Antique 1820 Norwegian Immigrant Trunk, Norway Vintage Rosemaled
Up for auction an antique vintage Norwegian I mmigrant T runk dated 1820. It came from a Norwegian farm settlement in the Madison. Wisconsin area. This is beautifully Rosemaled trunk from the very early period of Norwegian pioneering i mmigration to North America. Front and both sides are elaborated hand painted with floral motifs. T he lock is period to the time. As would be the nails and wooden pegs used. No key for the lock though. The trunk is solidly built with the hand forged metal plates reinforc ing sides and top. Inside is relatively clean- no major issues- wood work has stood test of times. A few scuff marks here and there. As would be normal for a trunk of this age. Also of interest is remnant of a label on one side that spells out'Milwaukee- Ontario Huron. R.R' believe the could be a railroad label from mid 1800s. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk shows excellent pierced metal work throughout and original rivets that fasten all pieces. The top has metal work that shows names and the front of the lid also shows names. This trunk is in very good condition structurally and cosmetically. Note the hand wrought iron handles and original iron bands with applied rivets. The truck has a working lock and original key. The tray that comes with this is not original, it is a handmade cedar tray. Tray is a nice addition to this trunk as it is cedar and will prevent moth damage. Antique Immigrant Trunk Very Old Hump Barrel Back All Wood
Up for sale is a antique all wood immigrants trunk. It is a great antique trunk from the 1800's. It does show signs of aging wood cracked no lock in the front. The trunk is 44 3/4long. 24 1/4inches tall. The bottom is 18 1/4inches deep and the top is 23 1/2inches deep. It could use a good cleaning been stored for years. I will be listing this item plus other oak piece from a local estate. The owner was a refinisher. These were some of the projects that had never got done or even started. For sale is a huge 1800's immigrant steamer trunk. Best guess is German or Swiss. Has a man's name on the top, AUGUST GEUNERT. NEW YORK. I bought it in Pa. At an antique store. They said it belonged to a Doctor. In Philadelphia.They bought this and several Hepple White pieces. From his estate. It is massive. 45 inches wide,22 deep, and 25 1/2 inches tall. And weighs about 75 pounds. Has a some issues with the wood. Please see photo's. Most are the 1/4 inch trim that surrounds. The lid base. A very easy fix for a carpenter. All the straps are present and in great shape with only the hinge. Front pieces altered. The lock plate is 6 3/4 by 4 inches in great. Condition.I do not have the key. Antique 1856 Swedish Immigrant Trunk
This is a beautiful piece of American History. When Immigrants would come from other countries to make a home in America. They would often bring all of their belongings in just one trunk. Don't forget.we are quite spoiled today, unlike us, they could actually fit what they needed to live in just one trunk. This one appears to be Swedish judging by the folk art work which includes flowers and foliage. On the front of the trunk is a clue to whom it originally belonged to.the initials LOS and the date of 1856. It is comprised of pine planks and hand wrought iron hardware. Up for offer we have an early antique domed top wooden immigrant trunk. The trunk measures 49" long by 26" wide and is 28" tall. While woods are not my forte` we have a consensus that this is red oak. Weighs a ton solid in construction and has aged nicely. Dates 1800-1820 possibly earlier. Came out of PA estate. All Original hardware with the exception of the is intact with the exception of a decorative plate above the lock front. You have to examine closely to see, appears a decorative element as the original lock is there no key though. There is some minor loss to some of the decorative hardware edges top and such please refer to photos. The wrought iron handles are there and solid to lift. The piece must have stood on a wall as the back is considerably darker(dirty) than the rest. Antique 1838 Wooden Domed Top Oak Immigrant Trunk Sea Chest Heart Iron Straps
This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. Wow can you believe I have the original key and the lock still ... moreworks. I think the trunk is German but don't see and maker name. The photos do not show the beauty of this antique chest. It goes without saying, of course, you couldn’t swing a dead cat with hitting a bratwurst. I just discovered this round top trunk in undisturbed condition. It is probably from around 1850. Give or take a few years. Two things struck me right away. First, the hasp is not hinged but fixed in place. Second, the gentle round top is just fine for sitting although your guests will stay longer if you put a cushion on top. It is 38 ¾” long by 18 1/4” wide by 19” tall and weighs 46 lbs. It is made of pine. And it has a till inside. The till never had a lid. The till is divided into two sections, and there is an extra"frame" inside. The spring on the lockset is built like a battleship. It is very strong, an amazing feat for being 300 years old This chest has hand forged"rose head" wrought iron nails. They are original to the chest.there are some new reproduction rose head nails I used to secure the inside straps of the handles and the spear latch inside the lid. The character marks and graining of the pine is superb. I love the wormy tunnel marks in the wood throughout the chest, especially prominent on the back and lower sides. Antique 1846 Meyer Family Immigrant's Trunk.German Walnut,dovetail,forged iron. Another Bygone Antiques great find! This trunk is dated 1846 and has the name Meyer on the front. Unfortunately the first name is not legible. It is made entirely of walnut. All four sides are from a single board. There are no nails. Fasteners are all dovetails and pegs. The handles, hinges and hasp are all hand forged iron. The lighter color of the wood around the rim where the lid closes indicates that there was likely a wooden lip at this joint. There is a key hole but no lock. There is a ditty box on the left end with three tiny hidden drawers. There are some splits and cracks in the wood.
