Valhalla custom-designed window sparkles with bevels galore in a rather bold design! A large beveled scallop fills the center of the panel. And from it flows curved bevels in a scrolling design. Vertical rectangular bevels line the panel, of which some are topped with round bevels giving the impression of candlesticks. Additional round bevels fleck the panel as well. The candlesticks are almost certainly Anglo-Irish in origin. They date to the 1800s. But they could be as early as the 1700s. We believe they date from the first half of the 1800s. They are certainly old. The stem has a large, tear-shaped globe at the lower end with a large tear-drop shaped control bubble blown in its center. The glass is nicely cut with various geometric designs. The candlesticks have good weight. The candlesticks are not marked. As should be expected. The candlesticks are in excellent condition. The glass has a bit of wear on the underside. Just as you would expect on pieces of this age. Both candlesticks have a few minor flakes ... moreand fleabites here and there, almost entirely along the bottom edge where the candlesticks would meet the table, but these minor flaws are not very noticeable. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The candlesticks measure 4 1/2 inches in diameter at the base and 9 3/4 inches tall. Antique Boston & Sandwich Canary Vaseline Glass Candlesticks 6" Petal & Loop
This is a very nice pair of antique Boston& Sandwich Glass Company canary vaseline glass petal and loop candlesticks or candle holders. They stand 6" tall with a 4 1/4" base diameter. The candle opening is 1" in diameter. They were mold-blown. They are in good condition. Though there are some issues. The brighter one has some chips around the base and a small crack at the mouth. The duller one has an obvious crack in the mouth that goes all the way through around the neck. It does seem stable. It also has some chips around the base. Please see photos for details. I am happy to provide more photos upon request. The tops appear to have been cut down. These are quite old. Dating between 1825 and 1860. Please contact me with any questions. This auction is for a fabulous pair of T345 Chippendale 9 1/2 inch tall crystal candlesticks. 4 inch base. The bottoms are not scratched. Indicating these must not have been used very much! The quality of the glass is outstanding and would look great on your table! The only flaw I could find comes from the manufacturing process; one of the candle-cups is not aligned with the base. For your consideration is a perfectly matched pair of clear glass. 5” single keyhole candlesticks made by the Cambridge Glass Company. They are decorated in the etched Wildflower pattern(3400/646) on the round base. And have gold gilding around the base and top. The candlesticks in this pattern were first introduced in 1937 and were discontinued in 1958. During the period from 1949 to 1953 the Wildflower pattern was enhanced with the addition of encrusted gold and gold edging. The process of adding gold was done on a limited basis and then only to a very few items. This dates these candlesticks to the time period of 1949 to 1953 and explains their rarity. Up for auction is an excellent pair of clambroth/ clam broth color EAPG candlesticks that have the North Wind symbol on the base of the candlesticks. The candlesticks measure 7-3/4" tall and the base is 3-3/4" square. The pictures show that the candlesticks are slightly green(bad lighting) but they are actually clambroth color. There are no chips. BEAUTIFUL TEAL BLUE SANDWICH? GLASS 7 INCH CANDLESTICKS EIGHTEENTH CENTURY? NR
This auction is for a pair of 7 inch teal blue candlesticks. Which I suspect were made at the Boston and Sandwich Glass factory, which existed here on Cape Cod in the nineteenth century. I bought them from a very elderly lady who said they were her grandmother's. They also look like the Sandwich candlesticks I have had, though I don't recognize this pattern. The bases are ground flat, and they are hexagonal. Three seams extend upward from the base to the top of the sockets. The corners of the hexagonal base have lines going up to the socket on both sticks, and you can feel the three seams of the mold on the outside of the candlesticks when you rub these line with your fingertips. Every other line has a raised prominence, and you can see the seams on the inside. There is a definite chip, a very small one fleabite size, on the top edge ... moreof the bottom rim on one of the candlesticks. There are rough spots on the vetical edges of the hexagonal base, but most of this roughness occurs in the middle of the vertical edges, right where the side points of the diamond motif meet. I think most of this roughness is from the factory, and it's because of the design. I'm not at all sure the roughness on the vertical edges is damage at all, but the small chip on the top edge of the base is damage for sure. If you study the detail photos of the base, you'll see what I mean. I see some'straw marks' in the glass, but there is little wear to the candlesticks, not even to the base. A lovely pair of late 19th century molded Cambridge or Butler Bros. clear glass candlesticks. 7 1/8" tall. Tops are 2 1/4" square. Bases are approximately 3 1/4" square. And hollow 2 3/4" up from the bottom. Very fine condition. No damage from chips. Cracks or scratches. Mold lines can be seen as well as air bubbles. Check out my other items! Be sure to add me to your favorites list! 2 Antique Mercury Glass Candlesticks. History of Mercury Glass: Silvered glass. Also know as Mercury Glass(or sometimes, Varnish Glass) is double-walled glassware with a silver coating inside the walls, similar to the silvering on a vacuum flask liner. The first patent for silvered glass was taken out in 1849 by Hale Thomson and Edward Varnish in England. Shortly afterwards, in 1855, Thomas Leighton of the New England Glass Company took out a patent in America. The demand for silvered glass led to production in glass-houses in England. Germany, France, Belgium, the USA, and Bohemia, many with their own production processes. In England Edward Varnish and his partners sold silvered glass for only about ten years. They had a major display at the The Great Exhibition in the Crystal ... morePalace in 1851. The main production from about 1860 onwards came from glassworks in the Bohemian forest. Huge quantities of silvered glass left the factories at Iglau and Haida. Where the whole region was geared for its production. In Germany this type of glass was known as Bauernsilber- farmer's silver or peasant silver. In England it was often called poor man's silver. The most common mixtures used to make silvered or mercury glass were solutions of silver nitrate with some form of glucose. At Whitefriars Glassworks in London they made silvered glass for Edward Varnish and Hale Thomson using silver nitrate mixed with grape juice. Each manufacturer had their own recipe. Which was a closely guarded secret. The silvering liquid was poured into the space between the walls of the glass vessel through a hole in the bottom, and it adhered to the glass. The residue was drained off, the inside dried, and some form of seal placed over the hole. Other finishing techniques included glass or metal discs or plugs, and the integrity of the finished ware depended to some extent on the seal. One of Kovel's Antiques and Collectibles guide shows this exact pair illustrated as Fry Art Glass. Fry's foval candlesticks were made for only two years. 1926-1927 and typically decorated with delft blue threading or a jade green. There are no marks on the candlesticks so I am not attributing these to the H.C. Fry Glass Company. But they are certainly beautiful and wonderful quality and color.
