This is another item I am listing for a neighbor/friend. His parents purchased this at an auction about 40 yrs ago and at that time it was said to be about 100 yrs old. Sheraton Style Mahogany Chest of Drawers from CT ca 1800
This is your chance to own a piece of Connecticut history. This bureau is a family heirloom coming from an 18th century farm in Old Lyme. It is in very good condition for a piece that is about 200 years old. The top drawer is faced with crotch-split mahogany surrounded by inlay. Each drawer face is framed with beading. The beading is missing in a couple of places from use over the years. Each of the drawers has a lock but we have no keys for them. The hollow brass hardware is original to the piece. Some of the pulls will need repair but the brass is all there. The varnish is crazed from age and it may be the original finish. The mahogany is split in a couple of places from age and there are a couple of nicks in the veneer, all adding to the patina of the piece. The drawers are constructed of poplar. We removed it and our intention was to just put a finish on it, but I laid a piece of leather on it and wow it was beautiful. So it stayed. It was made for and was in a state park here in Texas until they had to remodel the cabins. The top drawer has some writing, which I left alone. It is made of cypresss. I have for sale an antique chest of drawers/ dresser. Made of pine. It is built in the French provincial/ Swedish country style. It has five drawers. It is missing one knob. The knobs are not original. They were purchased at Anthropologie store. The chest is 50" tall. 34" wide, and 18" deep. Each drawer has inner dimension of: 27" wide. 14" deep and 7" tall. Round figured knobs appear to be original. Drawers have hand-cut lap dovetails and cockbeading of the type brought into use starting in the 1770s. Overall condition is excellent. There is a chip approximately 1" long from the veneer along the front right edge. Which no doubt can be easily repaired by a professional. Overall condition of the veneer is excellent, but there is some buckling on the left side of the piece, consistent with its age. Bottom features bracketed feet and an elegant shaped skirt on front and sides. French Louis XVI Style Marquetry Inlaid Demilune Marble Topped Commode Early 20th Century Item# 130008LWP26 Simply gorgeous and perfectly preserved in every way. This fine French Louis XVI Style Commode is simply above reproach. At least a century after being crafted entirely by hand, the commode remains in nearly identical condition to when it left the shop. Clearly maintained in a home that cared for it and kept humidity at a stable level throughout it's life, the piece does not display the typical issues commonly associated with these heavily inlaid works of art. The mixed stone brèche d'Alep top is a wonderful variated surface. Full of color and activity, completed with a thin molded channel around the edge of the demilune form. The facade is a mix of five drawers and two cabinet doors; the top drawer is broad with crossbanded ... moreveneers framed in olivewood stringer inlay. It rests over a pair of drawers with a continuous inlaid image of a vase overflowing with flowers and foliage, hanging from a bow-tied ribbon draped on the keyhole escutcheon over a cross banded ground and framed in the same stepped rectangular olivewood stringer inlay that completes each drawer and door. The inlay is incredible intricate. And remarkably there is no peeling or lifting along the edges of this veneer, as typically happens when the piece is stored in an environment with poorly controlled temperature and humidity. On either side of the cabinet, small drawers swing outwards over the cabinet doors, these hand dovetailed at the back of each. The cabinet space is divided with a single shelf. The entire commode rests over turned and tapered legs that are topped and terminated in brass mounts. This is an outstanding find for any collector of French Louis XV and XVI antique furniture. Specifically if you seek out utmost quality in your furnishings. This state of preservation is difficult to find and is highly desirable by collectors and decorators alike. The original drawer locks are all in place and in excellent working order using the beautiful key I had made. The top of the dresser has incredible patina and some of the finest grain figuring you will see.The top is first class all the way. All drawers were totally rebuilt and slide like silk. An American made classic. beautiful solid cherry wood chest of drawers.this dates from Circa 1875 This piece dates from the Colonial Revival period. I restore antique and make custom furniture. I rescued this gorgeous chest. It was on it's way to a landfill, buried beneath a dark brown paint.I was intirgued by it's design, but I fell in love with this piece when I saw the stunning wood grains hidden under the brown paint. The wood is solid cherry with wonderful, rich grains and textures. Some parts of this chest may be red birch or maple.The cherry wood is both sapwood and heartwood. This accounts for the varied colors and grain patterns, in this beautiful chest The side panels are cherry veneered plywood.I love the blackened grain highlights on the side panels. It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers& glides/runners have been fully restored and slide ... moreexcellent. The Sheraton style legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many. Many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Like any fine antique.You will find character marks and minor imperfections in the this piece, such as nick, dings, filled holes, they add character and patina to this wonderful chest. The chest is rock solid, stable and ready to"set it and forget it" there are no issues needing attention, just use it and enjoy it for years to come. As you can easily see. Sheraton Chest of Drawers with Carvings
This is a piece of furniture that stops you in your tracks. Solid. Lusterous cherry on top and sides, with flame mahogany veneer on the drawers done in a repeating pattern that resembles a bird in flight. Archetypal big round brasses hardware and simple, folksy carvings running along the bottom length of the leg, finishing off with scrolled feet. There is a bit of nicking to the veneer in a few places, but its old damage and somehow looks inherent. Other than that, it is in amazing condition. The drawers are smooth and the wood is beautiful. Looks like it was refinished a while back. Very, very heavy and solid. One of the nicest large bureaus I've seen-and an unusual example of Sheraton. 38" tall x 21 3/4" deep x 42 3/4" wide. For your consideration, this beautiful Burl Walnut Victorian Lock-side Chest of Drawers with Fold-Out Desk(Circa: 1880) This handsome Victorian Lock-side Chest has its original intact lock and a working key and measures 57” in height, 36 ¾” in width, and 20” in depth. The weight is approximately 120 pounds. The top of this handsome chest is graced with scalloped mounding. And incised carved linear designs with burl sconces on the top corners. The front sides of this lovely chest are adorned with incised carved burl sconces on the top corners that extend into fluted detailing and incised carved pediments. The original locking mechanism is intact on this gorgeous chest and a working key is included. Notice the fancy brass key escutcheons. This beautiful chest appears to have six drawers, but the third drawer ... moredown opens to reveal a fold-out desk compartment which consists of five pigeon-holes, a new black felt writing surface, birds-eye maple surface, along with beautiful pierced side galleries with sunflower carved details. The chest of drawers is laid out with one large upper drawer over three smaller graduated drawers. Each drawer is finely dovetailed and faced with later replaced brasses but retains original early 19th century period brass escutcheons. The chest has a later finish but shows wonderful remnants of the original salmon wash finish. The four legs are original to the chest but have had small repairs throughout the years. Up for auction is a circa 1800 Federal chest of four drawers. Solid cherry top. Sides, and drawer fronts. The side boards and top board is 7/8"thick. Original splayed Federal legs. Measures 38" high x 41" wide x 18" deep. The backboard adds another 6" to the height. Drawer interiors are pine with early dovetail joints and chamfered drawer bottoms. A good looking functional federal period piece of furniture. At some point in time the chest was refinished, and the original drawer pulls were replaced. The price is $750. For local pick-up only.
