As well as a piece that sits in the bottom drawer(see pictured photo) There is also a piece thats used to secure the hangers farther back that is pictured. The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. Antique1898 NEVERBREAK Steamer Wardrobe Trunk (22"Wx 44"Lx 21.5"D) Serial#508742
This 116 year old NEVERBREAK trunk was one of two that was purchased in 1898 in Newark. NJ, by my maternal great-great grandparents as a wedding present for their daughter and new son-in-law for their honeymoon cruise to Europe. Family history has the couple making numerous trips overseas and cruising to various countries for pleasure as well as to conduct business. The couple had a total of seven children and enjoyed a marriage of 61 years. I inherited this trunk quite sometime ago and although there is sentimental value due to the family ties I have had to come to the realization that I just don't have room. Or real need for it. I would rather see it be used than wasted. Overall Dimensions: 44"L x 21.5"W x 22"D Weight is approximately#75 lbs I don't have anyway of accurately weighing such a bulky object. But# 75 lbs ... moreis realistic. There are five(5) drawers with varing sizes and all with their complete and original hardware except on one drawer where the pull is missing. All of the drawers are in tact and all that are required have the original cotton canvas clothing ties used to keep clothes neatly stacked and stored in place during travel. Dimensions of Drawers: 1) 21"L x 4.5"W x 9.5"D 2) 21"L x 10.25"W x 9.5"D 3) 21"L x 10"W x 9.5"D 4) 21"L x 7.5"W x 9.5"D 5) 21"L x 7.0"W x 9.5"D It has three(3) original wooden coat and suit hangers; along with two(2) pant hangers. All of which travel securely. While resting on two extendable metal rods. There are also two(2) original wooden stabilizer bars with original clips and clasps. There are no bad odors or noxious smells associated with this trunk. All clasps and locks work great. I have misplaced the key. But am in the process of locating it. Antique Wardrobe Steamer Trunk / Vintage travel stickers/ Mendel Trunx - Lutz
This is a fabulous early 1900s black heavy steamer trunk lined with fabric. Once opened. There are 3 dropdown compartments which are suspended by sweet hardware from the era. All are covered with a nice blue fabric in great condition, and each closes with a small flat latch. There is a hanger bar front to back with several original wood hangers. there are tie rack bars running front to back on each side. The trunk compartment is lined with the original blue satin material sporting several shoe pockets surrounding the sides and back. This material should be replaced or refurbished. It is old and stained, torn in areas. Graphics suggest it is a Mendel Trunx. Label says Lutz of Washington D.C. There are heavy leather handels. And travel stickers on the trunk: one from Rome, and a couple of others. All in all.
