The candlesticks have hexagonal bases and are decorated with an elegant beaded border at the bottom. Shoulders and rim of the bobeches or wax drips. The tops of the candlesticks have grooves so that the removable bobeches will sit oriented a certain way. This can be seen in the 3rd photo. The majority of the weight is solid silver, and the weighting, what little there is, is only in a small section of the base. Please see photos. Each stick is monogrammed on the underside with the initials MLD in cursive script, and cannot be seen unless the candlesticks are turned upside down. The candlesticks are very elegant and will make a beautiful statement on any table. It is also quite nice to find a matching set of four candlesticks. The candlesticks are marked on the underside with TIFFANY& CO MAKERS. STERLING SILVER for the purity, the letter T for the directorship of Charles L. Tiffany from 1892-1902, and the numbers 12039 and 7644. The candlesticks are in great condition. Especially considering their age. Two of the candlesticks have had minor solder repairs to a bottom corner of their shafts. This is not very noticeable except on close inspection. There are small dimples here and there to the sticks, which is common in sticks this old. There are no breaks, no splits, no cracks, no monogrammed removals and no other repairs. The candlesticks measure about 4 1/4 inches square at the base and approximately 9 1/4 inches tall. The total weight is 2203 grams or 77.2 ounces. Cambridge Glass circa 1920 Azurite Blue with purple irridescent treatment! Very rare indeed! At first blush some might say I have it all wrong. And call this pair of candlesticks"Northwood's style#657" In many ways that would be right, but Northwood's style#657 candlestick is 8" tall with a 4-1/2" base. The pair I have available is 1-1/2" shorter and the base is 1/2" smaller. And recall. Harry Northwood sold his company to National Glass, and in 1901 National became one of the 21 factories under the ownership of Cambridge Glass. Cambridge then owned most all of the old molds and re-introduced this candlestick in Azurite Blue in January 1920 at the Philidelphia glass trade show with great success. It was made without irridescence, but also with(like the original Northwood candlestick) in brown, green, ... moreand purple. The purple irridescent treatment on this pair is ever so slight. And provides an almost opalescent effect. This lovely pair of candlesticks is also adorned with gold trim(I don't believe the Northwood candlestick had gold trim) As you can see, the gold is still intact, particularly strong on the base, but about 50% faded around the cup rim& neck. If you're so inclined. it would be simple to reapply. The most important consideration is the condition- which is absolutely terrific. I took several photographs so you can rest assured there are zero chips, nicks, ticks or other discriptors that identify damage.
