It stands 33” tall and the top surface measures 40-1/2” wide and 19” deep. The top drawer front is 6” x 34-1/2” and the lower two drawer fronts measure 8” x 34-1/2” The paint is not recent. Probably from the 1960’s or earlier and it shows a little wear(crazing& cracks) as you may be able to see in the pictures. There is a ring from a can being set on the top. The bottom drawer front fits tight in the opening otherwise all work smoothly. All drawers have locks but there is no key. Antique Primitive Pine Lift Top Trunk Painted Green Tool Chest Country Folk
Antique green lift top chest. Classic primitive or country style. It looks like it was made from pine and has a basic six-panel construction. The top is made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish ... moreand some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. This is a very nice hand painted chest of drawers with a writing desk to the top drawer. To the front it has superb carving with carved pillars to either side. Under the paint work is walnut. The drawers are solid wood with dovetail joints. The desk interiors is satinwood with a secret compartment with a slide over the top. There is a marble to the top. Measurements are 60 high. 23 deep, 38 wide. A great looking piece of antique french furniture.

It is primarily pine with tulip poplar back; some of the drawer bottoms are pine and others poplar and retains its original heavily distressed dark grain painted surface overall. Antique & Primitive Six Board Footed Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Box, Trunk 47"
I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. This antique two-drawer chest has tons of character. The wood looks like oak and has been painted black on the sides and around the drawers on the front. Panelled sides and an overhanging molded top as well as molding at the base. Drawers have intricately designed metal pulls and there are circular wooden escutcheons surrounding the two keyholes. Fabulous Antique Grain Painted Cottage Chest With Flowers ca 1800's- Local P-up
Exquisite grain painted cottage chest with the best colors you will ever find! The colors work well with both dark oak and pine since they are very neutral in tone. Grain painting became popular in the mid 1800's when immigrants moved from the northern areas if the US to the west. The west didn't provide the fine wood sources if the north(maple. Oak, cherry etc) So they made the chests and furniture of pine- and often feather painted the surface to appear like the rich nice woods available in the north! The detailing on the drawers is wonderful. I posted a photo of the drawer edge because the chest drawers are put together with dowels. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. Also note the quality touch of the small round wooden projectiles in the rear to keep the chest from hitting the wall and making the lid difficult to open. WOW.When I saw this I was just blown away by it. First thing was the size. Most blanket chests are big. And bulky. This chest is a great size. It is 37" high x 35" wide x 15" deep. The 2nd thing was the condition. The condition is A1. Some very minor scratches and that's it. The 3rd thing that caught my attention was the quality. The design( a true copy of an 18th century blanket chest) and craftsmanship is top shelf. And THEN.the painting. It is signed, and I can't make it out, but whoever did it was really good. Painted on three sides with a beautiful traditional floral motif. I believe at least the ends have been painted with a vinegaring technique. The box is probably made of pine and the top is cracked, appears to have been repaired(maybe with a bit of putty? in a couple of places, and has damage at the corners. The hinges are newer but the original early 1800's metal straps are still intact, as are the handles at either end, and there are the best reenforcing metal pieces at the corners. This box is on a footed piece that wraps all the way around and may be newer. WOW! I mean W.O.W. FRESH from an incredible estate this past weekend. This OLD(avid collectors) estate was packed with EARLY AMERICAN items-furniture. Boxes, chests, maps, ect. I snatched this baby up! This early Pennsylvania chest is gorgeous-all hand made-dovetailed construction with square nails. BEAUTIFUL original paint! Signed several times in several places on the bottom-I can only make one out for sure-Amanda Batz. If you google her, you will find right away an Amanda Batz who was born in Pennsylvania on May 1st, 1836. I don't know if this was passed down to her or painted by her? There are other names and possibly dates which, with a little more time and effort, could probably be made out and someone could probably figure out when and for whom and possibly by whom this was made. I will leave this enticing mystery for the lucky ... morenew owner to solve! A COLLECTORS DREAM! Almost 19" across. A little over 11" tall and almost 10&1/2" deep. Excellent. AMERICAN RECESSED PANEL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST Probably Lancaster or Montgomery County. Pennsylvania c. 1820-40 Item# 130110PZS26 This is an exceptional piece in untouched condition. The two board top is delightfully painted in a somewhat scrubbed brown on cream. Surrounded by an ogival molding affixed with a series of cut iron nails. It lifts on original steel hinges to reveal it's original untouched till and a spacious interior constructed using double-pinned tenon mortise construction with panels set into the mitered frame. The grain painted facade of the chest is highlighted with the recessed panels framed in cream molding, these with a delightful maroon wash that still allows the sharply ribbed grains to show through brilliantly. Identical to the front, the back of the chest is constructed with a recessed panel, the entire back with ... morea red painted wash. Resting over it's original ogee molded base, the case was crafted without feet, the underside remaining untouched and fully original. This is an absolute treasure for serious collectors of American Folk Art and period works from Pennsylvania. In untouched and very fine condition. This piece remains in an admirable state of preservation throughout. Measurements: 37 1/2" wide x 17 1/2" deep x 16 7/8" high Condition Report: Untouched worn original painted surface. Original untouched hardware(lock. Hinges, latch all original) no key available. String and eyehooks are probably later, though the eyehook on the lid is hand forged and possibly original. A few later nails in the molding strengthening this. Overall very fine condition. Please review all images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.

For sale we have a Pennsylvania Painted/Decorated Blanket Chest of dovetailed construction. With three drawers and flat bracket feet. The arched tombstone panels on both the top surface and the front panel are dappled in a dark blue/green hue with a sunburst design in each arch. The tombstone panels are surrounded by an eye catching sawtooth design. The drawer fronts are painted in the same blue/green color and have brass pulls. Primitive Antique Folk Art Painted Trunk Chest Old estate find. This is a nice early trunk that has been decorated on all sides with folk art paintings. I do not know the age of the painting but it is charming and colorful. On the top of the trunk there is writing in script that says"He who gives a child a treat- makes joy bells ring in heaven's street" The oval with the writing is bordered with flowers and figures. There is a house on the front with a woman and man, a rocking horse on the ends and two angels on the back. Nice painted border around the top and bottom edge. Red Painted American Blanket Chest over Drawer Primarily Yellow Pine. 19th Century Item# 130010CPL26 This is a very attractive Painted American Blanket Chest over a single Drawer retaining an early grungy surface over earlier surfaces of the same color. It is a six-plank blanket chest. Crafted practically in a somewhat crude and certainly rural manner; the face and back are nailed into the sides of the case with square iron nails, this hidden behind half-round black painted molding outlining the facade of the case. The bottom board is nailed in even rows along the sides and along the back, beneath which a single drawer slides in and out of the case. The drawer construction matches that of the case, the joints half-lapped and nailed with iron rose heads, these resting over runners of the same[unidentified] hardwood nailed to the sides of the ... morecase with iron rose heads. The single plank top lifts over original cotter pin hinges supplemented by modern hinges for strength, these modern hinges actually the second set of hinges placed on the case to supplement the cotter pins. The result is a smooth operating top, lifting easily to reveal a large storage area and original steel lock(no key) The cleats flanking the case are nailed to the underside of the lid with a series of even rose heads. All of the brasses are added for effect, the original case having only wooden knobs on the lower drawer at some point before it was painted. The case terminates over boot-jack feet. For anyone passionate about country-style American Painted antiques. This is a beautiful little piece that is not only rather eye-catching, but also quite practical. With a well worn and heavily patinated surface testifying to years of use and enjoyment, the chest remains young in terms of strength and possible length of life if well cared for. This is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The flower painting is in pretty good shape on the sides and on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46 inches wide by 23 inches deep by 25 inches high. It has been passed down in my family for several generations. I can remember it always being in a guest bedroom in my grandparents home and they were art and antique collectors. I am in the process of downsizing and I have quite a few pieces to sell. I would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. This picturesque immigrant trunk or chest is wormy pine with hand painted floral motifs resembling traditional Scandinavian rosemaling. Hand planed with hand cut corner dovetails. This furniture has a beautiful old finish. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. The interior is very clean. A 19th century painted blanket chest. Dovetailed throughout, in need of restoration or display as is. The surface is very worn and dry and we believe it to be original. Working lock and key. The hinges, while old, are replacements; the lock we believe is original. There is significant damage/loss to the bun feet. Lots of dings, scratches, wear and tear. Repairs to the area around the hinges on the back of the piece. The piece measures approximately 15" tall(including 2" bun feet) 27" wide, and 14.25" deep. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Antique Pennsylvania Blanket Chest Painted and Dated 1850 / Folk Art 19th Cent
Here a fine mid 19th century Pennsylvania blanket chest. Perhaps it was a wedding present for Marion and Leroy. It is constructed of pine with all surfaces painted with the exception of the inside and bottom. It is a very nice display size with outside measurements of 36" wide. 22" tall and 18" deep. The folk painted surfaces have some wear as shown and there is fine crazing/ oxidation attributable to the age. Very fine shape for 164 years old. Nice forged strap hinges. I believe the 2 pieces of wood to reinforce the underside of the top were been added in the 20th century. It is very solid throughout. C. 1820-40 Item# 1406XCY28P This precious find is in untouched condition. Retaining originality in every aspect of the facade and structure- most importantly, the delightful scrolled front feet are untouched and entirely original to the case. The grain painted surface is a kaleidoscope of chaotic but nearly symmetrical pigment, mostly blends of ochre, the resulting effect highly understated, only fully developing in the eye after looking upon the surfaces for a period of time. It is a deeply patinated surface, the whole full of character and craquelure amidst the oxidized chips, dings and abrasions. Most of the chest is crafted of large planks of Yellow Pine, ... morethese dovetailed along the sides and back. The till lid is Yellow Poplar and the feet are undetermined. The back feet are just as magnetic as the front, the form in an overall taper embellished by scratch-beading in the swell and relieved by swelling rings over the ball toes. They were crafted with a slight lift over the front feet, giving the entire chest the slightest"downward" slant- the effect of this is rather ingenious, relieving the squareness of the profile by giving a more full view of the top. The top lifts over"Baldwin" hinges, one of the most active and well respected hinge foundries in the UK during the 19th century. A truly remarkable find. Particularly in it's simply stunning untouched condition. Measurements: 24 1/4" high x 38 3/4" wide x 19" deep Condition Report: Original grain painted surface with craquelure throughout- numerous areas of wear. Antique painted miniature chest/trunk/possibly sailor-made/mid 1800s
I am very used to seeing chests of this design in a large format. This is a little one. It's an antique sea-chest style chest in green paint and decorated with motifs very typical of sailor-made chests. It may very well have been made by a sailor for his wife or daughter. I would say it dates to the mid-1800s. The top carries 4 hearts in the corners and a five-pointed star in the center. There are two stars on the front section- one in each top corner. I would say the green paint is original to the piece. Size is great. Allowing the buyer to put it almost anywhere. The top is 17&1/4" across and 11&1/2" deep. It is 8" high. Condition is as shown. Please look at all photos to form your own opinion of quality and condition. The decorative elements are applied(possibly paper) and there is some loss. The star on the ... moretop looks to be painted. The stars on the front look to be applied. There is a very old crack on the back which shows wood loss connected to it on the inside. I purchased this chest from a dealer friend- as it was missing the red trim around the top, he very recently replaced it with new wood and did his best to match the original red to the trim on the lower portion. I think he was successful because the chest shows very well. Overall, based on the design and diminutive size, this is a special little chest that would fit into any folk art or marine collection. American Green Painted Antique Blanket Chest, Pennsylvania c. Mid 19th Century
AMERICAN GREEN PAINTED PINE BLANKET CHEST. PENNSYLVANIA 19th Century with Dovetailed Feet Signed on bottom"Jonas Cros.y" and inscribed in lid"Amelia Saltsmon" Item# 1409AIU01P This is a wonderful early 19th Century painted blanket chest from Southeastern Pennsylvania. The surface dry and worn with an early green paint. The surface is plain and undisturbed with embellishment, the whole being deeply oxidized and full of charming wear. The construction is standard and uncomplicated, the exterior of the case crafted of six broad planks of Eastern White Pine, the sides and bottom joined with exposed dovetail construction. The base is affixed with a series of small pegs and the feet are delicate little brackets with exposed dovetailing to the front and sides. Likewise, the molding around the top is affixed with pegs set at regular ... moreintervals, the lid lifting on original wrought iron strap hinges affixed with mostly original screws. The original steel lock and catch survive in the case, though no key is available. The till is somewhat unique, the outer edge lifting in grooves on either side to reveal a compartment below the till- the lifting wall is not unusual, but this usually reveals drawers instead of this tidy compartment. The bottom of the case is inscribed in a now faded ink"Jonas Cros.y" the J and the C both being quite accomplished with extensive swirling. This form is easily incorporated into modern decor in so many ways. Including as a coffee table, an entertainment stand beneath a flat screen, while also working wonderfully in front of a period bed as it was intended. It is a striking piece that will certainly be cherished in your home for a lifetime. Measurements: 48 9/16" W x 18 3/4" D x 18 3/4" H Condition Report: Early dry green surface not the first with remnants of gray and lower layers with traces of red; surface is worn and scratched. ANTIQUE HAND PAINTED CHEST TRUNK WITH DATE 1876
We are relisting this wonderful chest because we did receive payment for it. This great antique chest came from the estate of an antiques dealer in Connecticut. The family was disposing of some of the pieces since the house was being renovated. This chest has a wonderful look with its aged patina and hand painted design. The front shows a date of 1876 but no one knew what the represented so it may not have been from that era. The colors are still good with some paint wear and streaks. The side panels have a red& black geometric pattern that shows lighter than it actually is. There are slight remnants on the top from some paint but it is difficult to see. The chest is dovetailed with square nails. Some of which are missing. The hinges look like replacements but are hand made and old, one has partially broken on the inside. There is what ... moreappears to be the original lock and escutcheon but no key and the top section on the lid is missing. There are splits, cracks, chips in the wood and there is surface wear as indentations/gouges but they have been worn smooth over the years from use. Some of the square nails are loosening. The inside of the top and bottom have sharp"nail" points sticking out with some small pieces of a paper or material that probably lined the chest. There are signs of a couple of small repairs made many years ago. The chest measures approximately 34 1/2"W x 16 1/4"D x 13"H. This is being listed as"For Pickup Only" please email with questions. Sweet wooden antique trunk painted in a very bright red paint. Lots of patina. Wear to the paint, wear to the wood. Dating is approximate, as I can tell it's quite old but I'm not an expert. I took a close up pic of a nail that's sticking out near the bottom of the trunk, which you will see has a square or rectangular head and appears to NOT be machine-made. American Federal Painted Antique Blanket Chest, Pennsylvania, Early 19th Century
FINE AMERICAN FEDERAL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST ON FLARED FRENCH FEET Pennsylvania. C. Second Quarter of the 19th Century Item# 410SLU18 A very striking use of the flared foot in the blanket chest. The taste for Neoclassical austerity quickly translated into even the most functional of rural furnishings in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. These developments are clear in the angular reeded molding around the base, the softened scrolling of the returns around the feet and the simple escutcheon employed at the lock. Beyond these design changes, the structure of the chest remains unchanged from the late eighteenth-century form- the projecting molding around the top is affixed on a tongue-in-groove with an even series of wooden pins driven into the top, this raising on it's original rectangular cast iron hinges. The case leaves all ... moredovetailing along the front, sides and back exposed- the dovetails were considered a mark of excellent craftsmanship and were a proud part of the form, something to be displayed and considered by the customer of the day. The dovetailing continues in the back of the case through the rear foot supports, these affixed with large and carefully cut dovetails to the facings, all feet also supported with the typical bevelled horizontal blocking and large vertical interior blocks(two replaced, one absent, one original) Retaining it's original burgundy red painted surface. This chest is an absolute treasure of a find- the state of preservation throughout is remarkable with only the most minor of touch ups, the whole being free of any restoration after two hundred years of use. It was clearly cherished by it's owners. The bottom of the interior has a large scrolled inscription that is illegible to us, a more tidy but still illegible inscription beside the lock(not pictured) For any serious collector of Americana. ANTIQUE PAINTED BLANKET CHEST FROM THE MARITIMES
A GREAT DECORATIVE ITEM FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON1 A painted pine blanket chest discovered in Nova Scotia. It is solid pine boards with through dovetailed corners. The top measures 19 1/2" wide by 46 1/2" long. Inside it measures 16 1/2" by 41 1/2" by 18" deep. The overall height from the floor is 25 1/2" It is quite fancifully painted on the front with a date of 1890. It has a keep with a lid inside and a great lock and key. The lid shows more age and wear than the front with some staining. The photos are representative of the overall chests condition. The item is for pickup in Laconia N.H. by either buyer or his agent. No crating is available by seller.
