The Mixtec region and the Mixtec peoples are traditionally divided into highland Mixtecs or mixteca alta in northeast Guerrero and western Oaxaca, and ... moreLowland Mixtecs or mixteca baja northwest Oaxaca and southwest Puebla and Coastal Mixtecs inhabiting the pacific slope of southern Oaxaca and Guerrero. The Mixtecan languages form a major branch of the Otomanguean language family. In precolumbian times, a number of Mixtecan city states competed with each other and with the Zapotec kingdoms. The major Mixtec polity was Tututepec which rose to prominence in the 11th century under the leadership of Eight Deer Jaguar Claw- the only Mixtec king to ever unite the Highland and Lowland polities into a single state. Like the rest of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, the Mixtec were conquered by the Spanish invaders and their indigenous allies in the 16th century. pre columbian Book Ceramic Pottery Bible Ecuador w/special features very RARE
You have the opportunity to bid on a very nice and informative reference book. Actually. A wonderful book about the pre-Columbian Ecuador and its pre-Columbian treasures(many Ceramic, a little Shells and Stone) The book has some very interesting features. All items in the catalog are described individually and in detail and at length at the end of the book. And can be used as a reference. For me personally, there is a very special features, a traditional and made by scientists Chronology. And a chronology TL(TL = laboratory test to determine the burning age) Here there are significant differences that provide the data given the professionals in question. An example: Machallila, experts indicated by 1500-900BC, TL test results of 2600-600BC. In my opinion you can reproduce this on all areas of pre-Columbian ceramics and one should not look ... moreso stiff the classification of the times of the cultures. Books on the pre-Columbian Ecuador and its cultures are very very rarely offered and I have here the only thing I've ever had in my hands. For lovers of this pre-Columbian area a real reference book with great pictures and descriptions. With all Cultures of the ancient Ecuador Softcover very good condition 1.4kg(3 Pounds) heavy(Sorry. But that's the reason for the shipping cost, but worth it! For a reference book) 11-3/4"high(29cm) 240 pages Year of publication 2005 in English Original Title: Clay Shamans and Stone Jaguars. The Ancient Art of Ecuador Very well bidding! I prefer PayPal outside European Union! It possible its works 2-3 weeks from Germany to the states. Rare Pre-Columbian Wheeled Jaguar Effigy-Toy/ Mayan-Vera Cruz-Mexico 200-1200 AD
Rare Pre-Columbian Wheeled Jaguar Effigy- Toy Vera Cruz- Mayan Classic to Late Post-Classic Period 250 AD-1200 AD ~ please scroll down for more photos and information ~ SIZE: Length- 4 1/2” 11 cm) Width- 2 1/4” 5.5 cm) Height- 2 5/8” 6.5 cm) DESCRIPTION: Very rare Pre-Columbian ceramic toy or effigy with four wheels in the form of a Jaguar. Late Classic or Post-Classic Mayan or Vera Cruz Culture- Circa 250 AD- 1200 AD. El Salvador or Mexico. A number of these wheeled pieces are known and are thought to date from the Classic to Late Post-Classic Mayan Period(250 AD- 1200 AD) Various attributions for similar objects are to the Olmec. Mayan, Toltec, and Vera Cruz cultures, so maybe they were made by a number of cultures. It seems that it is not known whether these wheeled pieces were made as children’s toys, ceremonial effigies, or had some ... moreother purpose. Probably ceremonial, possibly burial pieces. This piece is hand-made and has all four wheels. It is in the form of a jaguar. With a long tail, upright ears, a detailed face and an open mouth. The piece appears to have four original wheels, but the axles(sticks) have been replaced since the original wood would long ago have deteriorated. There are traces of red paint on the face. The surfaces show. In addition to some traces of paint, darkening, light encrustation, old wear to the rolling surfaces of the wheels, and an overall aged darkened patina. There are several archeological or collection markings to the underside of the jaguar. As you can see in the photographs. This piece was purchased at a Butterfield and Butterfield auction in San Francisco about 20 years ago and was part of an old collection being sold. I bought it from the purchaser shortly after he obtained it from the auction house. It has been in my own collection since 1994. An image search on google for“precolumbian toy” will bring up quite a bit of information about similar pieces. AGE: Circa 250 AD- 1200 AD. Mayan or Vera Cruz(probably) CONDITION: Good condition. Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices era, which began around 500 BCE. During this time the elements that characterize the pre-Hispanic ... morepeoples of Colima appear, including shaft tombs and a distinctive ceramic style called rojo bruñido, or burnished red. The next phase. Called Comala and centered on a site of the same name, was from around 100 to 600 CE. Comala people perfected burnished red pottery and created representations of people and animals with skill and fluid lines. The best known of these figures are known as the fattened dogs. The Comala site shows influence from Teotihuacan. Around 500 CE, another site in Armería developed along the river of the same name. The Chanal site was active from the 6th to the 15th centuries and was the main culture for the Colima area. Belonging to this culture was a number of smaller sites and most of the ones known and explored to date. After Chanal the largest related site is La Campana but most contain pyramidal bases and plazas with structures often containing rounded edges. Images of Huehueteotl and Tlaloc appear with this culture. Which may indicate the origins of the cultures that ultimately settled central Mexico. There is one other site called Periquillo. A Rare Pre-Columbian Guerrero Stone Maskette, Chontal Type, Late Preclassic,
A Rare Pre-Columbian Guerrero Stone Maskette. Chontal Type, Late Preclassic ca. 300-100 B.C. Closely related to the Mezcala Type. This highly stylized stone maskette with exceptionally glossy surface patina. Dating to the Late Preclassic Period of the Guerrero, Mexico sculptural tradition, ca. 300 to 100 B.C. is of the Chontal style, which is related to the maskettes of Mezcala, and has finely grooved features: the recessed form-lines of the eyes below heavy convex brows meeting the apex of a triangular vertically ridged nose, accentuated by deep grooves on either side of the nose. The left ear is delineated by a vertical groove along the cheekbone. The right ear is now missing. There is an ancient drill hole opening on the top backside of the head created for suspension, which has eroded through the stone once used for attachment. The stone ... morehas a white marble-like quality. A patina with ancient naturally polished surface and a glossier darkened area with inclusions is apparent overall. There is an old inventory number inscribed on the backside: 6631. This is a number from Stendahl Galleries, a 100 year old Los Angeles art gallery, which dates the object to a period of time before 1970. A dark metal stand is included with this piece. FSA:EA Provenance: This maskette was de-acquisitioned from a Private San Diego County Collection formed during the 1960s-1970. It was previously acquired for this collection from a Los Angeles art gallery during the 1960s. This type has descended from the earlier Olmec and Olmecoid maskettes of Guerrero. But the form and details have evolved into more abstract geometrically stylized features very closely related to the Mezcala maskettes. This figure may be viewed by appointment in the Los Angeles or South Orange County area. Our low overhead allows us to offer quality objects at well below market prices. We collect and offer exclusively interesting ancient and tribal objects with the highest art aesthetic available in this price range. Every object is sold with an unconditional gua

Rare Pre Columbian Michoacan Pregnant Figure Very Nice 700-100bc Museum Quality
RH1 It is not an exact science when dating archaeological discoveries but we can come very close in a lot of areas. It is believed by many discoveries Michoacán. Formally Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico has been populated for over 10,000 years! Many pieces like the one offered here from a private collection is believed to be approx. 700-100BC. An internet search and a little historical reading as well as images should bring you to the same conclusion. This piece is in very good condition and displays well as the photo show! This is 100% guaranteed an authentic antique piece and not a reproduction. I am providing each buyer with the original collector history and other information that you can keep for your records. Each piece from this collection has been packed away for over 50 years. Some in dated newspapers and old Kodak film boxes ... morewith expiration dates! The collector worked from the late 1930's to mid 1960's. If your piece was packed in any of these materials they will be included with shipment. This piece has nice original red and white dyes used when made. The right arm has an early detached repair that shows more on the back side but as photos show this piece displays very nicely! It is sometimes hard to tell if the female figures are depicting a pregnancy. It was a common theme during this period. I am leaning to this Lady as having an extended stomach area based on the line below the belly and a few other pieces I have from this collection. Just not quite as extended as the others. This figure can use a little cleaning. Due to the large amount of dyes still retained in this piece I will leave that up to you but again displays very well as an ancient artifact. The female figure is approx. 6 1/4" tall. Wearing a large red and white decorative necklace, Earrings, and red and white Head Dress where the original paint continues around the back. Unusual long hair clearly visible on the back. Photos depict true condition. I will offer free shipping and buyer pays insurance. I will ship items
