Antique Primitive Pine Lift Top Trunk Painted Green Tool Chest Country Folk
Antique green lift top chest. Classic primitive or country style. It looks like it was made from pine and has a basic six-panel construction. The top is made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish ... moreand some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. Antique Primitive Pine Sugar Chest with Bracket Feet Lock Americana Trunk Brown
This lovely primitive sugar chest came out of an old house here in Savannah. Georgia. It was found lined with a layer of newspaper dating from 1839-1840, so we are guessing this piece dates to the early part of the 1800s. The actual chest appears to be made from pine, which as far as we can tell is a bit unusual for a sugar chest. The box sides/top are all made from one slab of wood, so it is made from old large timber. The chest has one large deep compartment and then a small drawer in the bottom, each with a lock. We do not have the keys to the locks. It has low, simple bracket feet. The hardware is old, but most likely not the original, as the chest came with one of the original knobs loose inside. The knobs that are on there now are similar to the original. It was also painted with a brown wash at some point. Antique & Primitive Six Board Footed Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Box, Trunk 47"
I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. An antique miniature chest with wonderful dovetail joints. Footed. It sits on 4 legs. 19 th Century. There is paint on the bottom. Original paint. Lovely warm patina. There are hints of green paint on the outside. This is a beautiful primitive. I measure just over 17 ¼ inches tall by about 26 ¾ inches wide by just under 14 inches deep. A hard to find size. Weighs about 24 pounds. It looks like both hinges have been moved a time or two. There is an inlay patch on the lid near the keyhole. The key hole is quite worn. I’m not sure of the type of wood. The lock is off. There is part of the lock loose on the inside. The box inside may be called a keeper or keepsake or candle box. This trunk was owned by Tony Orlando(see below) This steamer shipping trunk has a hinged domed lid painted with"Bremen and New York" in black letters. The trunk opens to reveal a small raised compartment on the interior left side. There are some cedar shavings that are still present in the trunk. The large storage piece has its original wrought iron handles and having brass pull and escutcheon to front. The Trunk measures 31"H x 45.75"W x 23.5"D. We put the date to early 1820's to mid 19th century. The Trunk's condition has overall surface wear& scratches. We have not yet waxed this piece and offer it in it's"as found" condition. Antique Primitive Chest Trunk Wood & Tin Hand Decorated Circa 1800's
Antique primitive hand painted and decorated chest. It comes from Bergen County. New Jersey. It was in the Vander Plaat House which was once known as the Vanderbeck House. The chest is from the 1800's. It was decorated at a later date. It has green paint, metal panels, flowers, leaves, studs and mirrors. It is 35" long, 19 1/2" wide, and 20 1/2" high. There is some writing on the back of the chest(see pictures) and a sort of design on the inside of the lid. It has metal handles, and mounts. The chest has cracks on the lid and wear, but is sturdy. A Ladycomet Primitive Early Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest
Charming Early Primitive Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk Here is a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from the mid to late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This one is a more primitive style trunk in which there is more wood showing and less fancy metal hardware. This one still has the Jenny Lind influence in which there are the small brass rosettes or buttons on the thin metal banding at the sides. The trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards on the top. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older nicks and dings on the wood in various places. This trunk comes with the original lock which has been remounted ... morewith screws. The lock does not work since the top engagement piece or latch that swings down into the lock is missing. The lock is AS IS since this part is missing. The side handles have some wear, but were in good enough condition to keep. They are brown leather stitched straps. This trunk might serve nicely as a coffee table since it does have a flat top. These trunks can also be used to store collectibles like Civil War items or coins within. A real common way to use a trunk like this is to store clothing and other personal belongings within it, especially in a bedroom at the foot of the bed. Going to the interior, the wood is totally rough cut boards. There was glue residue on these boards which held the paper lining in place. The glue residue was light colored, so we had to stain the interior wood dark to try to cover up the lighter glue areas. The interior is dark colored with some glue areas showing and has rough cut boards. A nice picture of a girl holding her pet cat has been added to the underside of the top. Primitive Antique Folk Art Painted Trunk Chest Old estate find. This is a nice early trunk that has been decorated on all sides with folk art paintings. I do not know the age of the painting but it is charming and colorful. On the top of the trunk there is writing in script that says"He who gives a child a treat- makes joy bells ring in heaven's street" The oval with the writing is bordered with flowers and figures. There is a house on the front with a woman and man, a rocking horse on the ends and two angels on the back. Nice painted border around the top and bottom edge. Latch on the front and long hinges inside(some screws have been replaced) It has little wheels on the bottom. Inside painted yellow. Solid and sturdy. In good antique condition. Small Fancy Primitive Antique 1871 Girl's Trunk -Doll - Document Chest
This is a fantastic. Small antique trunk. It is 14 1/4" wide, 9" deep and 6 3/8" tall. Most likely made by a father for his little girl. There are cut-out pictures from Frank Leslie's Lady's Magazine, Feb. 1871 issue, glued to the inside. Pieces are missing on the lid inside. There are stains on the inside. The outside is decorated with red leather straps and small iron plates which have been attached with brass, round head tacks. Only a few tacks missing. Has the original leather handle on top. Originally had leather hinges holding the lid on. They wore out and are replaced with modern brass hinges. The trunk has no cracks or breaks. A great original, primitive piece! Lovely Antique,Primitive Salesman Sample Trunk Or Child's Trunk Late 1800's
I have up for sale today a lovely old trunk. I do not know if it is a salesman sample or a child's trunk. It measures 14 inches across. 8 1/2 inches deep and 10 inches tall at the highest point. It is estimated that this trunk was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's condition is pretty good considering it's age. The original leather handles,usually missing in a trunk so old, is still intact. The interior appears to be all original. Still containing the original tray, something that does not usually survive. Stamped on the tray is"S.A.MAXWELL& Co 2595. I do not have a clue what this means. The hinges are original to the chest. The lock,while missing the snap, has the original key. Probably the best feature of this chest is the lovely old primitive robin egg blue color. It is reminiscent of a day gone ... moreby. Your mind imagines where this chest has been, the hands that handled it and oh, the silent stories it holds. It is hard to describe the condition of this little trunk. The pictures really do not do it justice. The worn wood slats. The patina of the paint, the waves of the metal all contribute to the charm. Please note,as I said before, the lock does not work, even though it has it's original key. I will leave the repair of that to the new owner. Also, I have not cleaned it up, this is the condition it was in when it came out of the attic. I have not set a reserve on this trunk. The exterior of the box is covered with dark brown leather secured by brass tacks. The interior is lined with its original printed wallpaper, with the original label on the inside of the lid. Also has original lock, but no key. Was in the same Northern Vermont family for many years. Measures approximately 14" in width, 6 1/2" in height, and 9" in depth. The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Some of these were made with secret compartments. But I havent had the time to look. The Handles the lock& the hinges are bold gothicstyle hand forged iron It is still useable but I have miss placed the pins for the lid. All the wood is in good condiion on all 4 sides and lid. Antique Stage Coach Trunk Primitive Trunk Original Primitive Designer Piece
You just found the ultimate Primitive Trunk This would make a statement in any room! Original finish on outside. Brass studs with patina, leather covering with circle design imprinted. Missing handles, all as I received it. Interior paper came off when I cleaned it but I was able to save the woman's face and piece it back together. Just beautiful! I can only imagine the stories this trunk would tell with a beautiful woman traveling across America with all her belongings in this trunk! The exterior is original with all it's flaws it has so much character Looks like someone put new hinges on the back for the top. The latch on the front is put off to the side. I wonder if somebody broke into this trunk at one point! My imagination goes crazy every time I look at this trunk What a conversation piece! Antique English Pine Primitive Chest Trunk Box- Documents- Tongue And Groove,
Lovely 19th century pine box with gorgeous tongue and groove corners. Does not come with key but has original lock and the original hinges. I bought this in England and was told it was likely Irish in origin. 8"x12" and 6" high. Lovely patina! Contact me with any questions! Antique Primitive Immigrants Trunk Hand Forged Steel Fleur De Lis Blanket
Very Very Old Primitive Trunk. Original tole painting still visible on front. Hand dovetailing. Blacksmith forged handles and hardware. Measures approximate 39" wide. 27" tall, 23" deep. Look closely at pics. Looks like late 1700's early 1800's. Decorators dream item here. Definitely not perfect but great patina and weathering. I would not know how to begin to know how to ship this item. So its pick up only. I am in central Indiana. 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Anderson Indiana. I have a fairly large parking lot to accommodate a pickup vehicle. I will meet you and work with your shipper but those arrangements need to be made and paid for by the buyer.
