Campaign-Era Iron-Bound Wooden Trunk England. 19th c. A handsome Campaign-era British military officer's trunk of iron-bound wood. Featuring iron bindings, hinges, handles, and latch as well as plank wood construction. Resting on raised feet. Campaign-era trunks and coffers were the travel items of British military officers who bought and commissioned them for their campaigns abroad to India and Ceylon(The Raj) indeed, the whole of the British Empire. The officers, being predominately from the upper classes, were accustomed to a certain standard of living and found it unthinkable to travel without their necessaries. Sorry about the quality of the pics. I will be replacing with better pics as soon as I get them. These are next to impossible to find and you would be hard pressed to find another in this condition. Antique 1850 Victorian Oak Campaign Writing Chest/ Bureau- Silver Plate Fittings A grand. Unique numbered mid 19th century campaign writing chest in incredible aesthetic condition. The piece has three drawers with silver plated brass handles. The bottom of which contains a silver plate ink well and compartments. The oak body is finished in a very fine shellac which is in exceptional condition throughout. The doors and top of the piece are adorned with shield shaped bosses. A relatively new green baize base has been installed sometime mid 20th century. For a full description of the piece's condition see above. Remarkable Antique Double Stacked Colonial Campaign Chest, Military Furniture
Available for purchase is a remarkable piece- an A nti que(circa late 19th Century) Campaign Chest. It appears to be made of teak wood and it is t wo(2) stacked but separate pieces. Th e top drawe r ac tually folds down into a desk with a green leather inset. The desk has multiple compa rtments and drawe rs. Below this fold- out/down desk drawer there are three over two smaller draw ers complet ing the first(t op) piece. The second(bottom) pi ece is made of two larger dr awers- the same size as the desk drawer. Original fl ush brass milit ary handles and accents(corners) and brass c arrying handles o n its sides. Note the gorgeous wood inlay de coration o n the top of the piece. Dovetail draw er construction. Military furniture was mai nly commissioned by the wealthiest officers for use d uring their international travels. 19th Century Rosewood Campaign Chest/Hummidor Old estate find. This is a nice Antique Rosewood Campaign Chest complete with brass corners and side handles that fold flat against the chest. The chest sits on a small stand to elevate it from the floor, I don't know that it is original with the chest. Inside the chest is a metal lining, I am told it is lead. There is a label on the lid for"Benson and Hedges, Importer of Havana Cigars and Egyptian Cigars" there is an address for London and for Park Avenue in New York City, between Holland House and Waldorf Astoria, at the bottom of the label it says Pat'd 1901. updated information from a fellow ebayer- I have collected and restored many B&H humidors over the years. This humidor was only sold from their New York boutique. It dates from around 1905- 1910 Your asking price ... moreis way too low! The stand alone is worth 300. Good luck! The chest is in good condition. With some wear to the wood on the top, looks like there was some water damage some wear along the way, inside is very nice, brass handles and trim intact, there is a lock but no key. Corporal J.Wilding of the 13TH Hussars.It measures approx 29 3/4" wide, 16" deep& 14" tall.The 13TH Hussars were a very important Cavalry Regiment, they were at Waterloo- Inkerman-Balaklava-The charge of the Light Brigade-India& The Boer War where J.Wilding was promoted to Sergeant& awarded the Queen's South Africa medal. Very well made& very heavy. This chest will have travelled everywhere with the Regiment& is a real piece of our history.The chest has been repainted by the last owner who used it as a coffee table, but the section with the name is totally original& of the period in every way. Antique 1800's Officer's Campaign Chest Trunk Wood Original Key
This is a beautiful Antique Officers Campaign Trunk Chest. Also described as a Barracks Trunk, these were used to transport officers belongings and personal items. This particular trunk has the officers name inscribed. D. Cutler. It's comes with original key. The original transportation label Inspected are still present. It traveled from Glasgow to Us 1886. Can't quite make out date on label. The finish is original check the detail of the grain or finish, dovetail. Amazing to have found such a great piece of history. Would make a beautiful coffee table, blanket chest. Measures 37" x 21 x 20 The chest can be seen and picked up locally at my shop in Imlay City Michigan. We are between Flint and Port Huron off 169. Outstanding antique campaign chest of drawers constructed from pine and stained a deep. Slightly reddish brown. This piece, designed for easy transport during a military campaign, looks like it comes apart in two pieces. The chest has four graduated drawers, each with brass bail handle pulls and key surrounds. The faces of the drawers have been attached with fine dovetail joinery. The entire chest rests on bracket feet that are both solid and decorative. The wood has a wonderful aged patina and the finish has minor wear and some alligatoring, showing off the piece's age. This chest most likely dates from the 1800's. The chest is in good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. There are some breaks to the framing of the drawer faces. This auction is for quite a rare item- an ARMY NAVY C.S.L. makers letter box. Or a small campaign chest. The chest is made of a beautifully patinated oak wood. It has 2 side handles. There are 3 cubby holes on top, 2 drawers under, bottom left- a letter holder& bottom right 2 mail slots with an additional drawer under. The chest is ivorine marked Army Navy C.S.L. makers on the bottom center interior. There is also an ivorine tag for unpaid bills. There were 2 others, marking all the cubbies, but there is only one loose that was saved and could be re-applied. The Army and Navy Co-operative Society Ltd was formed by a group of army and navy officers in 1871. With the intention to supply“articles of domestic consumption and general use to its members at the lowest rates” The first store opened on the 15th February 1872 in Victoria Street, ... moreLondon and supplied shotguns, rifles, pistols, ammunition and related accessories, as well as shirts, watches, saddlery and golfing equipment. By the end of 1873 a separate gun department had been established. By the end of the century the Society was issuing an enormous annual illustrated price list and in 1901 opened branches in Bombay. Delhi, Calcutta and Karachi. In 1934 the name was changed to the Army and Navy Store Ltd. They were taken over by the House of Fraser in 1973. Condition: Please note! This piece should be professionally restored; The door broke off where the hinges are. It is missing its handle. The small piece that is missing in the bottom corner is in one of the drawers. There were 4 holes drilled to the back. One ivorine tag is missing. The letter holder should be able to be completely inserted but it sticks out a bit. I do not want to force it in. Revolutionary War Era Pine Trunk Travel Chest Military Campaign Iron Hardware. We are selling a very old named military campaign chest from the revolutionary war era. This just is constructed with most unusual cuts of wood. The top. Sides and bottom all have one piece planks for construction. I believe this chest was all painted in a hand grain when it was made originally. The inside of the lid has most of the original hand grain still on it. There are a few small spots we can still see the original grain but 98% of it is gone. Chest was also repainted in a grayish color at one time, but most of that gray color is also gone. The iron hardware is all hand forged and mostly still there. The strap hinges were moved at one time is the pictures show. The lock is all may have iron,and in the locked position, with no key. There are remnants of leather ... morehandles on both sides of the chest. The chest has been Nailed and re-screwed and resecured many, many times. The newest nails in the chest look to be close to 100 years old. There are screws, original hand cut nails in the rectangular shape, and the very old, square handcut nails. The owners name was Capt. E. B. Jones. His name is on the front of the chest, the side of the chest, and looks like some other writing on the bottom of the chest which we can't make out. There is also a very small partial shipping label on the front in white paper that reads Cunard lines, NO. 7. The size of the chest is 28 1/4 x 17 x 16" This wonderful little wartime souvenir has all the properties of be in from the Civil War era. The chest is in very rough condition and you are buying it as is and shown. Please look close at the pictures as they are part of the description. Antique Wood Brass Bound Military Campaign Chest Trunk
Antique solid wood and brass military/campaign chest. Brass inlay with brass bound corners and a brass handle on each side of the box. Has fully functioning lock with original key and a green key tassel. Beautiful antique item with boxed sections internally(see photos) The pharmacy bottles shown on the photos are not included with the chest nor did they originally come with the box. Photos are simply to illustrate the inside. I will be listing the bottles for sale separately at a later date. Overall the chest is in good antique condition but as to be expected with an item of this age there are some scratches to the top of the chest and areas where the brass inlay has faded slightly over time. Vintage antique 19th C. Victorian oak CAMPAIGN TWO DRAWER storage CHEST, CABINET
A very attractive antique 19th Century Victorian oak CAMPAIGN TWO DRAWER CABINET. This was originally a cutlery chest that I have had professionally refitted so as to offer a unique and quite beautiful storage cabinet. On the lid is a fitted brass plaque that is engraved and reads‘PRESENTED TO LIZZIE KIRKMAN. BY HER FATHER& MOTHER, ON HER 21st BIRTHDAY, NOVEMBER 19th 1898’ Each end of the cabinet has brass campaign chest handles that are fitted flush and have their original screws and are in very good order. When you lift the lid you are met by a deep storage area fitted out in dark green baize. The attractive and original campaign fold away brass hinges, brass corner plates and brass pin location plates are all in good order and condition. There is a label with a registered number on that reads‘RD. NO. 278968’ When the lid is opened ... morethe fitted brass pins, at the front, that fit in to the tops of the front panels rise thus allowing you to open up the two front panels that close against and secure the drawers. The two drawers have also been refitted in dark green baize therefore making them a lot more useful than when they were fitted out to hold cutlery. Both drawers have there original brass handles. A really attractive and very well made Victorian chest that makes for a beautiful storage cabinet for anything, collections, jewelry etc. The cabinet itself measures 19” long by 13 1/2” wide by 9” high. The bottom drawer is 3” deep, the top drawer is 1 1/2” deep and the top including the inside of the lid offers 2” in storage depth.
