Only the high grade trunks had real leather trim and edging, all solid brass hardware and silk lining. Constructed of wood with leather edge bindings. Heavy canvas covering, solid brass slat braces, brass lock, latches, and rivets, and thick leather side handles. Two solid brass latches are on the front and work. ... moreThe marked lock is also of solid brass, no key is available. The interior is linen lined and contains the special fitted compartments made for shirts, shoes, and various other garments as well as umbrella straps. The four bottom wood slats are present as well as the heavy duty rollers. The trunk bottom is in very good condition, with zinc covering and hardwood slats. The brass hardware is all present and has not been highly polished, to preserve the aged patina. It could be polished if desired. The leather trim, corners, and handles are intact with typical signs of wear. The leather has all been treated with professional leather treatment polish. It is hard to find ornate trunk handles of this style that are still intact. The trunk is a great size for use as a table if desired. Condition notes: This trunk is in very good used condition. But there are signs of age and use which are typical for a trunk of 100 years or more in age. There are some minor issues I want to describe. The top of the trunk has a couple splits or cracks in the canvas, which are not visible from all angles. The cracks are filled and glued and are not very large or very noticeable. This is a very fine and rare French or European 17th Century dated 1674. Leather travel trunk/chest in beautifully iron studded"Russia" leather, having fleur-de-lis and clover design, heart escutcheons and wrought iron heart pierced hinges and handles, the whole with beautiful patination some leather missing due to 300 hundred plus year old age, the interior papered in a latter 18th or 19th century marbleized paper with 2 hidden compartment in the bottom. This piece is from a old New Orleans estate and has a long history of being in New Orleans Louisiana. The trunk measures 26" deep. 20 1/2 inches tall and 39 inches wide. it is very heavy. As you can see in the photo's there is wear,chipping and missing leather. Antique Embossed Tin Ladies Flat Top Steamer Trunk French Country Coffee Table ?
A sweet Victorian style antique steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's that was probably used for a son and a daughter when they traveled with their parents. It measures approximately 30" long X 16" wide x 19' high and it's just about the perfect size for a coffee table. It's covered with tin that's embossed with a red floral design and the tin is in very nice condition. There is some surface rust but no rust through. The flat top has beautiful hardwood slats holding the tin securely to the lid and all of the slats are held in place with brass tacks. This trunk comes complete with its original tray which has one covered compartmen, on the inside of the lid and on the cover of the compartment you'll find chromolithographs. The little girl on the inside of the lid is holding a puppy and the little ... moreboy on the compartment cover is wearing a sailor's outfit and he holds a cat. The trunk is lined with paper. The outside bottom of the trunk is covered with black tin which is held in place with 2 plain hardwood slats and it's done a good job of protecting the wood beneath because the inside of the trunk has remained nice and dry. The trunk retains a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. Most folks like to remove all of the paper inside, sand down the interior and then give it a coat of sealant which eliminates any lingering odors. Others like to line them with cedar. whichever your preference this old gal will surely be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. I currently have a dome top trunk listed that could be this trunk's sister- it has the same red embossed tin but the chromolithographs feature women on the inside of the lid and on the tray cover instead of children. This trunk has dings. Dents, scrapes and other signs of heavy use which you'd expect to see in an antique travel trunk that had been handled as much as these were over the last 100+ years. W

A French Steamer Trunk with White Star Line sticker on the exterior. We are pleased to present this antique French Steamer Trunk for your consideration. It belonged to a G. Pellissier. And has many indications of extensive use, including a White Star Line sticker on the exterior. The original label from the shop in Paris. France where it was purchased is still attached to the underside of the lid in the interior, and is in pretty good shape. The Trunk measures 13 inches high. 40 inches wide, and 23 inches deep. It weighs 36 pounds. The trunk shows heavy wear to the exterior fabric. And is worn through in places down to the underlying wood. Despite heavy wear, the structure is solid. Heavy brass corner protectors show a heavy patina, along with some dents, but have done their job to protect the wooden frame. Pieces of the leather straps on ... moreboth ends remain, but the leather is in poor shape. The interior fabric shows water stains, and is torn in places. The bottom appears to be made of tin, and is in good shape. Metal latches and fasteners show a heavy patina. We rate the overall condition of the Trunk as fair to good. Antique Carved French Trunk with Lion, Coat of Arms, King & Queen
French carved oak trunk. Late 19th century. This finely hand-carved trunk has a rich medium brown patina and features a lion with a coat of arms in the center, flanked on either side by a king and queen. The sides of the trunk also are carved with a king on one side and queen on the other. This is very old, and shows signs of wear as would be typical from age and use. There are cracks to the wood through the front left panel and on the right side of the trunk as well as minor losses to the carving.
