Antique Mexican Wedding Chest
A ruggedly hand-hewn Antique hand-painted Mexican Wedding Chest from about 1800. Entirely hand crafted in Mexico. Corners have hand cut dovetails and carved wooden pegs secure the joints. The hand painted exterior finish has deteriorated over the 25 years it has resided in our 1810 Colonial. It needs an artist to bring back the originally vibrant rainbow of colors in preservation. The interior is painted with vivid color and is in an excellent state of preservation. Hardware is original hand wrought iron. Inside is a small compartment for valuables. The lock is missing and on this picturesque furniture. There is a hand painted"Anno 1780" date, an illegible inscription and swirly decoration that appears to be later. Victorian Dome-Top Trunk Wedding/Bride’s Chest#9349 Victorian Dome Top Trunk Wedding/ Bride's Chest w/Original Ornate Compartments& Lithos 34.25” long x 21.25” wide x 25” tall. Fresh attic find. There is a paper note on the top. Which would easily come off, stating the last time it was used was 1925. All original and unmolested, with removable tray and compartments adorned with the original lithographs. The interior design, with the lithos, look like the MM Secor or Martin Maier trunks I have seen listed, including the size, look at some of them. The exterior is ornately decorated with iron, steel and leather. A lot of the ornamental leather has cracked and flaked off, the right latch has a break in the loop, it still functions fine. This is a recent estate sale find and was told it is Norwegian in origin and came from Sweden and was purchased at an antique store in Pennsylvania many years ago. It is a beautiful example of the old time wedding chest or dowry. These were used by woman back in the day that were to be married and they would accumulate items that they would take into their marriage. usually made by a family member or carpenter. This one appears to be made of pine. Usually the brides name and date of birth were painted on chest along with decorations. This one is beautifully painted with a burgundy barn red color as the primary color and navy blue and creamy yellows in very beautifully done scroll design. Reads on front of dowry. This is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The flower painting is in pretty good shape on the sides and on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46 inches wide by 23 inches deep by 25 inches high. It has been passed down in my family for several generations. I can remember it always being in a guest bedroom in my grandparents home and they were art and antique collectors. I am in the process of downsizing and I have quite a few pieces to sell. I would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. This chest is a beautiful hand painted piece. I had an expert in early American antiques look at the piece. He said it most likely was built in the late 1700's. It has hand forged steel nails. Hinges and original lock. The wood is hand dovetailed as they are all slightly different in size. It's most likely European with that painting and as it has it has the tiny holes in the wood only found on European wood. He believed the chest was then painted and given as a wedding gift in 1880. The overall condition is good. Still very solid. One board on the bottom and one on the back have been replaced at some point. The wood has age cracks as you would expect from a piece of this age. The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. This interesting piece came from an Estate of a couple in their 80s with a incredible story. Belonged to her great great grand mother who traversed the ocean on a ship from England,over land by both stage coach and one of this country`s earliest locomotives to marry her great great grampa,and in this trunk she brought her wedding gown. Fact or Fiction? Hard to say! This trunk is sold as found.A bit rusty,and a bit crooked,outside has some minor traveling related boo boos- This would be a great addition to any Shabby Chic collection/ display, as a movie prop, would easily transform into a marvelous coffee table. Measures 36 inches long by 20 3/4 inches wide by almost 7 inches deep, the lining is pretty much intact[ one small tear, couple stains- please see pics] please see pictures to make your own evaluation!

Neumeyer& Emma Erdman of Macungie. Allentown, Pennsylvania. Possibly this trunk was her wedding Chest. Trunk has patterns on it. Trunk is covered with pattern printed paper. Its not painted. Original condition. Inside the Trunk is covered with paper too. It has some stains but generally in good condition. Outside of the trunk. Bottom part has some paper loss. No key! It does not get locked without key. Lock looks simple. Should be easy to find a key for it. Side locks works. By moving thing left or right(both same direction) Trunk handles are WOOD! Not leather. There is an 1 1/2" hole drilled completely thru the back to the inside-not sure why-please see pictures. 2. Leather straps have rotted off. 3. Someone has mounted a handle on the front-can be removed. The lock I think is also missing because there is a key hole-pictures of this are on here also. 4. Antique Victorian dome top painted Wedding Chest. Ca 1870's trunk, pat. date on the two latches July'73, no key. Actual time of painting is unknown, also inside was covered with a heavy wallpaper like material. Has original casters along with an additional all swivel set, trunk was taken care of and repaired when needed, ie screw added where an original rivet popped out, ect.
