It's been in the family many generations- really not sure how far back it goes- at least to the early'20s and maybe way further. It has a rough feel to the top of the base and each spiral but is smooth underneath. I thought because of this rough feeling and yellow color it was vaseline glass. But after reading about vaseline glass I really can't say. Anyone out there know anything about this? The base measures 5-inches across and it is 3-inches in height. There are a number of air bubbles in the base. Right under the top lip on one side there is a 5/8-inch chip. Which you can see in one of the photos. This auction is for a single pressed glass Dolphin Candlestick made by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. It dates to the middle of the nineteenth century. The stick is 10 inches tall and it rests on a single base that measures 4 inches by 4 inches. It is constructed in two parts and joined with a glass wafer* This candlestick is in excellent condition with no damage and just the right amount of normal wear. The final picture shows a comparison of the candlestick attributed to Sandwich with a double base stick known to have been made by other glass houses at the time. Remember. You are buying the single candlestick. This is an absolute auction with no reserve and a modest opening bid. What's a glass wafer? The molds that were used to make pressed glass in the early 19th century were somewhat small. Large items like lamps and candlesticks ... morewere made in two parts and joined by a thin section of molten glass called a wafer. The wafer is located just above the dolphin's tale.
