It was in Geneva ... moreIllinois. In a sandstone building that was built before the Civil War. The sale was the final liquidation of an antique store(they‘d had one previous auction- so much stuff, they had to have two) that used to operate out of this location- but the building has been closed, as well as the business, for over 20 years following the passing of the previous owners. Now, we’re talking two stories, an attic and a basement PACKED with antiques- it’s hard to imagine, and all of it just sitting for two decades. These folks has amassed a huge antique collection- many many items dating back to the early 1800s and before. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be listing my treasures from the sale. I will be listing them for weeks to come. I also have the last of my farm auctions and South Dakota finds listed this week, so there’s something for everyone! I have to tell you- I think that this is one of the most intricately hand carved pediment pieces that I have ever solid. I'm in love with the feet of the bird- I just can't stop looking at them- the carving is incredible. I purchased a whole box full of old carved pediments removed from their original home- some reallyreally stunning pieces. So you'll want to keep checking in the next coulple of weeks. Although this fella has some damage, I just couldn't let that get in the way of how beaitiful he is. Now, I don't know if he came off of a piece of furniture, or was part of an architectural wall piece, but wherever he lived, it was grand for sure. Each hand-carved from a single piece of solid mahogany wood. Both pieces originally came from a wardrobe door and are in very good and undamaged condition. The central motif on the square panel is a Green Man’s face surrounded by a symmetrical design showing strong hints of Art-Noveau design in the tulips and flowing lines. The ornamental crest depicts scrolls of a late 19 th century style but these were still commonly used up to the 1 st World War period. The cresting repeats the tulip motif. This is a lovely pediment. Pictured hanging right on my wall. Excellent vintage condition. Made from a lightweight wood- perhaps a fruitwood? Natural wood; a golden brown color. Purchased in historic Virginia Nevada antique shop about 20 years back. Approximately 24" at base. About 8" tall.

This is crest has the late 19th century Aesthetic Movement look. It has the shell arch with small volutes. It has finely detailed shaped molding. It has a sweet button medallion onlay. This week we have this gorgeous Antique/Vintage wall or Window panel. This piece is intricatly hand carved in a leaf and honeycomb motif. It is also hand painted. I am not sure what this originaly was from but there are three pieces of metal(brass. I believe) hardware fittings on the back three corners of the piece. I do not think it was a door but it could have been a fixed piece some how. It is a very heavy piece made out of solid hardwood. I think it may be teak or walnut. This is a wonderful hand carved panel or decorative pediment style piece. I do not know the exact age. But I know it was part of an old English Manor home that was deconstructed. Its' paneling and other"Old English" architectural elements were applied to a home in Kansas City Missouri. This is an extra piece that was not used in the home. It measures approximately 20" in length by about 6 3/4" at its' widest width and is 1" thick. There is a modern hanger attached to the back-as it has been hung for decoration. ANTIQUE HAND CARVED WOOD ARCHITECTURAL FRETWORK -FROM AN ENGLISH MANOR HOME
For your consideration is a marvelous hand carved wooden architectural piece from England. A gentleman in Kansas City Missouri brought over carved panels and fretwork from England(apparently one or more deconstructed Old Manor homes) and applied them to his own unique home. It was like stepping back in history! This particular piece(most likely due to the breakage) was a leftover that was not used in his home. It is approximately 13 3/4" by 8" by 3/4" at the longest widths. It is roughly carved and has a whimsical quality. The wood has been stained dark-almost an ebony. But I could not say for sure if it was truly"ebonized" at any time. I do not know the age, but I do know it is very old. At least 100+ years(minimal) I would guess it much older than that, but I have no way of knowing. This piece looks lovely by itself, ... morebut could be creatively re-purposed! This pediment has some of the most unusual characteristics I have ever seen. The header has a wonderfully carved serpentine top. There are very ornate side carvings, and then those round metal grommets all along the pediment. Looks almost Medieval or Gothic with that Victorian twist. This is a WHOPPER! Circa 1800s. Architectural header. Perfect as a window valance, especially over wood blinds. This is high Victorian quality at its best. It has side columns at each end with Eastlake inscribed triangles at the bottom, parallel vertical grooves above, then beveled cornice trim with arch on top. All along the bottom is bull nose trim with more Eastlake inscribed carving near each end. Further up is sawtooth trim of real burled walnut. Beveled cornice trim directly above that. Near MINT condition! Authentic. 19th century, furniture header. Solid oak construction. Nice carving at each end with 3 turned spindles closer to middle. Above each spindle is a cannonball finial. Even further toward the middle are double half spindles. The center has a diamond shaped, acanthus medallion with a dramatic, beveled arch above. It also has dramatic depth, at about 4 inches. Top finials will be removed for safer shipping. There are 2 VERY minor condition issues. 2 finials have, on their back facing sides, tiny chips near tips. Then there is a slight raise in the bottom edge, not caused by damage, but by a knot underneath. I guarantee you will not find an equivalent piece in any better condition than this BEAUTY!
