Beautifully refinished antique flat top Steamer trunk w/tray ca. 1890
For your consideration Antique flat top trunk Ca. 1890 with original tray. Handles and canvas covering all in perfect shape. The interior has been stripped. Brushed cleaned, stained, and sealed. The original tray still has the lid to it. Can be removed easily if you don't like it. The exterior canvas is in unusually perfect shape. A copy of a period correct lithograph has been put on the inside of the lid. The handles are original and in perfect shape. Fancy Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps. And Buckles, Working Lock& Key and 2 Original Interior Trays Here we have a very unique flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Out of about 1500 trunks that we have refinished. This is the first one that has triple straps running up the front and across the top. This one had originally come with three straps going up the front and across the top from the factory. Obviously we have replaced those three straps with Amish made leather straps, running them where the original straps once were. The center strap can be tucked under a piece of leather on the top if you don't want it to come down over the lock. We have made it that way so you can display your trunk with the lock showing instead of being covered by the third strap. We did want to include the third strap ... moresince it is the first trunk we have ever had with three straps. It just makes it more complete by putting the strap that covers the lock on this trunk. All of the black strap keepers or hold downs that you see on the front and top of the trunk are the original ones which we have painted black. This trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings along with some areas of discoloration to the wood on the slat boards. This one doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood which is quite unusual since most trunks we refinish have stress cracks. Here are the trunk's dimension s: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge band

Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. Up for sale is this beautiful restored antique victorian flat top low profile steamer trunk with working key. It measures 34 1/2" long by 20" wide and 12 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The Trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is very functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Original Working Lock and Original Working Key My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice decorative refinished flat top steamer trunk. The particular d imensions for this are 32" length. 19" width and 21" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and ... moreon the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made tan leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we were able to keep the original lock and key and they are in good working condition. Working the way up to the lid of this trunk. You will find the original stay to keep the lid open when wanted. Also on the lid you will find the original label. This is in wonderful condition and very readable. We included a picture to show you the label. We love finding these on trunks, it fills us in on a little bit of the trunk's history. Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a nice refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one has a very fancy working lock. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/4 inches. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and make it look nice. The wood is in pretty good condition considering the age of this trunk and there are some typical stress cracks in the base wood. We have shown a close up picture of some of these stress cracks on the top. The majority of the trunks have similar stress cracks. This trunk maker did a nice job of running metal banding ... moreon this trunk. By doing so, it gives the trunk a nice wooden sectioned appearance. Some of the metal banding was missing, so we have filled these areas with glue to make up for the missing banding. The front latches are original cast iron ones and do work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Someone has added a lock hasp on the front of the trunk next to the fancy lock. We decided to leave it there since it appears to be fairly old and you could use a padlock with this hasp to secure the lid of the trunk to the base in addition to the fancy working lock. The lock is fancy in which it has embossed and carved patterns on it. There is a close up picture showing this unique lock. We did match up a key that does work with this lock. We are calling this trunk a flat top, although this trunk has a very slight factory arch to the top which is noticeable in ths close up side view picture. Charming Early Primitive Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk Here is a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from the mid to late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This one is a more primitive style trunk in which there is more wood showing and less fancy metal hardware. This one still has the Jenny Lind influence in which there are the small brass rosettes or buttons on the thin metal banding at the sides. The trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards on the top. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older nicks and dings on the wood in various places. This trunk comes with the original lock which has been remounted ... morewith screws. The lock does not work since the top engagement piece or latch that swings down into the lock is missing. The lock is AS IS since this part is missing. The side handles have some wear, but were in good enough condition to keep. They are brown leather stitched straps. This trunk might serve nicely as a coffee table since it does have a flat top. These trunks can also be used to store collectibles like Civil War items or coins within. A real common way to use a trunk like this is to store clothing and other personal belongings within it, especially in a bedroom at the foot of the bed. Going to the interior, the wood is totally rough cut boards. There was glue residue on these boards which held the paper lining in place. The glue residue was light colored, so we had to stain the interior wood dark to try to cover up the lighter glue areas. The interior is dark colored with some glue areas showing and has rough cut boards. A nice picture of a girl holding her pet cat has been added to the underside of the top. Very Nice Fancy Refinished Belber Brand Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Manufacturer's Brass Tag, and Brass Working Lock With Key Here is a refinished signed Belber trunk from around the early 1900's. This one sure is fancy with lots of metal hardware all over it. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top is 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This trunk is made up of the original laminate from the factory. It is some type of pressed composition over some type of wood. We have given the laminated areas a nice dark reddish mahogany color and then polyurethane over the mahogany stain. The edge banding with all the nails in it appears to be also a type of composition and it is a brownish color which we have freshened up. ... moreThis beautiful flat top has the brass manufacturer's tag. It says, Belber Make" Philadephia, New York, Chicago" They must have had a few factories producing their trunks. This Belber trunk comes with the original brass working lock. We have semi polished the brass lock and matched up a key that does work properly in this lock. The remaining metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The front latches are also original and in good working condition since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps. They were missing, so we have run a pair of nice Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front, across the top, and down the back in the same location where the original ones were. These leather straps with roller buckles are functional and in addition to the lock and latches, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. This trunk is named a wall trunk since it can be put right up against the wall and the lid can be lifted up without hitting the wall since very little space is needed for it to open properly. Most trunks need to be about three or four inches away from the wall for the lid to be opened. Look at the pictures and we have shown the signed and patent dated hinges. Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Wall Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area. And Interior Tray Here is a very unusual fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. It is unusual in which the top and back and front slat boards are angled at about 45 degrees. We have only had about four of these over the past thirteen years to refinish and that would be out of around 1500 trunks. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are some ... moretypical older distress marks on the wood. These character marks include older nicks and dings. Mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards, and there are a couple of stress cracks. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have these type of markings. This great trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. This trunk maker used a very nice amount of nice hardware on this trunk. A lot of it has embossed patterns to the metal. The front latches are original and they have a big number"3" at the top of them which we have highlighted in black paint. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. The trunk maker also did a good job of running vertical and horizontal outer slat boards on this trunk, especially on the sides. It is not very often that you have two vertical slat boards and a horizontal slat board running on the sides of the trunk. Anyhow, it gives it a nice, unique appearance. The side handles have been replaced with sturdy Amish made black leather stitched straps.

Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk with Working Lock and keys Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we have refinished for the past 8 years. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed the canvas from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the canvas we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil as a finish. After much research we have found that by using tung oil, ... morenot only does it not leave such a strong odor as other finishes, but it also penetrates the wood preventing the wood from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. You will the original lid stay to help keep the lid open. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look and repainted the metal black. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. It would also make an excellent wine rack. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. It could also be used as a blanket chest. This is a refinished antique steamer trunk. The age is estimated to be late 1800's to early 1900's. The manufacturer is unknown. But the lock is a Yale and Towne MFG Co. Stamford, Conn. It has all of the original hardware. There is new leather straps and handles, as well as all new nails. The canvas has been refinished as well. The inside is a red mahogany stain. This trunk is made up of the original brown laminate or composition exterior with the oak outer slat boards. The exterior has been given three coats of polyurethane by Minwax ... moreto preserve and protect the exterior. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass, except for the manufacturer's tag, and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk originally had a pair of leather straps which have eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base like the front latches do. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are intact. The edge banding and two bands running up the front and across the top are not metal. They are a pressed composition and we have left them in their brown color. This trunk comes with the original lock. It appears to be all intact. We were not able to match up a key. So we have created a resin and kind of made our own laminate for the top and gave it the same brown color. If you look at some of the pictures of the top, you will see that the areas that we redid do have some slight pits and waviness to those sections. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it. The outer slat boards look like ash and the edge banding appears to be made up of some type of compressed composition which we have left in it's brown color. There is a lot of fancy metal parts on this trunk. They are not brass, so we have painted them by hand in gold leaf. This one comes with the original lock, although we do not have a key to make it work. It appears to be all there and maybe you can hook up with your locksmith and obtain a key for this lock. The front latches are original and they do work well since the springs are in good shape. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the inside, we removed the interior lining and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. We did put a new board over the top on the underside of the lid to make it more sturdy. A nice trunk maker's style picture has been added to this new top. This trunk could hold quite a few blankets and clothing articles. It would look nice sitting at the foot of the bed. It could also be used as a coffee table or end table. Recently, we have sold a couple of trunks that have been given by the parents to their adult children as they are moving off to college. I recently bought the inventory of a well known local trunk refinishing specialist. His trunks have been used in magazines. Print adds and several motion pictures. He was well known for his unique way of upholstering the interiors of the trunks. The trunks make great use of storage space, make great coffee or end tables or great at the foot of your bed. Completely Refinished Antique flat top steamer trunk circa 1890 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
completely refinished flat top steamer trunk from the 1890s the exterior has been stripped. Sanded, cleaned, brushed, dried and sealed with a quality satin finish. I have installed a pair of double ply leather handles made by the local Amish here in central Pennsylvania. The interior has been stripped. Sanded, brushed clean, dried and sealed with a quality finish before covering it with fabric. I also added a border and a period correct copy of a lithograph often found inside trunks. Some say fabric was never used but I have seen it on rare occasions and always in much better shape then your typical wall paper. so for personal preference and long lasting I usually use fabric to finish my projects. I always stay in the period when replacing a part. Nails, rivets, style of handles etc, I will however use modern fasteners if they are not visible ... moreon the finished project. this particular trunk measurements are 32 1/2" side to side. 19 1/2" back to front, 21 1/2" high. it does not have a key and will not lock by accident. Measuring approx. 32-1/4" wide x 18-3/4" x 20-3/4" tall. The lid is supported by a metal corner bracket that keeps the lid up nicely when the trunk is open. The wooden tray has the original metal finger lifts on each side so you can easily lift the tray out of the trunk. The inside floor of the trunk is wood but underneath the trunk is metal with the original metal rollers that act as little feet and move the trunk along easily. This piece has a lot of character I have seen people put wallpaper inside these trunks to match their room. Leave it clean wood or paper it your choice. With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with an antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Tray, original picture and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then took off the canvas to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, ... morewe sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has the original lid stay to help keep it open. You will also see that we were able to apply an original picture on the inside of the lid that came from another trunk that we have used for parts. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. As in trunks of this style and age.We have applied two straps on the front. Steamer trunks in that era used the straps to help keep the lid securely sealed if needed, especially when traveling. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. This trunk also comes with a tray made as a replica of the original. For you consideration is a fully refinished flat top antique trunk. This trunk was stripped of its exterior canvas and interior paper. The wood was then cleaned and sanded. The interior was stained and sealed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The exterior was painted and sealed returning it to its original look. This trunk is a little unusual as it measures 30" wide X 17" deep X 22" high. It does not have a interior tray(original trunk did not have a tray)or a lock key. It works well as a side table.
