VERY NICE 1800's era Antique Restored Camelback Dome Trunk. Has been restored with orginal designed stamped metal on the outside. The wood around it is in great shape. Stained and sealed. The hinges that holds the lid are in great shape with the exception of 1 that needs to be replaced. There is no key with this trunk. Orginal latches and lock on the front of trunk. The leather handles are new leather and replaced. There is a slight scrape in the metal on the back side of trunk but not noticable from front. antique doll trunk salesman sample Victorian chest circa 1890
Up for auction is a refinished antique doll trunk or salesman sample chest. This little trunk measures 15inches long by 8 inches deep and 8 inches high. There was no tray with this trunk when found but one was built for it out of oak and poplar. The trunk itself is made from pine and is metal bound. All the metal has been hand burnished but enough of the patina has been left to preserve the antique character of the piece. The lock is an Eagle lock and the latches function but are no longer spring loaded. The trunk has been refinished in a golden oak stain with multiple coats of sealer both inside and out. The original covering has been left on the underside to give a sense of the original look. The trunk is in overall good shape but because it is over 100 yrs old there are dings. Dents splits and cracks but these are minor and add to the ... moreoverall antique feel. It is a very well made solid little trunk that will last a lifetime if cared for. Antique refinished trunk one of a kind high end Victorian chest circa 1895
For your consideration is an antique refinished Victorian trunk with fancy hardware and double locks. A feature not often seen. This was definitely a high end trunk in its time, one that would have turned heads at the train station. All the extra hardware, the double locks and the fact it has three protective slat boards on all sides makes this trunk truly unique. A three stave(slat boards) trunk is one that is quite rare. It's only the second one that I've come across to refinish. This trunk measures 34" long by 21" wide by 24" high and has both of its original trays. The trays original cardboard bottoms have been replaced with wood bottoms and finished to match the interior of the trunk. The interior of the trunk has been cleaned down to bare wood, sanded, stained and sealed. Three coats of a water based sealer was ... moreused on the interior and trays to keep any odor to a minimum. The outside of the trunk was professionally refinished with a furniture grade finish. All the metal on this trunk was hand burnished with enough of the patina left to provide a natural antique character to the piece. This is an antique so there will be cracks dents and dings but these just add character. This particular trunk only has one stress crack which is quite unusual(it can be seen in the pic of the top) New high grade leather handles were installed to provide many years of safe lifting. This is a'true' flattop trunk, that is there is no slight built in arch to the top which makes it an ideal candidate to be used as a coffee table or end table or other decorative use. Try as I might I have been unable to find keys for the two locks but I have the ebay'key' guy hot on the trail and hopefully we'll come up with a key before the listing ends. Up for auction is a remarkable refinished antique steamer trunk circa 1890-1895 in fabulous condition. The trunk comes with its original tray which has been fitted with a new wood bottom. The interior of the trunk has been completely cleaned of its old coverings. The wood sanded, stained and sealed with 3 coats of sealer. The old musty smell is gone replaced with a new finish scent that will disappear over time. The sealer was water based so not nearly the odor is left inside. All the metal on the trunk has undergone a three part process to bring back luster but still retain the antique character of the piece. The newly exposed wood exterior of the trunk has been sanded, stained and sealed with multiple coats(i lost count) of a high grade oil based sealer which resulted in a furniture like finish which will stand up,with care, for many years. ... moreNew premium grade leather handles were installed and end caps re-installed just as the original were with with nails turned back into the wood. The bottom of the trunk was cleaned, a rust inhibitor applied to the metal, then primed and everything sealed. The lock on this trunk is original. It is an Excelsior lock made in Newark NJ and the key locks it with a nice click. This trunk was originally sold by the Charles William Stores which was a mail order house located in New York City. This company was in operation before being bought out from 1860 to sometime in the 1920's. The original metal tag identifying the store remains on the trunk. On the tag is a registration number identifying the owner and states if the trunk is separated from the owner, contact(write in those days) the store and the name of the owner will be known. Quite unique for the day. This just a great antique trunk and can be displayed proudly in any home. It measures 32 inches long by 20 inches wide by 23 inches high. The lid has a slight arch. It has had only two owners. My client was 18 years old(over 60 years ago) She purchased it from her neighbor who was in her 80s. It was not refurbished but stored in the back of a swimming pool house. The humidity has help the truck from cracking. Beautiful Antique Flat Top Trunk Very nice mid-sized flat top trunk from the 1890's. This trunk has been 100% restored and is excellent condition. I did not personally refinish this particular trunk. However, I did put a fresh coat of Tung oil over the entire trunk and have repainted all the hardware with a flat black paint and it really looks great. Very solid trunk all around, nicely built, hinges are strong, all hardware is included. The handles have been replaced with new 3-ply leather for many more years of life. The interior of this trunk is a simple pattern with a vintage print attached in the top. The wallpaper does have some minor staining, but nothing serious. This trunk also has two trays, an upper tray made to hold larger items/garments and a lower, much shallower tray made to hold smaller/lighter items. Antique Steamer Canvas Covered Flat Top Chest/Trunk Circa 1880-1910 with Keyhole
This chest may be a Jenny Lind(the top of the line for its time) due to the keyhole in front(no key included; has a lock. But whoever had the key locked the latch-trunk still opens and shuts, just doesn't lock without key, but has latches on each side) but I can not positively identify it as a Jenny Lind. I am unsure what type of wood this chest is made of, but it is dated circa 1880-1910 due to the embossed metal coverings, and the fact that the low flat tops were created beginning in 1880. This is a very hard to find 3-slat topped chest, as most for sale are only 2 slats. It has hardwood staves with metal trim and added hardware. For sale today is a very nicely restored medium size curved top trunk and the restoration turned out just great. I found one patent date on the trunk. The patent date the latches is 1872 which makes this great old trunk as much as a140 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the bottom is solid. Has the two original slats, the metal has multiple coats of clear applied. There are three original hinges that are heavy duty,fancy, tight, polished and the work well. The original center lock has been polished and there is no key. There are 55 plus pieces of polished hardware on the trunk. Two new black leather latches were installed. The interior is original and is very good condition especially since this trunk is well over a 100 years old. There are 59 polished nail covers on the trunk. Antique primitive hand painted and decorated chest. It comes from Bergen County. New Jersey. It was in the Vander Plaat House which was once known as the Vanderbeck House. The chest is from the 1800's. It was decorated at a later date. It has green paint, metal panels, flowers, leaves, studs and mirrors. It is 35" long, 19 1/2" wide, and 20 1/2" high. There is some writing on the back of the chest(see pictures) and a sort of design on the inside of the lid. It has metal handles, and mounts. The chest has cracks on the lid and wear, but is sturdy. Up for consideration is Antique"Jenny Lind" old Stage Coach Traveling Trunk or Steam Trunk. It has the inner tray. This item is in original aged condition at present-These trunks look simply beautiful when restored and polished up. Item is structurally sound and made of oak and pine covered with a leather exterior with steel bands going around it. It has brass buttons and a old iron lock face on the front. The leather handles are missing on the ends and the lock is non-operational. And without a key. When we found this item it was full of old personal items. Bonnets and papers. The bottom was lined with the paper shown in the picture. It was published in Jackson Ohio in 1894. OK. So.this is an awesome, small size camelback trunk. It does look like a"Pirate's" chest to me. Major rust and wood issues.I began to"restore" this but it was beyond my tools and skill set. I did remove the flowered paper from the inside from a previous restoration. I have cleaned it. Taken some rust off with grinding wheels, etc. It is a project but a worthy one! Look up restored trunks and you will see a nice return for a good effort. This one is absolutely unique with many"bells" and whistles in ornamentation. Check out the pics. Shipping is available for this wonderful old flat top. Ebay will not let me post a s/h/i cost because it is an over sized package. Greyhound Bus would be the cheaper way to ship this trunk. For sale today is a beautifully restored large flat top trunk with new leather belts. I did not find any patent dates on this trunk and based on 40 plus years restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1890's to early 1900's which makes this neat old humpback as much as 114 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of paint, three original slats, four original metal whee and the trunk rolls freelyl. The three original hinges are HD, tight and the lid closes well. There are 30 plus polished pieces of original hardware. The Eagle center lock is ... morepolished and there is no key. The mechanical latches are polished, HD, fancy, tight and work well. The original tray is long gone and the interior has been removed. The metal/tin is in VGC. The lid stay is original to the trunk. The lid lifters are built into the mechanical latches. There are 12 solid oak slats in a golden oak color. New black leather handles were installed with the original end caps. This lovely old flat top is 37W. 21 3/8D, 24 1/4H and weighs 44 lbs. When packed and ready to ship this trunk will be 41W, 26D, 29H and weigh 56 lbs. Trunks of this size were first sold in the very late 1700's and early 1800's. But really didn't become popular until about 1810. Dome-top trunks became popular with travelers beause their shape required that they end up on top of the trunk pile. The domed surface made it all but impossible to stack another trunk on top, so these would usually go on top of the pile. This was very important- it meant your trunk be unloaded first upon reaching your desitination, so you could be on your was before the rest of the passengers. Known as'hide trunks' these were popular with tavelers of the day and were made by small shops, saddlers, and blacksmiths throughout the eastern United States. The make. Hide-covered trunks like yours were often made by saddlers in varous towns and places all up and down the eastern seaboard. a basic wooden box was constructed, and then a wet animal hide, usually horse hide, was stretched over the box and nailed in place with copper or brass tacks. As the hide dried it would shrink a little, which made the wood joinery come together tightly, adding strength to the trunk. Low Ladies Trunk, in ORIGINAL UNRESTORED condition, from circa 1896-1903. The interior lining and compartments are gone. The original label and serial number are also gone. Only a small swatch of the original fabric remains(white with a red, double pinstripe)The original interior tacks do remain in the lid interior. Structurally the trunk is solid. Both handles are still firmly attached to the trunk. The wooden slats. Including the bottom slats, are in good shape for their age. Inner hinges on lid corners are in good condition. The trunk also latches with minimal effort and some slight latch tab alignment. Trunk doesn't wobble or seem to have a loose joint anywhere. The exterior is in mostly fair condition with ... morea few condition issues. These issues are not uncommon with trunks of this age and include missing or torn fabric. Wear and oxidation of metals, etc. The four bottom castors are also intact. Two roll freely, and the other two do not and have locked up at some point and have flat spots from wear. Brass tacks are all stamped"LOUIS VUITTON. Iron handles stamped"LV" Brass main latch. Latch is very worn and the original stamping is mostly unreadable. However, NEWBOND" can still be seen quite clearly with the naked eye. Also"MADE IN FRANCE" is clearly stamped on the lower part of the latch. The exterior canvas is ALL ORIGINAL. completely refinished flat top steamer trunk from the 1890s the exterior has been stripped. Sanded, cleaned, brushed, dried and sealed with a quality satin finish. I have installed a pair of double ply leather handles made by the local Amish here in central Pennsylvania. The interior has been stripped. Sanded, brushed clean, dried and sealed with a quality finish before covering it with fabric. I also added a border and a period correct copy of a lithograph often found inside trunks. Some say fabric was never used but I have seen it on rare occasions and always in much better shape then your typical wall paper. so for personal preference and long lasting I usually use fabric to finish my projects. I always stay in the period when replacing a part. Nails, rivets, style of handles etc, I will however use modern fasteners if they are not visible ... moreon the finished project. this particular trunk measurements are 32 1/2" side to side. 19 1/2" back to front, 21 1/2" high. it does not have a key and will not lock by accident. Very Old (circa 1890) Antique Homemade Trunk
A 94 year old lady recently gave this old homemade trunk to my son. She said it belonged to her Mother as a young girl which dates back to the late 1800s. I cannot be sure of the wood species but believe it to be wormy chestnut. Even though the locking mechanism is present there is no key. The dimensions are 28 X 13 1/2 X 12 1/2. The shipping weight is 21 lbs.

For sale today is a beautifully restored stagecoach trunk with smooth metal and the restoration turned out just great. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 plus years restoring trunks I would put this great old humpback circa the 1870's to 1880's which makes this trunk as much as 144 years old- a true antique. Shipping is available for this great old humpback. Ebay will not allow me to offer shipping because it is an over sized package. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid. Has multiple coats of paint, three original slats, four new metal wheels and the trunk rolls easily. The two original hinges are HD, fancy, tight and the lid closes well. There are 20 polished pieces of original hardware. The center lock was made by the Improved Lock Co and is polished, ... morehas a brass keyhole and there is no key. The black leather latches are new, fancy, tight and work well. The original tray is long gone and the trunk has a new large custom built tray and the interior has been removed. The metal/tin is in VGC. A new metal lid stay has been installed. ANTIQUE AUTHENTIC STAGE COACH 3 COMPARTMENT WOODEN TRUNK/CHEST 1840's Up for auction is this very rare vintage STAGE COACH WOODEN CHEST with 2 DRAWERS plus a secret compartment when you lift the top of the chest/trunk made of SOLID WOOD. It was actually used on a stage coach and in very good condition for its age. Shabby chic rustic and rugged. Made of solid wood and brass triming and very sturdy. There is a little paint loss on it due to its age. It looks like it was hand made as well as CUSTOM made. It is solid with no damage to it or its 2 drawers. The drawers are almost 14 inches in depth x 20 inches long x 2" wide. In good solid condition. None of the wood shows any sign of damage. Warping or shrinkage. Both drawers open and close easily. Two metal knobs are present on each drawer to open the drawers. The previous owner told ... moreus that it was checked by an expert and was made sometime during the 1840's and except for one handle on the top. Everything else is original. There is a personal gun/pistol box or a storage box specifically made to store guns. Its bottom drawer is QUITE UNIQUE. The drawer has seven raised wooden compartments in the color blue. TWO of which were designed specifically to fit pistols. The other compartments perhaps to hold ammo and anything else related to pistols or guns. Considering the fact that the trunk carried pistols and perhaps gunpowder. It is quite understandable why side handles were never attached to the trunk. Thus the trunk/chest by design does not have any side carrying handles. We are guessing here that perhaps the trunk was a salesman's trunk in order to sell pistols. That would assure the owner that the trunk had to be hand carried at all times. When you open the trunk/chest it will not remain open unless you put something underneath the top to prevent it from closing. Antique Paper/Wood Dolls Steamer Trunk, Humpback/Dome Type, Circa 1900
This Antique Doll's Steamer trunk. Made of wood and paper wrapped is a humpback or dome type. It is a miniature of a dolls cloths trunk. The Trunk size is 7" long X 5" wide X 4 1/2" tall. It has a front metal latch that is complete at the top, not the bottom. The back hidges are complete and working. This paper exterior does show some wear at the bottom and on the corner on the right side. Also some wear at the top curves, left and right. There is a bit of wear at the top center. There is age discoloration, but this adds to the warmth and beauty of this piece. This trunk does not include a inside tray, but has the bracket for one. Antique dome-topped steamer trunk. Believed to be circa 1890-1910. Wood and most of the metal is in very good shape(could easily be refinished) however, the protective metal bands at corners have received some damage over many years of steamer-travel and freight-handling. The large interior tray is intact, and one of the lid-compartment doors is also intact. Note the decorative panel inside the lid, which is vibrant in color and unblemished. The interior of the trunk has the strong smell of cedar, so I'm assuming that tray construction is of cedar wood underneath the papered covering. Sorry but there is no key. The lid hinges close just slightly"off-center, but the trunk does close and latch securely with care. Can't see a maker's mark, but labels(where legible) indicate travel to NY, so assume it is of American origin.
