1800's ANTIQUE VICTORIAN FLAT TOP WALL TRUNK CHEST DATED W/LOCK & KEY
Up for consideration is a rare. Restored, antique wall trunk. It has a working lock& key. It has dated hinges that read"Dec 22 1891" It has been cleaned well inside and out. A new covering was put inside to resemble the old, so no musty smell. All original hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. New leather handles were put on. It has stress cracks and dings that add to the characture of the trunk. The measurements are: 32" long x 20" wide x 21" tall. Shipping, packing and insurance will cost $89.00. antique Civil War Navy SAILOR'S TRAVELING SEA TRUNK dated "1865"
This old sailor's wooden trunk measures 28" long x 19" wide x 21" high and shows dovetailed construction with rope handles on sides. Dating from the Civil War. The seaman who owned the trunk penciled an inscription in three lines on the underside of lid which is hand written and difficult to decipher but it has a date visable"November 1865" and his name is on the bottom line(difficult to make out) The trunk is heavily constructed with reinforced iron strap hinges that go all the way around and they are held in place with old hand forged rose-head nails. Also of interest is that it still retains both of its original hemp rope handles and there was some old shells in the bottom when the trunk was found. Condition: the right clasp hinge with eye bolt is missing and was replaced with another clasp. Some of the nails ... moreholding the strap hinges are more modern replacements but could easily be removed and square nails put in their place. Some of the wood slats are cracked. One rope handle is detached but both could be replaced easy enough. The trunk is still very sturdy. If you collect Civil War era Navy or mid 19th century nautical items. My husband and I cleaned out a house and found this old trunk in it. The lock on this old trunk is imprinted with the name Eagle Lock Company. Connecticut Patent Date December 6, 1892. Obviously it is used. The pictures show its condition. If you are interested in this trunk. Payment it requested within 3 days of the auction ending using Paypal. The lucky buyer needs to pick the trunk up at my home within 7 days of the auction ending. I have listed this item for pickup only. However. In any case for something, someone very fine, The hand-engraved monogramed brass plate in the center of the lid is hand engraved with a gorgeous"K" with the dates 1877& 1902. Not sure exactly what that might indicate about this chest. Certainly its all gorgeous. The quarter-sawn Tiger Oak is spectacular. The brass corners appear to me custom or handmade. It's all beautifully put together with lapped rebated joints& inlaid walnut splines inside. This combination of the old solid brass hardware. Clean lines and quartersawn golden-oak give this chest an Arts& Crafts feel. It's a perfect height for a coffee-table or end-table. Condition of this chest is ... morefine to very fine. To my eye. Age-related character marks seem appropriate. The bottom looks like it may have at some point been replaced with laminated plywood, but it looks to be a clean job, all recessed underneath so as not to be visible at all. Might be a screw lost here or there, but nothing problematic that I see, and similar brass screws are available if desired. We've cleaned this piece carefully and rubbed it with fine wax to protect. I believe the slats are made of Elm Wood. Inmterior I believe it to be Oak Wood and the rest is Crocodile Tin. It has been in my family since I can remember, a very long time. This wonderful hide covered box is lined with pages from a 1797 book published in Maryland. It is signed and dated in the interior. It is part of a 5 item collection acquired from a member of the DeWitt family that are also now listed on Ebay. Please see the other listings. This family intermarried with the DeWitt. Wallace, Christie, Lyons, Harris and MaClay family and has an impressive lineage. They were predominately from Harrisburg, Pa. Original Painted Swedish Trunk. Dated 1843 Description The original painting is exceptional on this highly decorated Swedish trunk. There are 3 sets of monograms and dates. The largest central one is 1843. This was likely a wedding or anniversary present for a couple.Lovely, colorful tulips and other flowers accentuate the teal blue background color. The wrought iron bands and handles are hand-forged. While there are cracks that run along the trunk, they do not impact the functionality or beauty of the piece. It is in very good condition for its age and has been cleaned and fully restored with a wax finish. Rare 17th c dated 1674 French studded leather traveling trunk/chest Antique
This is a very fine and rare French or European 17th Century dated 1674. Leather travel trunk/chest in beautifully iron studded"Russia" leather, having fleur-de-lis and clover design, heart escutcheons and wrought iron heart pierced hinges and handles, the whole with beautiful patination some leather missing due to 300 hundred plus year old age, the interior papered in a latter 18th or 19th century marbleized paper with 2 hidden compartment in the bottom. This piece is from a old New Orleans estate and has a long history of being in New Orleans Louisiana. The trunk measures 26" deep. 20 1/2 inches tall and 39 inches wide. it is very heavy. Estate ~ Miniature Dome Top Leather Cov. Trunk DATED 1806 Paper Label Ad INSIDE
Fabulous small/miniature size dome top trunk measuring approx. 12-1/4" wide x 6-1/2" x 6" high with original covering. Brass handle at the top& brass lock plate. The trunk is wood you can see the solid wood bottom and the hand hewn runners. The covering looks like thin leather but has some canvas like grain to it so I am unsure. Some of these tiny trunks from the 1800's were used for document boxes this one is lined with newspaper with the original trunk makers label dated 1806 still attached on the inner lid. If you like to stack trunks consider this the top of the stack! We have not seen one smaller than this just look at the detail on the tiny straps and studs ~ quality made piece take a look. I am not an expert on items we sell. I will tell you what I see when I look at the item for names. Numbers or other points ... moreof interest I may give you my opinion on the item. You are looking at an antique, vintage or decorative item. This item is on our 5 day auction bid early so you are not disappointed Conditi on: Solid construction with NO cracks in the wood. One small mouse chew at the top rim near the back(see next to last photo) that I do not consider scary due to its age. The canvas grain leather? material has rips on the backside but could easily be reglued down since it isn't missing much. There are scuffs from age related handling. The brass handle and brass lock plate lift up and down as they should. There used to be 2 leather tabs that acted as hinges that are broken and need to be replaced. Antique Wood Wall Travel Trunk w/Tray- Dated 1891- Refinished
Called a wall trunk because it opens straight up- you don't have to move it away from a wall to open it up. Dated 1891 on some of the hardware. Measures 24" tall; 36" long and 20 1/2" front to back. Wood and metal totally refinished and coated with poly for easy cleaning. Has new wallpaper interior; tray was stripped of paper and left bare. I won't call it totally flat but close with just a slight curve. Variations in wood and metal color- it is 123 years old after all- makes it look more interesting anyway. German immigrants / wedding trunk dated 1856 w/ engraved names locking w/ key
Very rare with engraved names and date. Has original key that still operates the lock. All hand worked metal. Appears to be made of pine. Has a ton of character. The cloth liner is not original and is held in by thumb tacks. It is missing some metal trim on one end of the lid. It is is overall good condition for it's age but it us not perfect. Up for consideration is a Rare Flat Top Clinton Wall Trunk. It has a non working lock. New leather handles were put on. All wood and hardware has been sealed with a satin finish. Antique Dome Top Wood Trunk Dated 1882- Refinished
Beautiful wood and metal dome top trunk is dated 1882 on brass front plate. Measures 29" tall at center hump; sides are 24" tall; 34" left to right; 22" front to back; this is a really large trunk. Totally refinished with 2 coats of stain and top coat of poly for easy cleaning. Stain gives the metal a brassy look. Center plate is brass. Inside has new wallpaper; left side of top is wood compartment that opens in center. Right has small wood box that opens. Tray was stripped and left bare wood. Two buckles on front- used to have leather straps that were cut off and left that way- just seemed to get in the way. New leather handles on sides. Original rollers on bottom, Normal flaws in wood that you can see in photos and don't hurt the looks one darn bit. Truly a lovely antique trunk, perfect for keepsake or blanket chest ... moreat end of a bed.
