Here is a great antique book for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. Great old book dealing with the Acts Passed by the Second Congress in 1891. The Congress was still meeting in Philadelphia. PA. The book also says, The Sixteenth" on the title page. What makes this book even more interesting was that it was at one time owned by John M. Clayton whom served as a DE Senator to the US Senate 3 different times between 1829 thru 1856. I was able to pick up a number of the Senator's books that were once in his collection ... moreat some time in the past. Some of those books going back to 1640. I will note the listing numbers for some of those other books are they are made available for sale separately in our store. This book does not have John M. Clayton's mark in it that some of the others do. It does have. John M Claytons bot at the sale of G T Fisher" The book is still bound together well. It says. Laws of the United States" on the spine. The cover certainly shows some finish loss. The pages have some foxing/brown spotting and minor watermarks in places. The book actually smells like tobacco. The pages are all intact. I only see one of the blank ones in the back of the book that has a 1" by 1" piece torn off of the bottom of it. The book was printed by Francis Childs and John Swaine of Philadelphia, PA. I see no markings in any of the margins throughout the book. The only other writing in the book besides the John M Clayton notation is on the page just inside the front cover and says, Page 53 Act Relative to the Election of President" The book is 8.25" tall. By 5-1/8" across, by 1" wide. The book is 291 pages long followed by an Index.Let us know if you h

Offered for sale is this antique book titled. HISTORY OF THE NAVY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA by J. Fenimore Cooper in poor overall condition. It was published by H. E. Phinney out of Cooperstown in 1846 and is the Third Edition of this publication. It has an 1839 Copyright page date. The book is well illustrated with engravings and maps although the book does have heavy foxing and staining from age. It is missing the first 14 pages and the title page is loose although still there. I believe the frontispiece of volume one is also missing. The hinges on both covers are splitting but still hanging on by a couple of threads. The hard covers have wear and scuffing from time giving the book a great"old" look! Part of the leather covering is missing at the bottom of the spine as the pictures show. This edition contains both volume ... more1& 2 and has 2 title pages. Volume one has 276 pages while volume 2 has 248 pages. The volume 2 section appears to be complete. Aside from the loose title page and missing 14 pages in volume one, the rest of the pages appear to be there and still tight to the binding.
