It measures 31" long X 7" tall(center) and is about 2" high. It was carved from a single piece of wood. Very Art Nouveau in style with swirling achanthus leaves and a flowing ribbon at the center. The provenance has been lost on this piece as it was in a collection that was liquidated. On the back are two brackets used to attach. The piece is covered in gesso and finished with gold gilding. Antique Victorian 16.5" English Wooden Shell Motif Pediment Walnut / Mahogany
This is an Antique/ Vintage 16 1/2" Wooden Shell Motif Pediment. The pediment was purchase in England. We assume it was probably made there. But we do not know for sure, nor do we know specifically what its age is, but appears to us to likely be 19th Century Victorian era piece. The pediment definitely appears to be hardwood. The appearance of the grain strongly suggests the wood in probably walnut but it could possibly be mahogany or other hardwood. The pediment a great looking piece with a graceful. The pediment is built up from three layers of wood as ... moreseen in the photo of the top. The pad on top is 3/8" tall with a 7/8" deep x 7/8" diameter hole where the peg for a finial was inserted. As found. The finial was no longer present and the pediment is offered as found in that regard. The two pins on the bottom are 3/4" long x 3/4" in diameter. The pins are on 11 1/4" centers. The pediment is a very solid. Substantial piece and it weighs about three pounds. Condition The pediment is in excellent condition with beautiful. Uniform finish, and no chips or other damage. The only, very, very minor issue I noticed is a couple of tiny circular white paint droplets on the back as seen on the photo of the back. For your Early American Eagle collection or architectural restoration project we have a Pair of Two Wooden Eagle Pediments Antique Architectural Federal Era Birds that are Hand Carved in the early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry ... morescraped to remove the paint. They have age cracks to the wood, including one that goes straight through the neck of one bird, yet have retained their aesthetic historic value and decorative appeal. The wood these are carved from is a very dense, hard wood. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. 80 Antique Victorian Door Window Plinth Bullseye Rosette Salvaged Wood Wooden
Please read all contents of this auction before you place a bid! Up for auction: We used salvaged heart pine wood and floors from a hundred + year old farm house and cotton mill in Franklin County. North Carolina. We needed to replace a large number of rosettes during the restoration of our ca. 1890 Victorian Gothic home(over half of the original rosettes to our home had been removed in a 1952 renovation) Unfortunately. The milling company used the wrong blade/pattern when cutting the replacement rosettes for our home. Though we tried to resolve the problem by re-milling these rosettes, using the other side- in the end, we decided to start from scratch. Therefore. We are selling all the rosettes to barely offset what we've already spent towards this endeavor. You can choose which side you'd like to use them for in your project(s) ... moreBefore you assume that this is pricey for this lot. Keep in mind that these blocks were hand cut precisely for the rosette size we needed, not to mention we drove well over an hour to drop off and retrieve them from the milling company who did the work for us. The blades were custom cut but in the end, did not meet the specifications that we had requested. This is a great deal for the individual who appreciates the authentic materials needed for preservation and truly understands the difference in restoration and renovation! There are a total of 80 rosettes. 19 cut on one side. 61 are cut on both sides. These rosettes measure approximately 5" x 5" x 1 1/8" each. This is 100 plus year old heart pine salvaged wood that has been cut and used to match period ca. 1890 rosettes in our home. This group is the leftover from our Victorian home restoration project. While newly and professionally carved. This is 100 plus year old salvaged heart pine wood. This is not new wood! Rosettes weight about 60 pounds total.
