This late 1800's CHILD'S STEAMER TRUNK would have possibly held its' clothes and undoubtedly held its' familiar treasures which made it feel more comfortable on a long journey. Part of the travels of this trunk's owner would have been by sea as well as land. As evidenced by the many travel decals on the outside of the metal steamer trunk. From Egypt, Australia, Holland, etc. This child was a world traveler. The reinforced metal trunk measures 11 X 11 X 20 inches. Has four pull-out drawers and one side of the trunk is a place for coats and clothes, or possibly a favorite doll or bear. The trunk was produced by EDUCATIONAL PLAYTHINGS; their label is on the lock side of the trunk. Ladies Saratoga Trunk" Otherwise known as a"Barrel Stave Top" or"Dome Top" This style of trunk is quite often mistakenly referred to as a steamer trunk; steamer trunks are a maximum of 14" tall and flat. A bit rough. Someone removed the lock portion of the main latch. It is an unusual double latch design. The compartment lid inside has broken and been repaired. Corner wear, some surface rust and oxidation. Leather handles broke off and were replaced with some very heavy duty brass handles a long time ago. The brass handles appear to be quite old. One of the cast strap clamps is broken yet all there. There is some damage to the tin clad skin. Original lining is cracked and torn in places. It appears to be all original with the exception of the handles ... moreand has not been painted(painting these trunks takes away from their value significantly) I'm sure I'm missing something so please look at the photos carefully and ask questions! The trunk is covered with brown leather which has a beautiful warm patina. It is bound with brass corners and corners straps, and has brass handles with large backplates on each side. The front has two brass locks and latches. The front and both sides each have a row of copper studs running between the corner straps. The hinged lid opens to a fabric lined interior. The trunk measures 22"w x 20"h x 20"d. Condition: Aside from minor wear. Rubbing and small stains to the leather, the trunk is in very good-excellent condition. 1870's Freemason's Uniform trunk. The outside is covered with the"Western Squares" paper. Some small areas where paper is missing or stained. Adds to the look. Inside is also papered and sectioned. The leather carrying strap is missing due to age. Tin hardware. Metal strapping. At the one end of the piece is the original owner's name, I believe. It reads"H.E. Whittenberg-Davenport, PA. Delion measures about 17 inches wide by 14 inches deep and 15.5 inches tall This is a great historical piece that was designed to accommodate extremely fine hat(s)A Delion Chapeliers an important manufacturer and retailer of some of the world's finest hats in the 19th and 20th centuries. There are stamps(glued on paper) documenting the travels all around the trunk- more than I had room to upload photos for also many spot where the other stamps have come off It has the original handle that has come off the top. The handle itself is ripped and the strap that holds it down on one side is also missing. It definitely shows its age and use with discoloration and stains. The top looks as though something were spilled on it raising the finish of the leather? as it feels rough to the ... moretouch. The inside of the trunk is lined. I believe all the tie down straps are intact. You can also see the wear where the inside back hinges are- it still opens and shuts fine but there is break through of the lining and materials. Lovely Antique,Primitive Salesman Sample Trunk Or Child's Trunk Late 1800's
I have up for sale today a lovely old trunk. I do not know if it is a salesman sample or a child's trunk. It measures 14 inches across. 8 1/2 inches deep and 10 inches tall at the highest point. It is estimated that this trunk was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's condition is pretty good considering it's age. The original leather handles,usually missing in a trunk so old, is still intact. The interior appears to be all original. Still containing the original tray, something that does not usually survive. Stamped on the tray is"S.A.MAXWELL& Co 2595. I do not have a clue what this means. The hinges are original to the chest. The lock,while missing the snap, has the original key. Probably the best feature of this chest is the lovely old primitive robin egg blue color. It is reminiscent of a day gone ... moreby. Your mind imagines where this chest has been, the hands that handled it and oh, the silent stories it holds. It is hard to describe the condition of this little trunk. The pictures really do not do it justice. The worn wood slats. The patina of the paint, the waves of the metal all contribute to the charm. Please note,as I said before, the lock does not work, even though it has it's original key. I will leave the repair of that to the new owner. Also, I have not cleaned it up, this is the condition it was in when it came out of the attic. I have not set a reserve on this trunk. Antique American Leather over Wood Society Trunk - Late 1800s
Offered- An outstanding Leather over Wood Society Trunk. The trunk is in extremely good condition- with just a couple of minor flaws. The trunk measures 18 inches across- 10 inches wide- and stands 11 1/2 inches tall. Trunks of this nature were widely used during the Victorian era- to hold Society Hats and other paraphernalia associated with that particular Society. This trunk is marked: photo#10) G.O. Gordon Lodi. Wis. Robert Macoy(Cross- 3- Period) I do not know which Society the Cross and 3 represent. The interior of the trunk is Cedar Wood. There is a form to hold the Society Hat- and a drop down inner lid to hold other accessories. There are a couple of cracks in the Cedar lining. There is a label on the inner lid that reads: The M. C. Lilly Company Manufacturers of Military and Society Goods Columbus. Ohio There is also a silver colored ... moreplaque over the lock with the above manufacture noted. The leather on this trunk is a beautiful Amber/Medium Brown color- with a darker brown outline. The stitching is perfect and all of the rivets are 100% intact. There are very heavy duty Black Metal Hinges with a patent date of 1866. The leather is in very good condition- as the photos reflect- with scuffing and/or scraping commensurate with age. The silver colored lock is fully intact however I do not have the key. The lock is marked: Pat. April 1877(Over 2 Stars) The leather handle is perfect. As is the case with trunks of this nature- the straps that connect to the buckles on the front are used and very fragile. They are intact but do have breaks. I have taped the backs for stability. Also- the left front leather loop that holds the top leather strap in place is missing- please see Photo#9. This is a very nice item- I have a couple of these trunks in my personal collection and they are great for storage- perfect for fragile Christmas Decoration. The lock says Paul Romand. Paris and the street address. Research says that Paul Romand was a late 19th century maker of fine luggage and trunks. Apparently he worked at Louis Vuitton. This is a beautiful and functional steamer trunk. It is in very nice condition- best I can tell from my research it dates to 1892. I know that it was purchased by my husband at an estate auction in Greenwich, CT. In the early 1980's. It is nice as is but I am also aware that these can be restored to an amazing level and that the price for those who can afford it is well worth it as the appreciation is quantifiable! The trunk has original owner's name and city of residence on the end(pictured) as well as remnants of stickers or decals from travel. It has wheels and measures 36" long x 22" tall x 20" deep. Antique late 1800's Excelsior steamer trunk. It is in as found condition from an attic in New Bedford. MA. The trunk is a solid piece made up with slats of wood. The top has a slight dome to it. The top section of the lock is missing but there is no damage to the area, it looks as though someone carefully removed it. There is a missing wheel and some loss to the metal strapping. Please view all photos, as they are showing any losses that I have mentioned. It needs some fixing but the overall condition is quite nice for its age. Vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk Damier Pattern Late 1880's
Antique condition with damage to one corner panel. Pictures show condition. There have been two noticeable repairs most likely done by the manufacturer. The patch on the top is obvious and the lock has been replaced by a different Louis lock which leads me to believe Louis did the repairs. The trunk is intact and structurally sound. RARE ANTIQUE HAT TRUNK Late 1800's To The Turn Of The 1900's CHEST
I have never seen a trunk this size. It measures 21" tall by 19" wide and 19" deep. It is in great condition and I have not replace the missing handles because I did not see the need. The lid is slightly round about 1" of height difference. The inside makes me think it might have been a rare hat trunk!

Antique Late 1800's Dome Top Humpback Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A large hump back antique steamer trunk that dates to approximately the late 1800's. It measures 31" long X 20" wide x 27' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats that have developed a beautiful patina over the past century. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with brass tacks and very ornate hardware. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk used to be lined with paper but it's either been taken off or it's worn off over the years and now it's pretty much just down to bare wood. Which will make it easier to work with when you go to restore it prior to placing linens or blankets in it for ... morestorage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. If you'd like to store things inside most folks like to sand down the interior and then seal it or line it with cedar which eliminates any lingering odors.The hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The bottom of the trunk has 2 plain hardwood slats running across the edges over black tin and there are 3 small metal wheels on the bottom corners(one is missing and needs to be replaced) these little metal wheels make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. We are unsure if the lock works properly because there is no key so it will be shipped in the open position. I don't know all to much about this particular trunks origin. It does have the complete inside compartments in great condition. However some of the strapping inside needs to be replaced, and the outside is all there but does need to be refurbished. Antique Late 1800's Slight Dome Top Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A rather plain antique steamer trunk with a slight dome lid that dates to the late 1800's. It measures approximately 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) and it weighs roughly 38# It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats running across the top. Back and sides. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with both small and large round top tacks and there are rather plain corner protectors on all of the wood. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk has an antique chromolithograph on the inside of the lid of and cattails in the background. The trunk is lined with a dull gray colored paper that has mostly peeled away and ... moreand most folks like to remove all of the paper, sand down the interior and then seal the wood, but there are other options, one is to line the entire inside with cedar. Whichever method you choose will eliminate any lingering dusty odors if you plan to use it for storage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. There's a hole visible way down in the bottom of the trunk that appears to be bigger in the photos than it actually is, my husband has determined that there used to be a knot in the wood and it eventually came loose and was probably removed. The funny looking wood all along the back inside bottom of the trunk is not'lumpy' as it appears to be in the photos, it's flat and smooth and most likely the result of another piece of wood with knots in the finish, the entire inside of the trunk is nice and dry. There is no tray and one of the leather handles are missing and will need to be replaced. We do not have a key for the lock and are unsure if the lock even works so it will be shipped open. Here is an early dome top personal valise or travel trunk. The trunk is trimmed in leather with nail head accents and the interior retains a paper lining which states the maker as NATH’l B. March Portsmouth. The paper bears the date of 1810. While we were told the trunk shows earlier construction. Here is an amazing piece of history. This vintage travel trunk has seen many places such as Paris as you can see from all the vintage stickers on it. This was even on a Cunard cruise. It's 32"x19"x21" The lock does not work but the claps still hold the lid down well. It has the interior trays for clothes and other items. The paper inside is coming off the inside but it's still there is you want to restore it. The thick leather straps are in excellent condition for their age and carry well. This trunk is over 100 years old so it does have wear and tear over the years but that just adds to the character of it. It also has small casters on the bottom for easy transport. The inside is lined with a white fabric all through it even the top. It is extreamly hard to find these at such an early age. This is a# 13 which is on the front brass latch next to the E. Goyard Aine engraving. This has its original basket and tray which are in very good condition. It is rare to find these still with the original chest. The inside has a paper label which says. Antique steamer trunk from the late 1800's. Restored myself.Beautiful wood. Working latches. Perfect for storage or conversation piece. All 4 wheels on bottom, no key so will not lock. Bare wood inside, no tray. All metal parts look great!
