Vintage Round Top Trunk - c.1870s
Round Top Trunk- c.1870s(Sometimes called a Camel Back) This one is in good condition considering the age and has been restored on the exterior. Including new leather handles(pics 3& 5) It is a combination of metal and wood with small caster wheels on the bottom. The interior(pics 6& 7) has the original lining on the lid. But it does not have any lining on the bottom half of the trunk. Note also that the lift-out tray is missing and there are two screws visible on the left hand side(interior) where the hinge attaches to the trunk body(pic 6) The hinge repair is also evident in pic 4, which shows where a small repair hinge has been added. It looks great in almost any decor and is very good for storing Christmas decorations. This is an unusual walnut veneered'sewing or games' box which is permanently fixed to four cabriole legs with pad feet. It has previously been used as a sewing box and the interior is lined with blue silk. The top. Front and back of the box are quarter veneered. There is slight damage to the veneer on one corner of the lid(see photo) the rest of the piece is generally in good condition. General dimensions are 745mm high, 450mm wide and 352mm deep. The box dimensions are 238mm high, 385mm wide and 297mm deep. Enlarge the pictures to see the detail. The standard size dining chair is to give an idea of scale only. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Important vintage leather steamer trunk belonged to Henry McNeal Turner
I bought this leather trunk in February of 2004 at an auction in Charleston SC that had many items that once belonged to Henry McNeal Turner. 12th Bishop of the African Methodist Church. See below for detailed biography. Considering the age, it is in excellent condition. Some of the leather could use some conditioning and the blue string used to make the star on the inside cover is very brittle. There are many compartments in this trunk and all of the hinges and locking mechanisms are there as far as I can tell. The color of the leather on the inside is beautiful and the details worked into this trunk are very very nice. I never cleaned or conditioned this trunk so as to leave it as it came into my possesion. The bottom has 4 metal wheels attached to two wooden skis. I have several more pictures if you would like them and also if you need ... morea picture of a specific part, just ask) The dimensions are 30"x17"x20" Please ask for a shipping quote as I feel that if you do not live close enough to pick this up in person, it needs to be crated before being shipped. Information on This Item This is a classic Mahogany 19th Century Step back Chest with rope twist columns. Scalloped apron, and brass rosettes on the backsplash. The drawer construction is mortise and tendon, and this is as near perfect as any 1850's piece you can hope to find. It measures 42" wide, 18 1/2" deep on each corner and 20" deep at the center. It stands 47 1/4" tall. The top has sandwich cut corners, and original wood knobs. The graceful bowfront design will be a great look in any setting. Beautifully restored antique dome-top steamer trunk. Metal sides and top are embossed with an intricate floral design and braced with oak slats. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with floral braces at the corners. Metal lock and fasteners and front. Two leather side handles have their original wear and really emphasize the age and history of this piece. The inside of the lid has a charming decoupage design. This piece is both decorative and practical for storage. It most likely dates from the late 1800's This piece has been restored and is in very good condition. There is. developed in the mid 1800's was the Saratoga Trunk. The name started based on large trunks used by the wealthier people visiting the spa resort and racetrack at Saratoga Springs. New York. The Saratoga Trunk evolved into a very large, round top style with fancy trim, covered in either leather, canvas, or metal. Early trunk catalogs and ads describe Saratoga trunks as a"large round top of the highest class" Round top and barrel top trunks were made in a wide range of sizes and coverings. Fabulous Antique Grain Painted Cottage Chest With Flowers ca 1800's- Local P-up
Exquisite grain painted cottage chest with the best colors you will ever find! The colors work well with both dark oak and pine since they are very neutral in tone. Grain painting became popular in the mid 1800's when immigrants moved from the northern areas if the US to the west. The west didn't provide the fine wood sources if the north(maple. Oak, cherry etc) So they made the chests and furniture of pine- and often feather painted the surface to appear like the rich nice woods available in the north! The detailing on the drawers is wonderful. I posted a photo of the drawer edge because the chest drawers are put together with dowels. I also posted a photo of the top surface of the chest- it is pretty rough- but I bought it this way years ago! Up for this no reserve listing is an antique doll truck. Or ladies accessory. I'd guess this piece dating from mid to late 1800s. It measures 12" height, 14" wide, and 9"deep. It's covering is leather with a fish scale diamond pattern, and accented with tin or copper embossing on the front and lid. There is also a metal handle on each side and a lockable clasp(lock not included) on the front. All the hardware, including the hinges, is in excellent shape with great patina. The tin accents are peeling off in the corners. There are nicks to the corners and edges, and done wood damage around the clasp(see photos) The lining is in excellent shape! Huge 1890 Louis Vuitton steamer trunk 43"x27"x24" serial number #15792
This is a beautiful Louis Vuitton trunk. Circa 1890. It has the lowest serial number I have seen on the label 15792. Dimensions 43" long, 27.5" high, 24" deep. The exterior of the trunk has been stained, but you can see the original striping of the fabric used on Louis Vuitton trunks at that time. The inside is the original pink stripe ticking. It does have some stains and shows some wear on the interior, but it is in amazing condition for a trunk that is over 120 years old. The locks have since been changed from the original factory locks. This trunk is very sturdy. These steamer trunks were definitely built to last. I will be happy to post additional pictures. No shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, or international.

Except for the handles, trunk actually had the handles when I got it, but they were dry rotted, and became even more damaged in the process of conserving. so I did replace them, now they are great Also replaced was the bottom of the tray. The original bottom was coming loose from tray, and was cracked, so to make this trunk as fully functional as possible I thought it best to do it right! The inside of the trunk has been stripped clear of the inside paper. This is great b/c it gets rid of all old smells many old trunks hold it also makes the trunk free of many allergens the trunk has been left natural. The hardware is gorgeous. Victorian style, trunk style is common or the trunks produced in the late 1800's, 1880's. Large dome. Camel back style. Not slightly domed like some. Very likely belonging to someone from an upper class, usually camel back trunks were bought by people from higher classes, they were more expensive and people bought them b/c they were more beautiful, and b/c they would be placed on the top when they traveled. But the pins are missing and one of the pivots is stiff. So, the top comes completely off. There is some sort of texture. Or film, around the lettering on the front of the box. This box has a lot of wear that includes surface scratches. Dings, surface residue and in need of a very good cleaning as I've made no attempt to do so. Short Trunk Lock, spring-loaded, Nice Patina, with key and screws
I bought these brass plated locks when I was building replica steamer trunks in the early 1970s. They have a natural aged patina. The lock in the photo is typical. The locks in my inventory are the same age so the patina is pretty constant. The one you receive will be this one or a very similar lock. I will include wood screws with brass painted heads to use to install the lock; pre-drill 1/2" deep with 1/8" drill with these wood screws.

It is a rare design e4specially since most of us arn't tall enough to see inside the top row of drawers. Each row consists of either three smaller drawers across, or one large drawer. The entire piece of furniture is made up of two sections, the top and the bottom. The top of the piece fits into the bottom without needing any type of hardware to attach them togather. All that is needed is ... moreto set the top section inside the outer rim of the bottom section. About mis section there is a flat rather thin board which pulls out like one of the drawers, but is intended to act as a folding table. Also there is a very unique large drawer just above that folding one which offers four smaller drawers inside and also four cubby holes each with a compartment just under these little drawers. The entire piece is handmade from frame to finish The workmanship of the day was impeccable and the vaneering composition and application is completely without compare Each drawer is trimmed around the perimetor with a light maple of about a 1/2 inch all around. The chest is roughly two hundred and twenty years old. And I have to underscore just how stable and functional the piece is still. This is not a piece that one has to just look at, this is a full service, everyday working chest that still has many many years of service left in her. Of course certain care needs to be done to ensure that indeed the integrety of her beauty and construction live on and are not compromised. In the late 1800's when steel became more available. Trunks/boxes such as this were more commonly produced for commercial use. This was down to the demand as long expeditions were all the rage, so tough light weight luggage was the way to go. Antique Steamer Trunk, Dome Top, Fully Refinished with tray ca 1880
For your consideration is a ca 1880 dome top steamer trunk. I t has been fully refinished. The originally outside paper covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. The metal covering. Top and front, were sanded, primed and painted with lime green paint and then stain applied to give it an aged look. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The working lock comes with a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has a new tray. This trunk 32" wide X 21" high X 17.5" deep. The cost of packing. Shipping, and insurance is $75 to the lower 48 states. No international shipping. Rare child blanket chest with curved front. Original paint and good condition for its age. It is estimated circa 1960's but it could be earlier. Purchased in 2002 in NY State from a Estate Auction of a Pennsylvania family The chest is in good structural original condition. I have done nothing to it and it appears all original. For your consideration Antique flat top trunk Ca. 1890 with original tray. Handles and canvas covering all in perfect shape. The interior has been stripped. Brushed cleaned, stained, and sealed. The original tray still has the lid to it. Can be removed easily if you don't like it. The exterior canvas is in unusually perfect shape. A copy of a period correct lithograph has been put on the inside of the lid. The handles are original and in perfect shape. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key, & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Two Original Interior Trays Here is an absolutely beautiful fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. If you have been waiting for the magnificent trunk with a tremendous amount of hardware. Then this one is definitely the one for you. It is hard for us to find trunks throughout the year that are really nice like this one. Here are the trunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This beauty is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older ... moredistress marks which include nicks and dings in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these older character marks or distress marks, most of which have accumulated over time. The edge banding on the sides of this trunk is made up of some type of composition. It has some typical small splits or stress cracks in it, one of which we have shown in a close up picture so there won't be any surprises. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, therefore we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker went all out and put lots of fancy hardware on this trunk. This beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. Look at the close up picture and you will see it is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn" We have matched up a key for you that does work properly with this lock. This trunk originally came with leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away and missing, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the same location where the original ones did. 1800S ANTIQUE VICTORIAN STEAMER RARE WALL TRUNK DATED W/LIFT OUT TRAY
Up for consideration is a nice steamer trunk with a lift out tray. It is a Duguid Bros. Wall Trunk from Toledo. Ohio. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. The hinges are dated Dec. 22, 1891. The inside has been tastfully recovered with original lable visable. It is a nice trunk that is sturdy. The measurements are; 30" long x 18" wide x 20" tall. Vintage Steamer Trunk - estimated pre-1900 - unrestored antique
This is an antique steamer trunk. Used for transportation of personal items while traveling by train or the like. The production date is estimated to be pre-1900. You will find this to be a beautiful piece. The condition is a bit rough but as expected for an item that has been used extensively. Imagine this being loaded onto a train car in the early 1900's. I consider it to be in working condition though since the hinges and latches still work. However the key is missing. Some of the leather straps are missing as well but can be replaced for a reasonable price. This would be perfect for use in your entryway. Or for a coffee table or end table.
