Condition: Used Location: Baltimore, United States RARE 1800's(It may be 1700's) ANTIQUE EARLY America FOLK ART HAND PAINTED TRUNK BLANKET CHEST Very old and yes I WILL SHIP TO YOUR ADDRESS Up ... morefor sale is this amazing hand painted trunk or blanket chest. It's a beautiful trunk with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has red white and blue with some green accents. The paint appears to be painted over what appears to be a green trunk that has some Romanian name lettering on the front. It was probably a trunk that originally came over by ship then painted by the owner after getting to America. This is all original and has nicks. Chips and scrapes, and worm marks on it as you'd expect from an item of this age. The painting on the front and sides is very colorful and worn through several areas to base color. Wow! That's amazing! The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside. The trunk is clean. There's a little tray on the left side inside, and it still has the original cover or lid to the tray. One of the hinges on the lid of the trunk was replaced at some point but is still old. The hardware on the sides is old and ornate. There are no square nails in this trunk that we can see and there are a number of worm holes at the bottom of the front and under the front lip. This is typical for old trunks like this as they've been around the block(and world) It's an nice size and is 39" wide(at the lid) L x 16" W x 14" H. It weighs about 50 lbs. we'd guess. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It's one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Let me know if you have any questions. I am not positive it is pine wood it may be poplar but it is light. This can be picked up at my house within 3 days of auction end.
