A high quality. Particularly vibrant ancient west Mexican Nayarit figure, dating to the proto-Classic period, around 100 BC- 100 AD. Sitting upon a two legged stool. The naked figure stares out into the distance through the hollow slits of her eyes, the mouth held open. She clutches her sides in the pose typical of Nayarit female figures, the gaunt features of the face contrasting with the broad body and exaggerated breasts. Her hair tied up into an elaborate coiffure, she wears three spools in each ear and a thick collar around the neck. This is not only an enchanting piece of pre-Columbian art. It tells the story of Nayarit ritual practices and traditional beliefs. We can see the notion of the earth as the great creator and sustainer of humanity, the fertility of the soil touched by the stool is conflated with the fertility of the woman ... moreseated upon it. This idea of shared fertility between the earth and female members of society is still held in some traditional South/Central American societies, where women alone appear in the fields to carry out the first planting of the season. I bought this Pre Columbian Stone marker from a collector in France in the 1980’s; he claimed acquiring the stone in an expedition to Central America in 1951. This piece is quite large m easuring 15“ x 7“ Approx. This heavy stone is an excellent example of ancient artistry; it is depicting what it looks like a Precolumbian king or warrior seated on a Chair/trone. It has been repair. Were the top of the headdress had to be reattached and have some chips and small piece measing(please see pictures) however the overall look of the stone looks complete. The craftsmanship skills demonstrated on this piece are unmatched. I am a collector with over 20 years of experience in the hobby; I have acquired many interested pieces around the world. The object is beautiful with signs of ceremonial use(interior staining) a crack to the outside including a missing fragment is pictured. It measures approx. 2 1/4" x 1 3/8" larger than most of the other ones and in good enough condition to sell separately. I can't tell if these were broke off of statues or made this way? I have seen so many of them in my research it is hard to say. I'll let you decide. It still has traces of red paint in the headband area and the facial features look pretty good. Thanks for stopping by. We have this authentic Pre Combian dog that has been repaired. Please check the photos) He measures 8 inches high and 8 inches long and 4 inches wide. When this piece was escavated it was in pieces. At that time they put the dog back together and its seems to be almost complete. We don't see anything missing just a few flakes where the piece was put back together. We didn't want to have it restored because than it would appear like new. We like to see the items just as they were discovered. We aquired this item from the late Michael Robbins. He had his gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico. The head measures 3 inches high 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches thick. Its in good condition with a museum mounted stand. This piece is guaranteed to be authentic. Greeting Fellow Kollectors! Up for sale are from my most recent finds! This beautiful antique hand carved Haida wooden mask came from a wonderful estate of a man who was described by his widow as a'an amateur Indian Jones of sorts' He was an early film documentary film maker who travelled and explored all over the world and hence where his extensive collection of interesting and amazing artifacts came from. This amulet was told to me to be Pre-Columbian in origin as the original owner had a vast collection of such artifacts. Collected in the 50's and 60's. It has a wonderful patina and is carved with by a skilled artisan hand. The item looks very ancient and there are no signs of modern tooling. It looks to be Aztec or Mayan in appearance? I'm no expert though: I am not an expert and have no paper work to accompanying ... moreany of the pieces from this collection. But based on the story of the former owner's widow, I believe them to be old. Item Specifics: Ancient Pre-Columbian Mayan Pottery Vase Jar Pot. Chupicuaro Artifact Archeology Late Pre Classical Meso Amercia. Bowl Pre Classic Mexico Relic Burial Aztec Treasure Ceremonial Antique Art Sculpture. Guanajuato 3 Footed Tripod Vessel Horde Late Preclassical Mesoamercian Period. A large and exceptional vessel from Mexico's Chupicuaro Valley. Dating to the Late Pre-Classic Period. Circa 500/800 BC to 100 AD. From a legal 1950s collection, passed down from one family until now. It measures about 9-1/2" tall by about 6-1/2" wide. It came with a very old brittle paper piece(that I taped back together and will include) that identifies this piece in writing saying. Chupicuaro, State of Guanajuato, 100 AD- 500 or 800 BC" Three-footed with black decorations around the top sides. It was made with a slight slant to ... moreit as shown. CONDITION: The feet are strong and secure and this is a sturdy piece of thicker pottery. The paint is not dry or flaking off. The glaze or red painting is still kind of shiny. There's a very old repair. That I've tried to show, made up of two top side pieces(2-1/2" by 3" and 2" by 3" that were glued/cemented back together at one time(probably shortly after excavation) At the bottom of this repair is a hairline side crack of 3-3/4" The top shoulders have a 1-1/2" 2-1/4" and 3-1/2" hairline crack at the shoulder. The black colored designs and surface show loss with rubbing and tiny chips that's expected with age. This vessel has been kept very well over the centuries and years and will display nicely.
