny Lind doll trunk. Professionally restored including 28 porcelain tacks resting on ornate brass. The dimensions are 12 x 7 x 7. Outside has been lightly sanded and hand-rubbed with tung oil. The trunk has brass dust cover strip, original handles, and brass lock(non-working) The inside has been covered with cloth reflecting the era and has a small print of old-fashioned ladies on the inside of the lid. Antique Civil War Soldier Jenny Lind Trunk Rare Stamped Eagle W/Key in its talons E.T. Fitch is marked on the side also has markings to a new haven Railroad on the sticker on side. Trunks is all original as found condition a great reenactment piece. The lock has an eagle stamped with a skeleton type key in its talons it may have been a military issued trunk. I've found and sold over 200 jenny lind trunks this is only the 2nd I've ever seen with an eagle stamped into the acorn shaped door over the keyhole. Extremely Rare 1840's to 1850's 20" Jenny Lind Antique Trunk
This amazing trunk is a 20" Jenny Lind from the late 1840's to early 1850's. Originally covered in leather. The wood underneath is beautiful! This trunk is covered with over 130 lead filled Brass head nails that have a unique shape. This trunk has a very unusual size, and shape, but I do not believe it was a child's or toy trunk. It is simply a small, ornate travel trunk that measures 20" long, 11" wide, and 12" tall. You can see from the before picture that the original handles have been faithfully reproduced by me. The lock is original, works great, and has a key. The paper interior is a reproduction I made of the original cloth interior. I did not put in a lid stay as this trunk does not need one as the brass head nails on the box meet the ones on the lid to stop the lid. Antique Brass Bound Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Civil War Era
This is a very uncommon"brass-bound" Jenny Lind trunk. Jenny Lind trunks are named for the Swedish singer Jenny Lind who toured the United States from 1850-1852. They are identified by their"loaf-of-bread" shape when seen end-on. Most Jenny Lind Trunks were wrapped in steel bands with brass buttons. Less-commonly. They were wrapped in brass-bands or, in this case, steel bands wrapped in brass sheeting. This trunk is also distinctive in that the top curves front-to-back and side-to-side; most Jenny Linds curve front-to-back only. This trunk probably dates to the Civil War period as it was originally covered in paper. It has all its buttons. Which is uncommon for a Jenny Lind(these buttons are steel) It has its original lock plate and hasp(though the lock does not work and there is no key. Note the last photo is a composite ... morewhich shows the lockplate from behind and the hasp) The trunk also has its original wooden handles and metal handle loops. The trunk was missing its tray and upper door when I got it; I have remade these with wood from an historic home torn down near here which has been planed to the appropriate thickness. I have done some other repair work to make it functional and sanded down the wood. I have not applied any finish; will leave that to the buyer. The trunk has some issues. As you will see from the photos. Some of the brass banding has torn away. There is a crack across the lid(which does not affect it structurally) The trunk has had several sets of hinges over the years. The wood is chipped, dented, discolored, worn, and very dry. It is a true antique and will have to be treated as such- carefully. Please ask all questions before bidding. Shipping in the lower 48 Unites States only. Trunk will be well-wrapped and boxed. Rare Antique Jenny Lind/Stagecoach Trunk, ca 1860, Restored
For your consideration is a fully restored antique Jenny Lind/stagecoach trunk from the mid 1800's. This trunk has an embossed leather covering. The leather was in very good condition. Therefore it was cleaned and shined. There is a small amount of leather missing on the lower right corner. The brass buttons were cleaned(all original) and the metal straps were returned to their original green color. Side handles are original but one handle strap needed replacing. It comes with its original brass plated working lock with key. Please note the unusual acorn shaped keyhole cover. The interior was stripped of its worn paper and replaced with fabric as pictured. It is very rare to find a 150 year old trunk with its original leather. All brass buttons, interior tray and leather side handles. This small trunk measures 22" wide X 14" ... moredeep X 13" high. Lovely Refinished Jenny Lind Style Trunk - Perfect Wedding Gift
Up for auction today we have a lovely refinished Jenny Lind Style Antique trunk. Dating to the late 1860's. Wow, that is old. This trunk was originally leather covered and the dried leather was removed to highlight the nice wood underneath. Sanded smooth several times and then treated with Tung Oil and clear satin urethane- the wood shines and looks terrific. Inside has been stripped of the old paper and freshly lined with soft green cotton fabric. The handles have been replaced with thick leather handles and nice strong endcaps from the same period. Trunk is solid but not too heavy. About 15 pounds and measures 30 x 17 x 16- great size for a corner of a room or at the foot of a bed. Trunks make great wedding gifts and birthday gifts. It absolutely amazes me that this item is over 130 years old and still has years of use left. I love ... moretrunks and have been refinishing trunks and collecting for over 20 years now. Stress cracks here and there, but does not deter from trunk character- this trunk is in excellent shape. Wonderful copper buttons also on outside- four metal bands, nice front lock plate. SMOKE FREE HOME Rare 1800's Jenny Lind Stage-Coach Steamer Trunk. Has Jenny Lind Hourglass Shape with 5 Bands. Named after the Swedish Singer Jenny Lind that Toured with the P.T. Jenny Lind Antique Child-Size Stagecoach Trunk ~ Salesman Sample Doll Furniture
On offer is this antique child or doll-size Jenny Lind stagecoach trunk. In the classic hourglass or"loaf of bread" shape, measuring 12" x 7¼" The box looks like pine wood and is in good solid condition. The leather banding is in fair condition. But looks quite aged and crackled, with some small sections missing(see photos) The hinges are good. There is no inside tray. This style of trunk is named after Jenny Lind. The"Swedish Nightingale, an opera singer who became a superstar first in Europe, and then toured America with P.T. Barnum in the 1850s, sparking a craze rivaling that of Elvis and the Beatles a century later. Furniture, household items, a ship, a type of locomotive, schools, streets. And even a town were named after her.

Rare. 5 Brass band Jenny Lind travel trunk. This trunk has slats as well that are not seen very often on Jenny Lind trunks. Original brass hiding keyhole cover, and working lock with key. Hand stitched leather handles and lid lifter with very rare brass American flag Shield handle covers with the word UNION on them.
