Own a Piece of American History Today! This trunk is over 100 years old! FREE SHIP ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(163-66) With Measurements: 35"w x 21"d x 28"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. ... moreover the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. I have done my best to describe this piece. It is very old and will contain the usual wear marks of typical everyday use and travel. It's actually very appealing to show the wear.tells a great story of all the years this trunk has seen! It's my opinion that you will be very happy with this piece. Vintage Round Top Trunk - c.1870s
Round Top Trunk- c.1870s(Sometimes called a Camel Back) This one is in good condition considering the age and has been restored on the exterior. Including new leather handles(pics 3& 5) It is a combination of metal and wood with small caster wheels on the bottom. The interior(pics 6& 7) has the original lining on the lid. But it does not have any lining on the bottom half of the trunk. Note also that the lift-out tray is missing and there are two screws visible on the left hand side(interior) where the hinge attaches to the trunk body(pic 6) The hinge repair is also evident in pic 4, which shows where a small repair hinge has been added. It looks great in almost any decor and is very good for storing Christmas decorations. Amazing Antique Round Top Trunk
We are offering an 1870’s. Round Top Trunk. The trunk measures, 30" length x 18" height and 15" width. This fabulous trunk is covered in Western Square Style paper. The inner lining is paper as well. The Wood Slats on the top of the trunk and front appear to be Oak. The bottom slats and construction wood appear to be poplar and the handles are wood as well. The lock latch looks to be hand forged. The nails are round/oval head square shaft. This is visible in the picture of the lid lock hardware, they were driven thru and clinched on the outside. Metal-covered, round-top trunk that dates from the late 1800's. The trunk has a beautiful metal design of berries and vines. The inside has been lined with a nice victorian design fabric. All of the hardware is original, but the handles have been replaced. No key for the lock and unfortunately even if you had a key it would not lock. At some time in it's history someone has removed the loops from the back of the double lock(see pictures for detail) and it will no longer lock. For your consideration is a beautiful anti que round top Civil War era trunk. It is also known as a stagecoach trunk. Based on the lock. The hand forged iron handles and the hand forged nails I believe this trunk dates to 1850-1860. Also please notice the quality. Unusual, hand cut. Dove tailed corners. This trunk is made from six solid pine boards. All sides, top, and bottom are made of a single wide pine board. The top has a couple of small cracks due to the wood losing its moisture over its 150+ years of life. It comes with a working lock but missing the key. The trunk measures 30" wide X 15" deep X 13" high. It does not have a tray as trunks during this time were not equipped with trays. Rare and Rustic. Antique Hide Covered Round Top Trunk- 1831! This amazing trunk dates back to when Andrew Jackson was president of the United States! Trunk is lined with newspaper from the Christian Intelligencer( April. 1831) The Christian Intelligencer was in publication between 1830 and 1920. It was printed and published in New York for an association of members of the Protestant Reformed Dutch Church. The trunk is highly adorned with brass nail heads. Steel plates and various types of leather. Hand forged iron handles on each end and a nice simple lock show off some serious craftsmanship. An old gouge repair is seen above the lock which was sewn with sinew. Condition is very good for the age and unbelievable journey this item has traveled. Uncertain what wood this is. Lid is still very straight with no major bowing or warping. Much of ... morethe soft. Deerskin hide has worn off, though some is still present in places. Unfortunately, the hide on this trunk has been peeled off, cut and removed in places. At one time the large brass nails spelled out the owners initials on the lid: SB" The hide is missing from the following areas: top middle section. the entire back and right side and the lower left side. We are guessing someone was looking to refurbish it many years ago? That is why these trunks are so rare. the ugly ducklings of history that get lost forever. There are no keys for the unmarked lock. The right front edge of the lid has split away slightly. Hinges were made of leather( present but long broken) Please see our pictures for more information on detail and condition. This listing is for a stunning steamer trunk. Hardware patents are dated March 1880! The trunk features a domed top with sleek crosshatch pattern tin. The top has 5 nice wood slats, with more wood all around the body! Both handles are intact, the inside has some great graphics with ornamental clasps for the compartment. There are 4 wheels on the bottom. The screw is missing from the prop to hold it open. and there is only one prop. If there were originally two. this very nice round top trunk. has hand stamped rolled brass looking metal sheets on outer finish between wood slats. Antique Curved Leather Top Saratoga Trunk Offering you beautiful curved Dome top trunk. This trunk once was quite an expensive beauty. The curved top. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I purchased it from a lady who stated it was in the stable area of her very old, victorian home. The home was built in the early 1900's. INSIDE: I believe it is constructed of Pine with a floral paper design. Which means this trunk belonged to a Woman. OUTSIDE: Has a dark metal/tin tone. 4) wooden, Elm? vertical slats on the dome top, 2) horizontal wooden slats on the front& ... moreback, 1) wooden slat on each side. There is a 16" wide(wooden slats divide the leather area) Leather type Alligator design area on the top that extends down the front and back and along both sides. The metal work is very nice and when this trunk was new, must have been gorgeous. There are(8) metal shield type designs holding down the top wood slats. On the top side ends, there are large metal Crown like designs. There are(2) brown leather handles. 1 handle is torn but repairable. This trunk was definitely for a woman of importance. Approximate Dimensions: 22" High@ the highest-middle 32.5" Wide 17.5" Deep Condition: This trunk is in good antique condition. There is normal wear. Which is expected, due to it's age. The bottom inside does have a few minor cracking in the wood. There is not a lock on the trunk. All the nails& design hardware are there, as far as I can see. 1800s Pine Round Top Wood Trunk Forged Iron Handles Square Nails Primitive. We are selling an antique pine trunk/ chest in its original condition.This trunk dates to about 1870s and still in good condition.There are five large dovetail joints on all corners. The cast iron handles are in very good condition. The end board on one side is a solid 13" wide plank. The pine boards are all old growth wood. The bottom planks have a few cracks in them as the pictures show. There are normal age wear nicks and bumps and dings. The size is 34" long. 16 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" tall. The lock is gone. Two old brass chains hold the top open. There is some very old wall paper on the inside of the trunk. Shipping will be by fedex. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. Vintage Trunk, Round Top, with Inside boxes, late 1800's
I don't know all to much about this particular trunks origin. It does have the complete inside compartments in great condition. However some of the strapping inside needs to be replaced, and the outside is all there but does need to be refurbished. Best I can tell there is nothing missing, handles are there, inners, outside strapping and outside wood are in great condition as well. I have as a pick up, but I will arrange shipping if needed.

For your consideration is an antique. Small stagecoach trunk or large document box. This trunk dates to 1816 based on the newspaper covering the interior. The trunk has its original hide covering. Refinished antique round top steamer trunk circa 1885. Trunk is finished in satin black and deep maroon with dark oak wood trim. Inside tray has been replaced.
