This diary measures about 3” x 5” and every page of the year is filled out with the happenings of its owner. Usually each page begins with the weather ... morefor the day and then goes on to what occurred in the life of its owner. On the outside of the book it reads: Excelsior Diary in gold. The one edge is worn away in one spot and the binding has worn areas but it is still in tact. The beginning page has an ornate picture of two angels and the year. The first portion looks like an almanac of sorts with a calendar for upcoming years. Eclipses, weekly wage charts, foreign coin value chart, etc. The middle section of the book has a section for every day of the year which is handwritten by the owner with his comments for each day. The end of the book covers the person’s wages and budget as well as a register of correspondence. There is also a small tube of fabric that must have held a pen or pencil at one time but is no longer there. This is such an interesting part of history for the year 1889. Shipping charges include INSURANCE and are for Continental US only; other fees may apply for other locales.

Antique Diary VT 1884 Full Old Vermont Franklin County VT Diary Antique Vermont
Here's a great read for folks interested in 19th Century Vermont country life.particularly in the Franklin County. Vermont area. It's a diary full of entries for the year 1884. Curiously, in the thrifty Yankee way, the keeper used the lower portions of many pages to make entries for the same dates in 1885.the following year. While we cannot be certain it appears this book may have been compiled by a"C.S. Jemison" as that name forms a heading on the entry for January 1st. It seems the diary comes from somewhere in or near Franklin County, Vermont. Towns mentioned include St. Albans, Swanton, Highgate, Berkshire, and others. Entries center on country life, family comings and goings, tasks of the day, and the weather. While the text is in good shape with a tight binding there is some toning. Fortunately the entiries are in ... morepencil so you don't have that familiar ink fading. At some point the cranberry leather covers have been nibbled on causing some loss. The gilt trim remains bright. There is a slot for a pencil and a pocket inside at the back. Luckily that nibbler did not get through to the entries themselves. So there you have it. Curious about the good sleighing days of 1884 in northern Vermont you can find the answers here. Please ask any questions which come to mind, and note the diary measures 4.5 by 7 inches. Antique Handwritten Diary of Civil War Colonel - Coded Masonic Memory Jogger
I'm going to start out by saying this is a lengthy item to describe and do it justice so please bear with me. I believe this handwritten diary to be a very rare find. It was originally owned by a Civil War Colonel named Colonel John B Yates. It is written in a coded language and I have done a lot of research to determine what exactly this is. With the help of several professors we have determined it is a Masonic Memory Jogger. The Masons used many rituals and were expected to memorize them without having them written down where just anyone could see. By using the book"Illustrations of Masonry" by William Morgan 1827 I have been able to decipher bits and pieces of what this says. There is still a lot to be deciphered which I will leave to the curious mind who owns this gem after me. Colonel Yates served in Company A. Michigan ... moreEngineers and Mechanics. That regiment worked repairing bridges and railroads, building blockhouses and fortifications, having skirmishes with the enemy and taking part in the engagements of Bowling Green, Perryville, Stones River and on the march with Sherman's army, 1861-1865. Colonel Yates was from Albion, Michigan. One of his business cards was tucked in a pocket of the diary and there is a photo of this. Also tucked in a pocket was an invitation to a"Washington Ball" at the Union House, in Delhi Friday evening, Feb. 20, 1863 at 4 o'clock. I have a copy of Col. Yates death notice stating his birth date of Oct. 18, 1833, and his record of service during the Civil War. This was written by William T Sherman himself. A quote reads"Its journal of operation during the campaign in Georgia and the Carolinas would illustrate the absolute limit of man for physical labor. I have sometimes reproached myself for cruelty in imposing or allowing to be imposed, on it such hard and constant labor, and now desire to indorse the paper with an emphasis that will show that I was conscious of the fact. I will be much pleased if Col. Yates can be suitably rewarded for his pa

Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider, Victorian Life
Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider. Victorian Life Description. Offered here is the 1907 diary of a young lady from Ithaca. N.Y. I haven't read the whole diary. But did peek in enough to get the gist of her story. The author wrote a half to a full-page daily. Her handwriting very easy to read. At this point. We believe she was Ella Rider. I have 14 more of what may be this woman's diaries up through 1961. Only the 1907 diary is being auctioned here, but if you're interested in the lot, let me know and I can place the rest of them on eBay as a bulk buy. I also have 16 other vintage diaries that apparenlty belonged to Ella's sister Hazel Rider Daly. I will be offering these singly or as a lot soon. Let me know if you have a preference on how they're sold. Hazel was originally from Ithaca but ... morelater moved to Cortland. Hazel's diaries run from 1913 thru 1959. At this point I'm confused over who wrote some of the diaries in these two lots. We know which 16 are definitely Hazel's because she signed them. The others are unsigned and could be either sister. Though there are two 1913s and two 1932s. indicating at least two writers for those years. But back to what we're going to call Ella's 1907 diary. While in Ithaca she worked in a store. And probably lived with her parents. She had a large circle of girlfriends. And male friends appear fairly regularly to walk her home. A particular fellow"stayed until nearly one. Then he said he wouldn't go until I had kissed him goodnight. So I did(not) Ella is active in several churches. Their choirs and youth groups, and she and her girlfriends attend several times per week. She especially enjoys having girlfriends spend the night. Or spending nights at their homes, and writes of being very disappointed when they don't always accept her invitations. She sews. Including working on a long kimono, and occasionally goes to a sewing bee. She notes riding her bicycle a few times, listening to the Graphaphone

ANTIQUE NEW HAMPSHIRE NEW ENGLAND CHILD’S DIARY 1865 -1866 – SHAKER?
This charming antique diary is still quite readable and presents an honest child’s voice. Although the face page starts: Miss Jennie’s diary for 1866. 1866 starts midway through the book. Names mentioned include Mrs. Fish. Miss Landon, Mr. Russels, etc. Places mentioned include frequent trips to Keene and at least one trip to Marlow( Some of the charming entries include: Tues. January 13(1865 I presume as it is in the first part of the book) Went down to Keene and into the school. When we was coming home we met two young gentlemen in a sleigh and one of them looked around and throwed us kisses. On Friday. Jan 29 th she notes“I braided two hats and trimmed a bunch of leaf. A new farm pedlar sells leaf for 9 pence a pound. This is where I wondered if there was any Shaker influence or connection. I really have no idea. Just wondered. There are ... morefrequent references to braiding leaf and the exceptionally cold New Hampshire winters. One entry mentions how it was storming hard and was quite cold. While making her bed. Her fingers“felt numb through. Another entry of Feb.17, 1865) notes: It’s very cold and we are all huddled around the stove. I guess we shall keep it warm. There is also a small pencil sketch of a tree and there is a small pressed flower left exactly as I found it within the pages. Jennie’s voice is clear and wonderfully fresh– days she is“not sure what to do with myself. days when she is disappointed“went to Mr. Russel’s but found them butchering. Wish I had stayed home. She mentions music lessons, her growing boredom with braiding hats when she’d rather be doing something else, etc. About half of the book is used and all entries are in pencil. She skips around a bit so there are more winter entries than summer, but they also include poetry, musings, etc. Leather remains in good condition with a nice, well-pocketed patina. A rarely found, readable glimpse into New England history. Size is a diminutive 3” tall by 2” wide. Free shipping and insurance in lower 48. Payment by paypal ple

Antique 1900 Handwritten Journal DIARY Full Bloomsburg University G.E. Elwell PA
Elwell family that has building on campus of Bloomsburg University named after* This is an antique handwritten diary from 1900. It was G. Edward Elwell from Bloomsburg. Pennsylvania. Lists Geo. E. Elwell as person to contact in case of accident or serious illness. Sounds like he was a child of maybe 10 or 11. Listed as 4' 11" and 74 lbs. Diary has an entry for every day in 1900. Also includes memoranda with recipes, list of Christmas presents and other info. It lists Christmas presents from 1899, so I am guessing this may have been a present as well. Also has cash account info with cash on hand and monies spent on various items such as soda water, fudge, hot soda, postage, etc. Upon some research I think this may be the diary of the youngest of the Elwell family in which Bloomsburg University has a building(Elwell Hall) named after. ... moreOn the Bloomsburg University page I found this: Elwell Residence Hall. Completed in 1968, is a nine-story facility that houses 700 men and women. The 149,578-square-foot building is named for three generations of the Elwell family, the younger two of whom graduated from Bloomsburg and later returned to teach. Judge William Elwell served as trustee from 1868 to 1887 and president of the governing board for several years. His son, George E. Elwell, was one of the first graduates of the institution and succeeded his father on the Council of Trustees in 1887, continuing until 1906. George's son, G. Edward Elwell, taught foreign languages at Bloomsburg" Is this the youngest Elwell's diary from 1900? One entry is as follows: Monday April 2. 1900. 50 degrees weather: C. Cl, R(there is a list in the back in the memoranda of weather abbreviations) Got up at 8:30. Went up street. Came home and mixed juice for water ice. S. came. Went up town. Played ball. Made fudge. Played chess. Went to ice plant. S came. Miss Wallace spent the afternoon. Mamma went to Uncle Charlie's funeral. Studied all evening. I believe it is leather bound. it measures approx. 4 7/8" x 3 1/8
ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60 & DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE
| | ANTIQUE HAND WRITTEN GEN. STORE LEDGER 1859-60& DIARY HENDERSON COUNTY KY. RARE, THIS OLD I ASSUME GENERAL STORE LEDGER SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CONTROLLED& WRITTEN BY THE PRIEST FAMILY IN HENDERSON COUNTY KENTUCKY. IT HAS AN ALPHABETIC INDEX IN FRONT WITH HAND WRITTEN NAMES OF ACCOUNTS MANY MANY. PERHAPS MISSING THE D& E SECTION HOWEVER NOT TO WORRY ALL OF THE ACTUAL ENTRIES FOR PERSONS ARE STILL INTACT. I BELIEVE THE STORE LEDGER WAS FROM 1859& 1860 AND DATED ON MOST PAGES AS SUCH. THEN AROUND 1911 FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST STARTED USING LITTLE USED OR UNUSED PAGES AS A DIARY PROBABLY INTO 1924 ABSOLUTELY LOADED WITH DAILY INFO AND INSIGHT TO THE TIME AND PLACE WHO WAS THERE AND WHAT THEY DID. WEDDINGS, HOUSE BURNING, CHURCHES, HORSES BORN, LAW BREAKING, DEATHS YOU NAME IT. I THINK MAYBE WILLIAM PRIEST WAS THE PROPRIETER IN 1859-60 ... moreALSO NAMES WRITTEN IN BOOK ARE J.E. PRIEST, PAM PRIEST, FRANCIS WILLIAM PRIEST WHO KEPT AND USED THE BOOK. MORE PRIEST NAMES AND MANY OTHERS OF COURSE INSIDE. PROBABLY SOME OF THE MEN WENT OFF TO THE CIVIL WAR THE YEAR AFTER 1860 WHICH MAY EXPLAIN IT STOPPING THEN. ONE WOULD HAVE TO RESEARCH THE NAMES. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANCESTRY IN THIS AREA DURING THESE YEARS I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BIDDING ON THIS IT IS 1 OF A KIND FOR SURE. IT IS HUGE ABOUT 16 X 10 X 2 1/2 AND WEIGHS IN AT 8 LBS 12 OZS. I WILL SHIP IT MEDIA MAIL AT ACTUAL COST TO SHIP. THIS IS A TREASURE FOR SURE. Antique 1861- 64 Autograph School Signature Remembrance Book Diary
Antique. Leather Bound, Gold Embossed Covers and Spine. Antique 1861 through 1864 Autograph School Signature Remembrance Book Diary. This book was dedicated to Mary Floyd Glass in 1861 when she was a student at The Atlanta Institute for Women. There are 16 pages with handwritten dedications, remembrances, or poems. The book includes 6 steel engravings of lovely young women. There are 3 drawing which I assume were done by the owner, Mary Glass. There is also a letter consisting of 2 handwritten pages. In this letter Mary mentions the fact that all books come from the North, and indicates that"The South should arouse themselves, throw off the burning stigma and the South must and will triumph. This was the only reference that would indicate the Civil War was taking place. In Atlanta on December 20, 1864 Mary was married, and her Sister ... morewrote a dedication poem in the book. Apparently Mary and her book survived the Battle and Burning of Atlanta. The book measures, 8" by 9-3/4" If interested and have any questions, please ask prior to bidding. Thanks for viewing my listing.

Antique 1896 HAND WRITTEN DIARY JOURNAL ALLISON Family Muskingum County Ohio
Hello and Welcome to Our Auction. You are looking at an antique hand written diary or journal. It is from 1896. The covers are black and it has a fold over closure. There is a pocket in the back for receipts. Etc. It was written by a woman from the Allison family from Muskingum County Ohio. We purchased this with other family diaries at their estate sale in November. It doesn't have the name of the writer in the Journal, but she speaks of other family members. The hand is similar to the diaries we have listed by Sade Allison, but some of the penmanship it different. This one is 20+ years older than the other one, so her hand could have changed a little over time, or it is by another member of that family. I didn't read the entire thing, but browsed through some entries. She writes of daily chores, knitting, sewing, what the weather ... morewas like, what Mary made for dinner, selling butter, livestock, people that visit, going to church, reading, writing, travels to nearby towns to get and or sell supplies. It measures 6" x 4" There are 50 leaves, 100 pages if you count the front and back. All of the pages are filled, the last few pages are a ledger. The cover has some wear. Mainly along the spine. The pages are discolored from age. The piece of paper in the front is a receipt for coal. In overall good condition for its age. We have other hand written diaries up for auction this week as well. They are all from the same family. Thanks for looking. And feel welcome to check out our other auctions for more great items. We combine shipping costs on multiple wins to save you money: We accept Paypal& Other methods upon approved pick up. We combine shipping whenever possible. Please read our rules before bidding. Please remember to ask questions before buying. We can not be held liable for lost or damaged items by third party carriers. International Buyers. Antique San Antonio High School 1917 Senior Memory Book Amazing Diary Photos WWI
This is an unbelievable memory book from a senior at San Antonio High School dated 1917. This girl kept everything from her senior year and the book is filled almost every page with something. Dance cards. Calling cards, invitations, photos, autographs, etc. Some autographs are from schoolmates going to WWI front lines. A couple of the dance cards still have their pencil attached that is used to mark on the cards. Tons of photos from her classmates and teachers. Programs from plays, newspaper articles(including a full page of her graduating class) I've tried to find this girls' relatives but have been unsuccessful because this is such a treasure trove of mementoes. I've never seen anything else like it. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own such a personal and complete memory book. The book is titled"The Girl Graduate" ... moreHer Own Book" It belonged to Isabel Wefing who graduated from the San Antonio High School in 1917. One page is partially loose but I believe that is the only one that is loose. The book is in great condition considering its age. Some pages are a bid frayed on the edges from being handled. Please ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. I have a large collection of antique photo albums and will be putting them on eBay as I have time. Check them out because I will combine shipping for multiple purchases. Also. Shipping charges include tracking and insurance so bid with confidence.
