This 21” tall x 53” wide x 2 ½” deep overall; 20” x 48” wood alone) deeply carved openwork topper is all hand carved wood with deep red bole ground and worn genuine gold leaf. The wood appears to be a continental walnut(or similar) and retains the original blacksmith wrought iron backing framework that has enabled it to retain its integrity for almost 300 years. Here for your consideration is a custom vintage wood topper pediment piece. This was acquired from an antique furniture refinishing business that has retired in my area. This was a custom piece they had made and it was never used. It measures 52"long and is 4.5" tall at the widest point. It is missing the floral carving on one end. WALNUT CREST Antique Architectural Wood Carving Furniture Pediment Piece Topper This is a spectacular wood crest. It is solid Walnut. It is off of a piece of Victorian furniture. Today these elements are used all around the home. over doorways or hung on a wall. Condition is very good. Original patina. No cracks. This is one small piece missing on the left overlay. There is a miniscule amount of paint smudge on the top. It will easily blot off with denatured alcohol. There are two(not-original screw) holes on the top from it being mounted over a doorway. This beautiful piece measures 47 3/4" wide. It is 4 15/16" tall at the tallest center point. It is 1 1/2" deep at the top. The bottom rim is only 7/8" deep(where it attached originally. Antique Architectural Salvage Pediment Hand Carved and Inlaid Floral Design
Description: Here is a gorgeous pediment that came from the estate of a well-to-do Hartford CT woman who loved to collect beautiful items. This item came from an upstairs storage closet with other antiques and architectural elements that the woman had bought in 1983 when she was planning on building a summer house on Long Island Sound. The invoice showed that she paid $450 for it over 30 years ago. Supposedly it had been carved and inlaid by a well known Connecticut carver but her niece could not remember who for sure. It appears to be carved from two layers of solid mahogany and then two pieces at either end appear to have been nicely inlaid with boxwood in a floral pattern. The carvings are deep and wonderfully done and you can even still see the chisel marks on the top edge which would not have been seen. There are all the usual marks. ... moreNicks and stuff you would expect to see on a piece of this age as well as a nibble from each end of the bottom. The color and glow of the patina is just first rate as you can tell from looking at my photos. This is a superb 19thc oak wood pediment with a large floral roundel centrally carved. The attention to carved detail on this pediment is beautiful. All carving in relief. The roundel has smaller flowers carved around the central rose. The roundel is flanked by further ornate carved detail. Measures 8" max height x 45" overall length.
